Rangers returned to North America in 1976 for the first time in more than two decades, embarking on a five-stop tour beginning in the Pacific Northwest. As the USA geared up for its bicentennial and Gerald Ford was on the campaign trail in Portland, Oregon, Rangers rode into town (literally on the day) to take on the Timbers on 23 May.

In the third episode of the Rangers From Sea to Shining Sea series, Shane Nicholson is joined by longtime friend of the CROpod Gary Havlin and brand new friend Don Cox to talk about the third matchday of the 1976 tour. How did Bruce Rioch's little brother almost not survive?; Was it really Jock Wallace that played peacemaker?; and Does Providence Park still have a feral cat colony? All that and more in this special episode!

You can find a dipshit or 8 in any crowd here, man.

If it's one of my shows you're about 99/100 it's gonna be some section of Young Americans.

Really interesting pod series and the show notes were 👌. Looking forward to hearing more episodes from the series, thanks Shane 👍

Graeme Price

I demand you do a Boston based soccer podcast now that you've mentioned it in the previous one 😜 hey maybe they're less successful than the rest of our great clubs in Massachusetts!

Shane

Our buddy Rab McDougall has been working me on this angle, too. I suppose talking about Fenway Park in 1928 would be okay (tho not 2010).

These are fascinating shows, I think an expansion into other parts of the world Rangers have gone (Far Reach of Rangers?) Is in order. Definitely fueling my history buff side! Can't wait for more.

These really are superb shows Shane, thank you for bringing them to us. It's such a wonderful 'detour' down the club's history path going into the US tour games. It's like seeing something tucked away in a corner of a museum, you have a wee look not expecting much but end up delighted you did as you've discovered a hidden gem of an exhibit. And the show notes just really top it all off, the cherry on top 😊 Wonderful to hear Don sharing how he got hooked on the game, his club and his commitment to both - please pass on thanks to him and to Gary the show historian. Really looking forward to the next episode. Brilliant work Shane 👍👏

The Far Reach of Rangers? 🤔 sounds really interesting, must look that up. 👍 Graeme

Thanks so much, Gaz. I will send your good tidings on.
