Summer 2012 saw a huge turnover of players as Rangers got set for life in Division 3. The opening matches felt surreal and every emotion from elation to embarrassment was felt in the first three! Join David Marshall, David Edgar and Rob Shorthouse as they continue their look back at Ally McCoist's time as Gers boss.

Glad this is back. As weird as that may seem!

Ross Kerr

Finally it’s back 🙈

Maybe this is a question for the end of the show, but in relation to the young players not really being given a chance, were any of them outside of Barry McKay likely to have been any good by the time we got back to the top league? Kal Naismith has had a good career in England and as you said Lewis McCleod would have if not for injuries but from what I can remember no of them stood out in the lower leagues. Maybe just Robbie Crawford

Really enjoying listening to this. Will make my walk to silverburn and back today a lot easier 🙄

Stephen

I am sure the story with Papac retiring early is that he got a serious head injury in a car accident when he was young and the longer he continued playing the more risk there was of him having serious problems because of that. I enjoyed this episode. I had avoided this show as I think I find 2012 more traumatic now than I did at the time!😀

My dad passed away around that east fife game and I was driving up from the ferry to my dads funeral the day before the east fife game and stopped off at ibrox to go to the rangers shop and the queue for the ticket office stretched all the way back to the rangers shop.

Rob Shorthouse

He was terrific for us, Stephen. I was absolutely gutted when he left - he was my favourite player in that great team.

John Smith

Probably get some hate for this but I actually still like Ian Black. Messed up with the gambling but I believe genuinely loved playing for the club

Andy mccrorie

Absolutely loved super papac, solid

That discussion about what might have been over the period in the lower leagues was excellent. There was definitely an opportunity to do something more organic and long-term - feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity lost BUT! Green, Easdales, Somers, Llambias.. at some point they would have just crashed it or sold players for a pittance wouldn’t they? We were just never going to get the space and willing to make a project like that work. It’s a point well put though - Ally McCoist wanted to be a Rangers manager but wasn’t equipped & worldly wise to be the Rangers manager going into the Scottish 3rd Division. The lack of awareness around the Templeton signing was quite staggering on reflection.

Always thought Andy Little got a raw deal from Ally. He was doing a good job but Ally signed Sandaza and preferred him. Could never understand it. Same with John Fleck, he just wouldn’t play him.
