David interviews Heart and Hand's own Adam Thornton about his fabulous new book "Gerrard's Blueprint" and discusses:

- the evolution of Rangers tactics over three years

- the changes in roles and players and his own growing understanding of tactical approaches

And above all how the book is a testament to an astonishing growth that culminates in Rangers 55th league title.

Enjoyed that show, thanks guys. My copy was delivered recently and it was very interesting to hear what you went through to bring it to us Adam, thanks. I honestly believe that the actual football played & tactics deployed for a huge majority of the games in the 55 season are the VERY best I've seen a Rangers team play - I've been going since late 1979/80. Some of the 'team' goals scored are absolutely awesome, some of the individual goals scored are absolutely awesome. They could entirely populate a top ten spanning the last 15 years, with many getting into an all time list. However the 55 achievement gets FAR more credit than what brought about the achievement. At best the defence is more lauded than the attack. So many of the goals are not regarded as 'classics' - hopefully history & retrospect will be far kinder to them. No fans in Ibrox was obviously a factor in this as you don't have the same 'ownership' of the moment on watching TV (locked down alone / with a few family) as opposed to live in Ibrox (with 50000 'family'!). However I reckon the tension of just getting the right results to win the league also 'distanced' the fans so much from the actual play and getting the memories / love for the goals and style of play. I could listen to Mick Beale talk about football and tactics all day, such an interesting guy. Really looking forward to reading and studying your book. Thanks again Adam.

Really interesting. I must admit to not being a massive fan of much of the modern jargon and obsession with tactics, but the story of how we went from an easily beaten disjointed mess in 2018 to an unbeatable and dominant league title in 2021 is a story that absolutely deserved to be told. Maybe a slight shame that the book didn't come out a bit earlier.
