Rangers march towards the SWPL title continued with a historic day at Ibrox. Aberdeen were swept aside as Rangers marked their first outing at the stadium as a professional side in impressive fashion.

Two goals in the first half from Sam Kerr and Kayla McCoy gave Rangers a comfortable lead at half time. Further goals were added in the second half through Lizzie Arnot and Nicola Docherty as Rangers ran out 4-0 winners in front of a crowd of 4412.

A lacklusture start from Rangers meant that chances were at a premium as Aberdeen fought hard to be stubborn and limit opportunities for the home side. But as the game progressed Rangers started to create more and Arnot went close with a half volley just past the post and McCoy should have scored with a header on the six yard line.

The breakthrough would come on the half hour mark and it was Kerr who got the distinction of socring the first professional women’s goal at Ibrox. A lovely through ball by Arnot put in Dembi Vance who drove into the box, she put a delightful low cross into the area and Kerr slid in to score into the empty net.

Rangers’ second came nine minutes later and it was more good work in the wide areas that led to it. Docherty got on the end of a perfect cross field diagonal before putting another low cross into the box. Aberdeen ‘keeper AJ Meach managed to get a hand on it but could only direct it into the direction of McCoy who made no mistake with the finish.

Rangers started the second half in blistering pace and added a third with a superb finish from Docherty. The right back picked the ball up on the corner of the box and sent an unstoppable shot with plenty of movement on the ball into the top corner of the goal.

Rangers dominance was shinning through now and Aberdeen were beginning to tire, both qualities were seen in the fourth goal. McCoy pounced on a slack back pass and cut the ball back to Arnot for Heart and Hand’s own to get herself on the scoresheet.

The result restored Rangers five point lead at the top of the SWPL table, after Glasgow City beat Hearts 2-0 earlier in the day. A win against Motherwell next Sunday will mean that Rangers will only need a draw against City the following week to secure the title. It’s getting very close.

Well done to the women's team. Nic Docherty's goal was a cracker you could see what it meant to her. It's amazing young female fans could also grow up to live their dreams of scoring for Rangers at Ibrox. The teams response to the fans at the end of the game was fab, well done to them spending lots of time for photo opertunities. A really enjoyable day out.
