Disappointing? No. That would be Alfie, Kent or Kamara leaving. We have the strongest squad since 2003 imo. Board have returned us to the top, to financial balance and we have a great season to look forward to. If we lose tomorrow tho, is there a delete button?? 😉

Graeme Burns

Any truth in the rumour Rangers are wearing another bespoke one-off kit to mark the final league tie vs our old firm foes Dunblane during our 150th anniversary year?

Scott King

Some great points, the communication between the club and fans is really poor, nobody from the club seems to ever want to put their head above the parapet and explain some of the decisions or lack of investment since qualifying for CL, speak to fans like adults instead of creating a vacuum that needs to be filled by gossip and hearsay, we have a comms director who seems to rarely communicate with the most important part of the club

Russ

I agree with letting the handbrake go domestically but hasn't Gio got a mad record that he's only lost against teams in Europe or Celtic? I don't think it's as bad as people make out, probably one or two draws too many in the league aye but he's not inept against the fodder.

Scott Watson

Good discussion all. I think large parts of this pod are what cognitive dissonance sounds like 😃 Martyn's point, that he's been making all week, I think is a vital one. Much as we all love his brand of dour, wrist-slitting realism, Andy McGowan shouldn't be the main voice articulating (his best interpretation of) the case for why we are going down this path

Heart and Hand

I love Andy and I respect his views but you’re exactly right - it’s just his opinion. We need facts.

Gordon Millar

Great discussion gents, I agree on David's point on a new number 8, we will need to replace Steven Davis, a great servant to the club, why not this year?....a lot at stake given a league win nets us a UCL place.

Stephen A

So the CL prices are essentially a 'get it up ya' from the board due to our reaction to Australia? WoW. Can't believe this isn't a bigger talking point. This board really are beginning to lose the faith of the support.

Jack Fletcher

What bothers me is a lack of clarity from the club and Gio at times. I think it is now we are kept in the dark, whilst the club milks the supporters for as much cash as they can get away with. Not a good look at all.

Martin Davies

If we can't spend now, how bad would our finances be had we not got to the EL final, qualified for the CL and sold Bassey for record money???

Martin Davies

Oh, and if they are going to charge absolute top dollar for tickets, any chance of providing toilet facilities that are commensurate with the prices?? Emirates prices with Firhill standard bogs.

Tamus

So Gerrard didn't beat malmo and as a result didn't get cash to spend, however Gio beat PSV and as a result, didn't get cash to spend. Horrific sh1t show from the BOD. Mega dosh in from Gerrard and Co (£6M), Aribo (£10M), Bassey (£18M), Patterson (£12M), Gilmour (£1.4M)- Europa campaign(£30M), UCL Qualification (£40M), 2 full house Qualifiers (£7M?), strips loads of them, with a dozen feckin sponsors on each one. £500 tiffossi share issues etc etc etc

Steve Clark

Great pod lads,a really good and interesting discussion

Steven Campbell

I've never heard so much pessimism in the one pod. Can you not believe the manager when he said there was nobody he knew that would have strengthened the team. Yeah there would have been hundreds but they wouldn't have been the ones we had been keeping an eye on and had some info about them.

Grant miller

Is it not a financial fair play issue why we couldn’t make a signing, our current wage bill must be to high compared to this financial year ? Will we not see the benefits next season

James Curran

Lads, I don't see this window as negative. We got our targets in early. Retained the players who wanted to stay. We have now guaranteed a transfer kitty for this season and next whilst we finish the infrastructure projects like Edmonson House. Which will generate more income for the club every year after it's built.

PR__92

The hard truth is until we match Celtics spending we will only win a league title every few years money doesn't guarantee success but if it's a 2 horse race and 1 team spends double every window that will be the outcome

PR__92

I dont think hard truth is a saying come to think of it 😂

Adam

I think the model is still in it's infancy. I also think it's far too early to become so pessimistic over it. Bassey was a bolt from the blue so to speak. Patterson sale was likely a more realistic reflection on how our business model will work. Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly hope we come across more Calvin Bassey like players, but he was likely the exception to the rule, as of right now. But that said, if we develop a reputation for developing good players who can go down south and to the continent and stand out there, then we'll start selling players for big fees more frequently. If we can marry that with winning domestic trophies and playing regularly in either CL groups or the latter stages of the Europa League. Then we'll start to see bigger fee players coming in the door. I might be a bit prudent or overly cautious, but I think we maybe should avoid running before we can walk. Ajax can charge silly money for players because they've got a cast iron and magnificent track record to point at. To date we've sold Bassey, Patterson and Aribo, we aren't at that stage, yet. We'll get there, might take a few more seasons for it to start translating into the expectations of this summer.

