John Smith

Hope you get well soon David 🙂

Alan Weir

The Correct Use of Soap: one of the great albums of the 80s. Listen to it all the way through, David, and you will be better in no time😁

Peter Baird

Further to John Bennetts interview yesterday 20 odd million spent on roofs and whatever gets spent on the disabled access which I assume wont be cheap either at what point do you cut losses and rebuilt

David Hanlon

So basically it's actually better being in the Europa league and winning games, than in a Champions league where we get NIL points.

David Hanlon

So what was all the crap about getting into the Champions league and the Money we would get. I think supporters should have been told this. Cup fault again

David Norton

I couldn't give a toss about Ed House if it impacts having a team on the park

Scott Christian

To me most disappointing thing Bennett said was around Davis, Arfield and McGregor playing last Wednesday as some sort of evidence of player trading. All on one year deals & actually evidence of how the forward planning really is poor. Still some way to go with the comms. (Get well soon btw!)

Allan

As a former business owner, I'm likely in the "Andy" camp regarding the financials. However, let's be very clear. Rangers have done a disastrous job of fan engagement, transparency and communication for some years now. Like it or not businesses are what they portray to their customers. It's obvious for the past few years the club is simply focused on extracting money from the support. Everything is geared to that. That's fine. Most happily go along with that model. But this half-hearted attempt to pacify fans with these interviews needs to be replaced by regular updates and open transparent communications.

Allan Waltham

Tune! We used to cover that back in the old band days in the 80s

Scott Christian

The spend on asset care and maintenance is a drop in the ocean compared to a rebuild (even limited to the Broomloan, Copland and SJ); not to mention the severely reduced income on Matchday for 2-3 years. The stadium is tired, yes, but structurally sound.

Peter Baird

20 odd million to fix the roofs for me seems expensive and what will the bills be for the disabled access going on what was said by John Bennett we'll know at the AGM

Gary Q

If you covered that song your guitarist must have some talent!

Martin Boyd

I’m in the Andy camp a bit too level headed most of the time. But the communication from the club has been appalling, tell us the plan , before folk make stuff up and lose their shit. There are people on social media who wallow in this either because they have an agenda against certain individuals or are just miserable gits. As an aside get well soon David, back at the fitba after the international break hopefully.

Scott Christian

Costs are at an all time high. In comparison you’d get just over 1 mile of new motorway for a similar cost. I think any upgraded disabled areas would cost more than £20m as major reconfiguration would be required for access, necessary space, etc. (I do fully back vastly improved facilities for disabled fans btw, I think it’s a necessity).

Tamus

I genuinely dont understand guys like the letter writer at the very end. How can you possibly watch us getting tonked 11-0 over 3 games and still be happy clappy. How can you watch in inept shit-show vs the DABs and think that was a great afternoon. The performances of poundland Eminem, Goldson and Kamara have been pathetic. The lack of leadership on and off the park is astounding. Yet still we have people wondering why folk are angry. If you are not angry with this current shit show - are you even a Rangers Fan? We deserve better than the utter incompetence we are being served up (at Premier rate prices) in every single area of the club. Get it sorted, smoke and mirror sound bites are no where near good enough. Ps Hope you're on the mend soon

Graham Roy

Heard too many of these type of statements from the board. I will judge them on actions. They have some in the bank with getting rid of spivs, however if we don’t win league it’s down to them. If we are still in touching distance in January the ball is in the boards court!

Graham Roy

Ps hope you feel better soon David 👍🏻

Jim Milne

Rangers by charging for media access, have deliberately limited the accuracy of news we see outside of Fan Media. As a fan I much prefer Fan Media, but for the money the club charges you for engagement is scandalous for the access to board, manager & players. Instead of dropping a video because of fan anger, or 50 words when cancelling the Sydney Cup the board should be providing more access to Fan Media to increase supporter engagement. Everything is to maximise revenue, which is fine. The downside to that is when the "consumer" feels fleeced they'll stop spending and become angry at "more for less". We shouldn't have to wait for the AGM or shit hitting the fan to feel like we know what's going on. Too many questions needing asked, and when each fan media is limited to 1 question it reeks of deliberately throttling the information released.

Graeme Duncan

Hope you feel better soon David 👍

Simon

Ha, I’m the same as George. Muted at least 10 people I’ve followed for years over the past couple of days. Absolute mood hoovers the lot of them.

Rona Bluebell

Get well, David. Covid makes you sound more statesmanlike. Take the compliment and rest.

JM

Why does the player trading model have to sell a player EVERY summer - surely it’s average revenue over a 5/6 year period which matters ?

JM

Also - why test for Covid ? Madness.

