I'm with Adam, we're 2nd leg specialists not home game relialists (not a real word, I know)

Stephen

watching Sky post game and the only two questions they showed were from Martyn and David. :)

Thanks for the post-match pod David & Martyn. Set pieces were a problem for us, or more accurately mistakes were made at set pieces. The saying goes 'insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results' - we are not doing the same thing over & over again. It IS a case of do Plan A better. This IS a very decent result, against a very decent team. Its half time, 1 goal & a clean sheet in the next half wins the big prize! We CAN do it but the full point of competition at this level is so can they! Gio / management team have shown they're much better tactically in the second leg of a tie and they've openly said its because they've been able to see more clearly how the opponents play, the style / tactics etc 'in the flesh' during the first tie and can adapt for the second leg.

Ask a positive question boys ffs?!

Thought Sands poor. Noticed PSV didn’t really press him and let him have ball second half and he was poor with it. Davies not fit ? Goldson not great tonight.

Graham Jones

This squad looks like it’s still in pre-season at moments in games. The defending was really poor at the second, whereas the first was just bad luck. We’re still in it, and GvB did seem to be upbeat about it. They do have the advantage now, but we actually have a good record over in Eindhoven as a club. Let’s play that up going over there, and let the management go about thier business in a quiet and efficient manner. We need calmness, and especially experience for this match. We have enough of that in the squad, and this game is set up for Alfie to come back in for. If you put Bassey, Aribo and Morelos in that side tonight, then the physical thing would look very different, but I do think we risk becoming fixated with size here. It would be interesting the look at average heights in squads compared to us. Maybe that’s something the stats boys can get their teeth into.

Thought Sands was decent, Goldson is very poor defending a set piece, for a big guy he really isn’t good in the air either defensively or offensively. When Steven Davis started to tire PSV took control, Wright and Kamara empty jerseys when they came on.

Martin Davies

I'd be interested in Adam's thoughts on zonal marking. You both mentioned the size of the PSV players and perhaps Gio thinks we need a system to defend set plays rather than relying on shorter players winning 1-2-1 battles.

Craig Mitchell

If you hadn't known the score and came straight to the comments here and the Car Pod, you'd have thought that we lost. Maybe it's the expectancy level being raised based upon our European home performances recently, but that, in the cold light of day, this isn't a bad result. Both teams will be content in that they're still in it. I'm giving them all the benefit of the doubt until the last whistle blows over there.

Doug Young

Do systems even matter when your principal centre back ducks when a corner ball comes in? Talk about bigger players but one of our biggest is appalling in the air.

Martyn Ramsay

I asked about what he plans to do about our defensive set up at set pieces as I felt it was a fair question and one that I had seen a lot of fans comment on thoroughout the game.