Adam

On the points on clarity and transparency. It desperately needs to improve. It simply has to get better or I fear the relationship with this current board will be irreparably damaged as a result. Which given what they've done for us, it would be a travesty for that happen, but it would be a travesty entirely of the boards own doing. You only need to look across the city to see a figure of hate, who has effectively ran the show up here to the benefit of one club for the past decade and their fans cannot fucking stand him. So much so they chased him out of the role, albeit temporarily. It's not enough at Rangers to simply do your job/role competently. We need a bit of something back and I agree with Martyn we need a figure head to rally ourselves around.

Paul Kerr

Nailed it. I personally think the support deserve some respect. Season ticket holders in particular have been hit in the pocket time and time again. They've had a year or more spent watching on TV. The mess that is MyGers which seems to be punishing loyal supporters, how can that be? Now it's a cash grab with UCL ticketing - In 2years time it will be a 5 game package in Europe. On transfers, I didn't see a single fan that was unreasonable when talking about signings post PSV. Asking for one maybe two. Players with fairly modest fees being suggested. All pretty sensible. There's definitely an unnecessary disconnect of the board's making. It's not a good situation when the comms only consist of DD notifications.

Tommy

An excellent listen lads, comprehensive and thorough analysis. I think a consistent point that came across was the ongoing poor communication from the club being at the root of a lot of the issues. We have a Director of Comms at the club. I know you lads are close to him and I know he likely still listens on occasion. He needs to sharpen up quickly, as the decisions being made by him or his team are creating unrest amongst the support. He needs to start being called out for it. And if he listens and sees the comments then hopefully he can reflect on the mood and seek to improve this quickly.

David connor

I was hoping for a pod all about the huge game we have against the great unwashed today to get the battle fever going instead most of the program was about negative off the field stuff that surely could have waited until after the game ?

Alan Ferguson

I’m less bothered than most then at lack of signings this week….I think the squad we have is more than capable of winning the league this season (even if we lose this weekend). Is it possible that much of the behind the scenes activity was contingency planning if a big money deal took a player away from us this week and we then would’ve needed to go big (most likely over the odds) at last minute to replace?

Stuart Porter

Is there a game today? 40 mins in and it hasn’t been mentioned yet. I get it but window is shut and we need to get behind the team. They are not a poor team because we haven’t suddenly bought someone. Yes, we wanted more but this is what we’ve got and it’s still a good team. Let’s draw a line, move on and pump this shower!!!!

Martin Davies

There's maybe some scope for a signing or 2 in January to boost us during the run in

Scotia Scoot

Great pod gents. I don’t share the anger or concern about lack of deadline day signings. 1) many businesses are bricking it to what is round the corner with the hyperinflation & possible recession in 2023. Scared to think to how much the energy bills will be rising to! 2) We have outstanding young players coming through. I’d rather blood them in SPFL than getting assaulted in Dumbarton. 3) back on top by tea time 🇬🇧

Scott Watson

Think this is a fair point. There was obviously and quite rightly an elation at Bassey's sale - but I don't think that signalled that "the model" was fully up and running. For me, it's when the next set of players are sold that marks this because that cycle will have been self-sustaining rather than bootstrapped. Matondo/Yilmaz/Sands/Tillman will all (potentially in the case of the last two) hopefully be examples of both the self-sustaining model and the starting point for players going up a level

Graham Espie

This is the first time I’ve been disappointed with a heart and hand podcast. Total negativity, had to switch it off before the preview.

Andrew Whiteside

Agree with the point on communicating better with fans on future planning. My hope is we invest any windfall cash in the long term to increase revenue year on year.

Heart and Hand

I get that Graham but then again if we go the other way we’re not being honest and we’re cheerleading.

David

Gio and Wilson OUT!

Alan Baxter

You don’t survive as manager by being 3-0 twice at HT to Celtic. It’s that simple. Doesn’t matter the investment so far, like Bournemouth did during the week, the manager takes the blame for a horrific result and should ultimately cost him his job rightly or wrongly

William

Banging all week we need a solid defender, Goldson has had more partners than Joan Collins. GIOVANI...YOUR GETTING IT WITH BOTH BARRELS... STOP PLAYING A MIDFIELDER AT CENTRE BACK.... GET RID OF ALL THESE INJURY PRONE WASTERS, YOU HAD A CHANCE TO GET THEM OUT

Stephen A

That's a worry Graham. You seem to have confused honesty with negativity. Hopefully today opened your eyes a bit.
