Rangers wrapped up their Division 3 campaign in the same stuttering fashion they'd began it. The performances were often still tough to watch and another shock home defeat put the lid on a sad year. It ended with a title day of sorts but the nagging worries persisted.

Join David, Stuart and Rob as they continue to track Ally McCoist's managerial career.

David talks about wearing his top on off chance that Ally might pick him. Well that actually happened to me! I won the Tennent’s “Be Part of the Squad” competition and got my name listed as one of the subs for the Clyde game. William Reid - number 72 I’ll have to submit it as a Daily Tale and post some of the pics from the day

Lol been there Davie took me 6 years before I proposed to the 2nd missus

Well done lads... What an absolutely horrendous season that was....!!!

Jack

Do you think ally will ever do a full interview speaking candidly on some of the on field decisions around this time or will his ego/public persona in the media mean this will never happen

I was 27 and fit as a fiddle back then, outwith Wallace and Jig I would probably have been just as good as any of the others on the park if Ally decided to throw me on!

I thought it was just my Swiss cheese brain which had forgotten this season but nope it was my brain doing a bit of self preservation, Christ what a nightmare. A bunch of overpaid charlatans baring one or two. Well done for trawling through it and trying to make some sense of Ally’s shitshow.

Got a couple of questions: With us signing players such as Sandaza, Black, Cribari etc. do you believe that this blocked out opportunities for the younger players to get some minutes and developed, or were they always going to struggle if they had been given more of a chance to circumstances and maybe even limited ability? Do you think if we had sign players such as Craig Beattie and Kevin Thomson then we would have played better? The last question is more of a point. Whilst Ally McCoist was never a good manager, during this period However I was glad he was in charge as he was one of the few people at Rangers during that time who had the best interests of the club at heart. If he had went, I genuinely feared who the board would have appointed to replace him.

Thanks again David, Stuart & Rob for all your hard work and endurance trying to exorcise these particular demons of ours!! An absolute belter kit and I'm pretty sure Tennents made some sort of concession and reduced their logo not to spoil the look of the retro pre-sponsor style top. Peterhead, I stayed until the end, not to shout frustration at them but it was almost a form of self-harm, resigned to just how poor we were but brought up in the tradition of stay til the end, no matter what. It's follow follow after all and support is needed more in the bad times than the good. I did try to 'enjoy' the title and the celebration at Ibrox. I think the club were dammed by what they did, be dammed if they didn't celebrate. I agree that too much was made of it and for all the reasons said. But if we 'think the best of' the club/board, we as fans had been through a helluva lot and this was the first trophy / tangible thing we could actually celebrate. Yes it was crap, yes it had been expected since day 1 but remember - only days before the season opener we had what? 5 or 6 registered players? Don't get me wrong I wasn't leaping about partying but I took it in as a positive. Quite frankly I was bricking it that given our season; apathy of team, piss poor results, ever dwindling attendance (despite STs bought), continued rumblings of money problems - that the next division up might not be a walk over and would we actually see a title win? I was seriously worried we couldn't keep the level of 'quality' players and able to attract similar, given the money being splurged. Could we be sustainable paying top dollar for poor performers? There was the real possibility of fans abandoning the club due to the play & circumstances (my early years were in a 1/4 full late 70s/early 80s Ibrox, so I've seen it before!!) so more money woes. Defiance is fine (and in our case understandable & justified) it is routinely an act of resistance, or war - but if those leading the cause can't be arsed, why should anyone join them?? TBH at the start of this season there was the disappearance of regular, long term 'diehard' ST holders around me (maybe just changed seats? maybe did walk away?). It was very, very noticeable and they were replaced by many "cause its cheap now" folk. No offence to any one of them, they paid for a ST, supported the club. But when the players are worse and the ST price is higher for the next season, are they going to renew? Walter would never have allowed the apathy but he was senior in age, the other 4 are peers together, no one senior, manager title or not. A team managed in 'designed by a committee' type thing!! I do agree with all the critical points leveled at Ally. But at the same time I can never answer the question - If not him, who else?

Martin Davies

I was one of the few who stayed on "trophy day", purely because I was there with my son who was 7yo. Cringeworthy to say the least.

Question for next week - Do you think the criticism and pressure Ally came under this season was one of the factors why he ensures we remain unbeaten by any means necessary in league 2? As a demonstration of “look how good I am” so to speak. I’d imagine the criticism would’ve hurt Ally, so would be interested to hear you guys take on it. It’s not until you have a bit of perspective now to try and put the pieces together. We really were living week to week in those days. Cracking show, have been following since the Advocaat years!

What was your biggest WTF moment of the season? For me on field it was the defeat in the challenge cup against QOS on pens absolute binfire of a game. Winning at home chucking a goal in and kicked out on pens. Off field has to be the Elgin raver, remember seeing that and just thinking what are we doing here honestly🤦‍♀️

Andrew

Of all the off the field nonsense - from Charles Green’s Christmas message, Dallas Cowboys, Green going all “It ain’t half hot mum” when talking about Imran Ahmed, Fran Sandaza and the Taxi Driver - what was the most mental thing to happen that season in your view?

Andrew Hind

I had forgotten just how bad things got on and off the pitch, the only good thing was the strip

Can't believe that's one full season gone and I'm still in the back Ally brigade. I was totally blaming the players for Performances. My only criticism was not bloody many youngsters but I think there was maybe some pressure from above to have bigger names there. As for Ian Black I can say when he signed I was delighted as I regularly watched Junior Football and thought he was type of player we needed at that level. Turned out he wasn't much of a hard man!! I celebrated the title (nowhere near as much as others though) as it was my youngests first trophy (my eldest was at Rugby Park) for them it eas a big day!! There was also the fact I never knew if I would actually watch Rangers again so it was part of the journey back

Owen Scott

One question I could probably Google but might be good to chat about. I can't remember. The next season is mentioned that transfer embargo is over but we had brought in Kyle, Black, Sandaza, Templeton etc so how did we do this if there was an embargo? Might just have been one transfer window ban

Green’s Christmas message was something else, not long after the share issue and it was a point of no return for me as far as he was concerned. Insincere and get like he was laughing up his sleeve. Him and his, “little friend” Ahmed and all the headlines that came in April around that… felt that he was signalling impending departure when that all broke.
