David Best interviews Davie Herd about his first book - "1872: Stories of Rangers players of yesteryear" - a great insight into some notable Rangers you will have heard stories about but others that might well be new to you who made their mark elsewhere.

Davie talks about:

- his background and growing up as a Rangers supporter

- his motivation for the book and his experiences of writing it

- the amazing stories and reach of Rangers players from the past

- his plans for his next book

David Herd

My thanks to David for making the interview as easy and relaxed. I hope any Rangers fan who reads the book finds it worthwhile and interesting.

Got one ordered now! Good listening. Looking forward to story of 77/78. Cheers

Book arriving today in time for a week in The Canaries. I assume not in the book but I done a bit of research on a local ex keeper called Archie Montgomery who played briefly in the mid 1890’s but then went on to be the first managers of Bury & Albion Rovers.

Great to have you back David, another excellent listen. 👏

William Fletcher

This book is so interesting. full of amazing facts. Throughly recommended.

Hi David, yet again a Hugely interesting pod. As said by Davie himself, most of the book has information about Rangers players we know little about.

Alan Bradley

Brilliant interview, looking forward to reading this one. League Cup book should be a cracker too. Welcome back David, hope you’re feeling much better pal.

Alex Downie

Just listening to this fantastic listen, will be treating myself to the book.

Great listening. With regard to Rangers books, a player mentioned in the conversation - Jimmy Caskie.I had only heard of him because my Gran stated he was her favourite player. There is a book available about him, digital only.Has anyone read it, is it worth reading?

Great chat. Well done, the 2 Davids. I already have 1872 so now I'll read it with even greater interest, having heard the background to it. David, you really must write those 2 books: the 1978 Treble one and Gers League Cups. The latter is needed to counteract David Potter's recent one on 75 League Cups. PS David ( Best) glad you have recovered from Covid. When are you inviting me on your show to discuss my 5 Gers books? Would love to follow David here.

Greg

I am currently reading Davie's book right now and I cannot reccomend it enough! A great read and also really enjoyed listening to this as well.

David Herd

Just read the summary of David Potter's book. "Rangers hold the record for Scottish League Cup wins, but Celtic's victories have been more spectacular, not least their astonishing 7-1 triumph in the 1957 final." I now definitely need to put the record straight!

Mark Henderson

Look forward to reading your next books David, all the best with them

Bob MacCallum

David, Potter's book is so biased towards Celtic that I've written a letter of complaint to him via his publisher. It was so anti-Gers that, half-way through reading it, I looked him up on the internet to discover, lo and behold, he's written many books about Celtic players(ancient and modern) as well as successful eras in Celtic's history. On the 2019 Old Firm final he described that game as " tight". Lol.

David Best

Raymond can you send me the link and I will try to read and feature it

David Best

Thanks Bob will pop you an email tomorrow and would love to chat! Can’t match Alan’s quality of interviewing though

David Gilhooly

Hi David, this is just a thought. How many of the books that you have featured on your podcast are available in Audio format? Its not many if any at all. I wonder if there is anything we can do as a community to change this?

David Herd

Mine is certainly only available in paperback David, the publisher I went with explained that their margin on books like this couldn't justify other formats. I was asked by a friend about it as he wanted to get a book for someone who has a sight disability.

Raymond Paxton

Sorry, the internet is beyond the capacity of my old mind.I would have no idea how to post a link...the book is called " Possilpark to Ibrox" ...by Donald Caskie, no relation.I don't know if it was ever released in print, digital only.

Martin Davies

Always enjoy a @DH1963 post on FF. I'll be ordering the book later tonight.