Scott

strange all the issues written off as 'comms' but no criticism of the person responsible for these. we were told gerrard wasn't backed due to not qualifying for cl. now we are told the cl actually isn't that much - which is it? robertson's figures cited also didn't include sponsorship bonuses, tickets etc. we were told last agm there was a 7m funding gap that was already met. where's the EL run/player sales/gerrard compo/ CL money gone?

Heart and Hand

Well, because having had covid I thought ‘this feels like covid again’ so I tested to see if I had covid. Turns out I have covid.

Heart and Hand

PR people can’t make senior people do interviews even if they believe they should. So when criticising about a six-month silence then the aim should be at those who chose to be silent.

Heart and Hand

You don’t need to sell every summer but you should be in a position to be able to should the situation arose. We’re not.

Simon H&H

Think most assumed given the group we were in that six goings over were more than likely tbh? We are a Europa side who punched above our weight. However, the cash is great and we do need it in the main. Winning the title this season is a necessity

David Hanlon

Totally agree winning the league is number one but I don't think we have a manager who seems to understand the SPL teams too defensive, passing too slow. Horseshoe football doesn't suit our players. Going back to the Champions league the problem is that it isn't the land of milk and honey that most supporters were lead to believe money wise. In fact we will probably have made more money out of the Europa league run last season.

Alan

Hope you are feeling better soon David. Great pod even though you are under the weather.

Jonny Aitken

David, Again you are very neutral and playing Devils Advocate which I admire. I think you are spot on about what u said about the board etc however… Can we not bring up the fact that the board only ever come out swinging when they are under attack. It is radio silence from them and as soon as they get wind of people talking about then it’s interview, statements etc. A lot of supporters think this and this pisses us off more than the sound bites they are coming out with atm. Our PR department is also a joke, when all eyes are on Celtic and their disgraceful actions and their defeat at the weekend, we come out with these interviews which are having us laughed at. It beggars belief.

Heart and Hand

Absolutely we can. That’s what I meant about silences, and about seeing if this is a start of a change or just as you describe. If it’s months more till we hear from them and only when complaints reach a crescendo then nothing has changed. I think the board were pretty good up to 55, then when they started making mistakes and getting criticism (culminating in Sydney) they pulled up the drawbridge.

Michael James McLeod

David of course we want to hear about how you're doing, hope you get better soon.

Heart and Hand

Thank you Michael! Tbh I accept I can be a bit self-indulgent because I’ve always thought of it as me having a chat with pals. That’s really the idea behind the show.

Andy Gray

Hope you’re feeling better soon David!

Martin Davies

Some harsh comments on there Tamus. We're all bears on here but we're also a broad church and our fans agree on nothing other than our love for the club! Everyone has their opinions, doesn't make them less of a Gers fan.

Scott

i personally think that a board member having to sit down to do an interview to explain whats happening is a total last resort. an attempted salvage job of a totally failed comms strategy

Scott

not having a go at you btw bud, just frustrated. get well soon

Martin Davies

Thought you articulated the current issues with the player trading model very well. We emptied the "sell" category with Patterson, Bassey and Aribo, but we have no one pushing into that category now. Let's hope some of the summer projects or kids have a really accelerated development. Get well soon

Heart and Hand

Yeah I worry. I’m not sure I see anyone within two seasons being in that position. Which means all our money eggs are in Euro basket.

Jayson Moore

Hope your feeling better soon David. Did u just use the word panglossy on a Wednesday night? Covid indeed has a lot to answer for😜

