Rangers Women - SWPL CHAMPIONS! (Patreon)

Rangers are the SWPL champions! The first ever league title was secured in a 0-0 draw at The
Rangers Training Centre with outgoing champions Glasgow City.
The first half belonged to the visitors who came out firing knowing that only three points would
be enough to deny Rangers the title. Jenna Fife was called into action to deny Lauren Davidson
with a shot at her near post which was turned away from a corner.
City then came close after a scramble in the box that Ode Fulutudilu should have scored but the
Rangers defence somehow managed to steer the ball round the post for a corner.
Rangers were mostly restricted to efforts from distance in the first half with Sam Kerr having two
similar efforts hit well but saved from Lee Alexander. The closest Rangers came to opening the
scoring was through Demi Vance who got on the end of a back post cross from Nicola Docherty
but she couldn’t steer her header goalbound.
City had the ball in the net before the break but the linesman’s flag came to Rangers rescue.
Davidson broke down the right wing and drove into the box before cutting the ball back for
Fulutudilu to score, thankfully the flag went up.
Rangers started the second half better with a Vance corner needing to be cleared from under
the feet of Alexander and Kirsten Reilly almost caught the City ‘keeper out with a cross to the
front post.
There was a heart in mouth moment as City came close to a lucky opener when Hayley
Lauder’s cross rattled the bar before being cleared to safety.
A lengthy stop in play then followed as Clare Shine collapsed on the pitch while being
substituted. Thankfully, the City player managed to get back to her feet and walk off the park.
Chances were at a premium in the latter stages of the game as the nerves on both sides were
clearly showing. But it was Rangers who looked the most likely as City had ran their race.
However, the full time whistle went to confirm history was made and Rangers are the
Champions!
