Is it possible the interpretation of the compete comment by Gio meant going deep in the competition rather than competing in individual games?

Tamus

Logs in - hoping for Gio is Gone

Laura McCrimmon

This is what I think he was meaning but in the heat of the moment his answer came out wrong and he has been misunderstood. And as expected there are plenty out there who haven't wanted him from the start and pounced on this. I certainly took it as meaning we couldn't compete in terms of finances and going far into the competition. I will say again there are players letting him and us down, as a collective it ain't working the now but changing the manager will not solve it as I don't see anyone else doing any better with those players. And if some have downed tools under him then they can get out of the club, as they ain't just playing for him they are playing for the club and the fans.

michael Cochrane

Sorry but if he loses Sat hes done fir me even if it’s September

chris smith

Gio is toast, we have to just admit it. The issue is that it is simply not convenient at the moment. When you are playing poorly and deemed to be one game from defeat there is 99% no way back

andy rose

I think this is potentially what he meant to say, however that's not what said. If he has misspoken then it's up to him to come out and say so asap because many fans will rightfully feel annoyed and let down.

Ross Whitehead

I hope David gets a good rest and is back soon. It must be exhausting for him having to deal with all the morons on social media that blame him for all and sundry.

Graeme Burns

He wont see the end of the January transfer window, TBH he could be gone by the time of the World Cup

Alan Cowan

GVB precarious position isn't just based on results, although they are most important, but Colin you have just listed a neverending list of problems, set pieces, lack of effort, lack of fitness, players maybe not following his tactics, injuries , unhappy looking players and his overall demeanor etc etc. The list goes on. What difference, long term does 3 points at Aberdeen make, because we know that we will fall into the current form again. He has far too much in the way of loyalty to the same bunch of failures that let us down, we and you know who they are. For me , he's toast, and he should be dismissed sooner rather than later. His presser after the match gives lots away, body language, fidgeting , he's out of his depth, struggling with excuses and doesn't exude confidence in his own ability and this is being passed to the playing staff

Andrew Whiteside

I’m coming round to the opinion that the players might not be good enough to play the way Gio wants. He expects them to improve and raise levels and they have not. So I’m left with a real sense of has Gio misjudged the potential of the players including the long serving players or are the players getting it in training and not taking it out on the park with them?

STOOJIE

This goes a lot deeper than a run of bad games. There is something up bigtime far to many players not playing for the shirt or him or just shit outta form. Kents workin his ticket because he's off January defo the summer , same as Alfie. I gave up my season book this year because I'd had it with the board. All through covid they took money and offered nothing back except freezin season ticket prices then Gerrard leaves because of lack of investment because the board didnae want to build from a position of strength. Now we're back to being a shit show. If parks selling up to this Hong Kong mob I genuinely think we're fucked. Aberdeen are flying this season this shower off shite will get pumped 3-0.

James

We went into this season with our 2nd keeper as 1st, had James Sands and Goldson as our pairing (albeit injury led), used a third place striker as our main striker. We put a lot of our hopes on an inexperienced loan. On top of all that, we failed to use our CL gains to get one or two quality players in. If Gio think that squad is good enough then we are buggered. If he wanted more/better players but was refused then we are buggered.

KennyY

Let’s be brutally honest our recruitment has been dire in the last few years with rare exceptions. Why get a Dutch management team in and not use your knowledge of that league to improve the squad. Was still hurting from last weekend and I didn’t expect us to win last night but please give us a bit of fight. Show us that the badge and the fans mean something to you. Must win Saturday or it’s going to be a long season

John leitch

If we bin the manager and his back room staff it will cost us financially We have new players still to bed in and injured players due to return Patience

Colin Mathie

If the game goes ahead, which i seriously doubt btw and we do lose then yep i agree, he needs to go.

Mike Black

The team is too old, I want to see younger legs in particularly in midfield

Gregg

All through covid the board had to shore up the club - was it a £20m loss - with their own cash. They also delivered us a league title for a bit of balance. They should come out and give some explanations as to what is going on now - fans expectations vs reality - as there is a clear mismatch.

Mark

The disrespectful manner in which Gio is being talked about completely validates Steven Gerrard's decision to bail last November and join Villa when that job became available. Fans expect loyalty from managers but only on their terms. Managers are entirely correct to look after their own interests first because when fans deem them to be dispensable it very quickly becomes 'GTF Time' no matter whether it is mid-season, or the manager has a contract. But when the manager leaves for a perceived better opportunity then he's a snake/rat/fraud etc.

Spoon

Mind boggles at some of the attitudes from fans, petulant stuff by and large and detached from reality. We lost a few games off the back of a season where we were one game from a euro trophy which we lost on pens, yes the game vs them was sore but better managers than Gio have lost those. In terms of Ajax the expectation levels were mental, in no metric are are close to them. The support is becoming worryingly more bipolar and knee jerk. When we turned over PSV we got too high, after a few sore ones we are going too low. Time to reset, get back to basics, let the new players come in and potentially even take a gamble on some youth, it’s one league set back and one defeat to our groups top seed away ffs it’s not 2012 again. Let’s stay calm folks

David

Only one DU from David this week so far 😔. Hopefully he ditches his day off tomorrow and gets working 🙂

Paul fitzpatrick

Not sure how you expected Gio to answer David’s question Colin? I thought he gave a perfectly reasonable response, and without naming the player Gio called him out for getting blocked by the smallest player on the pitch.

Colin

I think the point I’m making is that you are only going to get a 20 second or so answer. So expecting to get to the root of issues and find out loads of new info in these pressers won’t happen. That’s all 👍🏻

STOOJIE

Far too many ostriches with their head in the sand in our support. It's fine ,it's nothing new, these things happen , just a wee rough patch we're rangers we'll get through it. 10 years of this shite in 1 form or another 1 league and 1 Cup is nothing short of a disgrace If Douglas Park wanting out as fast as he can doesn't tingle your spider sense we'll frankly your a .............. insert whatever word you feel applies

Gary Brown

Thanks for the update Colin.
