Hoggy is back with David Marshall, and as promised, is focusing on one topic in this international week...... the Rebuild!

7 players are out of contract in June 2022, 8 more players in June 2023.  Who stays, who goes this summer, what does it mean in terms of rebuild requirements?  And, what do you think will happen?

Also, Hoggy talks to serving soldier Martin Johnman who, as we updated on the Daily Update on Thursday, is walking 210 miles from York Minster to Ibrox Stadium for the Rangers Supporters Erskine Appeal.

Would keep Jack in spite of his injury record. We’re a different team with him in it. Significantly more important than a Helander or Balogun at the back

Really enjoyed this chat! I think if Ross Wilson and Gio believe that guys like Leon King, Lewis Mayo, Alex Lowry etc have a genuine chance of becoming first team starters for us in the future then they have to ensure that they are getting regular minutes from next season onwards. Huge summer ahead of us that’s for sure.

Scott McKenzie

£10 for you Martin. Thanks for doing this & thanks for your service 🇬🇧

Great show Hoggy and David. I think there are discussions to be had with some players who weren't mentioned. Nicola Katic - does he have a future at Rangers? Jack Simpson, Scott Wright, Cedric Itten - aren't good enough and should be moved on. Borna Barisic - is this the last opportunity to get something for Borna? Bassey is clearly first choice left back now. Kemar Roofe - is he too injury prone to ever be a key player for us? Glen Kamara - when do we cash in? I think he might be one to attract attention from the EPL in the summer. You mentioned the risk of carrying too many injury prone players. I think we also need to think about how many 30yo+ players we have in the squad. The average age needs reduced and rather than hand out contracts to guys already in their 30s, I'd prefer to see us sign guys 17-23 year old and let those guys feature in 10-20 games to develop them. Personally, I think we thank McGregor for his service and get a new no1 (not McLaughlin). I'd love Goldson to stay, but I would move on both Balogun and Helander. King should be our 4th choice centre back. And also move on Barisic, and sign Bassey on a longer deal. For me, its Davis OR Arfield, not both or we stifle the development of Lowry and McCann. Jack I'd keep - like Tav, I think he ends his career at Ibrox, and the fact he's Scottish helps for our Euro squads. Aribo, Kent and Morelos sign extensions or we sell.

One aspect of this that I hadn't really thought about until now The summer will be Gio's first real chance to bring in players - so there might potentially be tactical ins and outs over and above the usual financial and performance considerations It's really hard to say at the moment how much Gio has been playing to suit what he has available against how he really wants to be playing and the summer might make that a lot more clear

Great opportunity for Gio to get his team in the summer. I'd be more than happy for Lowry to replace Joe. The quality of opposition will not be an issue for Lowry. Onwards and upwards.

Gary Shaw

Lowry HAS to be kept…this boy is special…I would be trying to keep Kent and Morelos but would take the money for Aribo in a heartbeat,Aribo for me gets away with murder from our support, flat track bully that never shows up in big games….Arfield, I would give a 1yr deal as I think he offers a lot around the Club aswell as being a good impact sub.

I think the fact the club have allowed us to be in this situation is an issue. The last 2 windows haven't been great in terms of long term upgrades to the first team. I think Wilson has this summer to fix it or he and the board will be getting asked serious questions, especially afterw the fanfare last summer when we were told that we were going to spend to improve etc

Martin Boyd

I would only keep 1 out of the out of contract players , add McCann and Lowry to squad. As for the ones out of contract in 12 months , Helander to go and any of the others who will not sign an extension. Big rebuild I know but the team needs it.

chris smith

Get the boy Papac re-signed … on the current squad rebuild we have to work from a new set of principles 1/ stop signing players with histories of injuries because they are a bit cheaper but need to be managed 2/ promote youth where possible rather than buying Bosman jobbers 3/ spine, spine, spine … our best players should be goalie, centre half, No.10 and centre forward. The rest of the team is a delivery system to ensure that 9/10 do their jobs

I don't know what scares me more, the inevitable summer rebuild or a similar recruitment policy of the last 3 windows. I expect we'll see a massive turnover in players this summer as even ignoring those out of contract etc, we have 5 that haven't been mentioned who will probably be surplus to requirements, namely; Itten, BB, Roofe, Simpson and Wright. I'm hoping Jack is now over his calf problem and is the one I'd be looking to keep, but I agree, we have far too many injury prone players currently on our books. Central defence needs a refresh imo and has done for some time. I think we may also lose Kamara if a decent bid comes in and it would probably be the right time to sell him. McLaughlin,McCrorie and new GK Tav/Zukowski Souter,King and 2 new centre backs(Starters) Bassey and new LB Jack,Lundstram,Sands,Lowry,McCann,Kamara? and 2-3 quality additions in midfield. Sakala,Hagi and at least 4 new additions. I can't help but feel the whole situation could've been handled far better but who knows what's been going on behind the scenes. Whatever happens, our recruitment must be far better than it has been recently.

Thanks Hoggy. Great show. Done well against David's best impression of Keith Bishop from the office. 😄

Tommy

Good listen lads. Although I feel the tone was needlessly negative when discussing our situation. Trust the process! Players like Davis will reach the end of their time with us, to be replaced by players we’ve scouted and signed for a small fee like Sands. We’ll cash in on big money offers for Aribo to be replaced by a youth prospect like Lowry. Finally! After 40 years of mismanagement we finally have a clear strategy in place designed to continually develop the squad whilst ensuring we are financially secure. This is all a positive in my book. Some will be uneasy to see us sell players but this must be embraced.

Hoggy

I’ll trust the process dude when the process proves it can be trusted!!

Tommy

I just don’t think we’ve got a choice Hoggy. This is the process we need to follow if we want to thrive as a club and not allow 2012 to happen again. It’ll require people to excel at their jobs and a degree of good fortune but there isn’t really any alternative. Anyone not renewing their contract this summer (and ideally we give them an early date of May 31) has to be sold. I believe there’s sufficient interest in Kent and Aribo to get good money in. Selling both for good money tells me that the system is working, we just need Wilson to absolutely nail recruitment. This is when he needs to deliver.