Gary Brown

Thanks for the update David. Very well balanced & considered opinions, despite the natural emotions you and we've all been feeling recently (plus covid for you! 🤞 you feel better soon - Didn't you get your Rangers Accessories launch email today? Rangers rubber duckies!!! That'll help get your pan-glossy back buddy🙂👍) Like making the UEL group stage in SGs first season - this UCL is all about entering the group stage and making the best money we can to try and advance our club, players and team to be able to compete on a more equal footing at this level, in the future. In Mick Beale's podcast with The Gallant Few you'll hear first hand just how vital that first (unexpected) qualification was to the rebuilding of the club & team, "enabling the advancement of the project" ie 55. This is simply the next stage up of the same process. We have to be realistic and patient, certainly at UCL level. John Bennett accurately describes our player trading model - it has only just begun but like David said, needs to be developed further and not stopped. We have bought 'project' players we hope to develop and move on; Sands, Tillman, Matondo, Yilmaz. Next the young guys from the B team, Lowry, McCann, King, then the many younger academy prospects brought in through the summer like Lovelace. This is to try and 'stock' the conveyor belt of prospects to trade. This is the stage we are at. The Ajax model works but the drawback is their good players & teams continually get sold & broken up. However their fans understand and accept this policy as a 'fait a complit'. They accept there are sometimes barren years as prospects mature at differing times. But Ajax are so masterful at it now they are buying the very best 'prospects' eg Bassey £20mil to flip for £80mil, instead of prospects at £2 or 3 mil to sell on for £15-20mil. So chances are, not many barren years! We are decades behind the likes of Ajax, plus Porto, Benfica, Dortmund who've operated the system and are all in the same bracket of 'trader'. All through the last transfer window and just recently there's been a massive cry of "buy established first teamers, lots of them, now!". We can not afford to! The Souness / Advocaat style of Rangers buying is very long gone, never to be repeated. The club is still being rebuilt from the mismanagement upto 2012 (& pillaging til 2015/6). But it is being rebuilt on a "never again" footing, "to last the next 150 years" - it HAS to be this way. If we spend right now what we've earned just now it will be unsustainable, very, very quickly. With no player trading model possible (bar an occasional academy graduate - most likely to be poached before getting anywhere near the first team like Billy Gibson or the young striker this summer) we will never, ever progress. We scoff at the parochial, narrow minded, short termism of the 'other' SPFL clubs re the proposed TV deal, taking what they can, right now. How is 'spend all the money we've made this year, on players for this year, to win the league this year' any different? Here & now, top dollar on assets immediately deprecating for a short term goal. A rapid spiral down, unable to compete financially. Can the support pay more for STs? Can we release more kits?, etc etc. Rapidly turns into more money from us for less on the park! I have faith in Gio and our squad, many are still settling in, a few injuries. Support them, see how it develops. Interesting to note that mhob having to play 2 competative games in a week for the first time since last xmas dropped league points! Not enough gas in the tank!!

Jonny Aitken

When I said ‘can we not bring up’ I didn’t mean with the board. I probably didn’t word it right. It was more in the sense of a point I was just trying to make. I don’t mean I demand you to go directly to the board with my statement like some on twitter expect.

Heart and Hand

Haha no I didn’t think you had! I just meant I know it’s something they are aware if because they have been told. Whether they believe it or act on it is a difficult matter but they definitely know it’s an issue.

Graham Jones

We’ll summed up. The one who needs to answer more than anyone is Wilson. He’s the one who runs the football department for the board, and who handles all negotiations and sets out the strategy. There appears to be a lack of one at the moment. Cue an interview with him being spoon fed questions on RTV tomorrow. Anyway, hope your not too unwell and have a speedy recovery. We need your common sense right now, because there’s so much spin in the air.

George Higgins

I feel there’s a bit of conflation of the Pr/communication side and the financial side. The board have failed miserably on relating to and explaining things to the fans. On the financial side their silence has allowed the silence to be filled with ill or uninformed chat. Some are overestimating our income by about 100%. A brief listen to Keiran Maguire would put the income and expenditure in perspective. Andy McGowan has also put the facts out there. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but my main criticism of the board is not selling players in Summer 2021 and reinvesting then. Not doing that has cost us big time and we won’t cash in on main assets now.

Paul Kerr

These puff piece interviews have actually come across as very negative to me. Half expecting Bisgrove tomorrow telling me how disappointed he is in us again. Downplaying what has been an exceptional year financially no matter what way you look at it is always going to be difficult to pull off. 'We don't get that much from the champion's league it's much closer to £20m'... I'm paraphrasing, but after grabbing another £7m+ in ticket/hospitality sales from supporters with unprecedented prices I think that's a bit cheeky. Maybe if it was spent more wisely we'd get some of the performance related pot too Mr Robertson.

Andrew Carter

Tune . The great John McGeoch ❤️

Tamus

I stand by my opinion - anyone who shrugs their shoulders at this current mess clearly has zero passion for our club

John Walker

My favourite guitarist ever .Genius taken too early. Get well soon David.

Heart and Hand

Am I right in saying John McGeoch was later a Banshee?

Heart and Hand

Andy McGowan is quite zen about it. Are you seriously suggesting a guy who runs a bus and attends every match has ‘zero passion for our club’?

Tamus

Acht well, if Andy is OK about us getting absolutely pumped at the Piggery twice in six months, and losing the league after sp*nking a 6 point lead, then I suppose all is well in the world.

Heart and Hand

I’ll take that as a ‘no’ then. 😂 There are various views. It’s a very dangerous and unproductive road when we appoint ourselves as the arbiters of what opinions others should hold. Not everyone agrees with you. Doesn’t mean they’re right or you’re wrong, but saying they aren’t real fans is just silly.

Tamus

Silly is being Zen about the shit show we currently find ourselves in, and accepting the utterly soundbite bollocks the club has put out in the last two days.

Tamus

He's currently doing well, isn't he? Ask the Villa fans, much like Warbs he is/was completely 1 dimensional with no plan B, 1 trophy with us, the malmo disaster and the way he left us like a thief in the night

Brian McLatchie

Plenty of endeavour shown by the ladies team v Benfica, will be a big ask next week, difference in quality particularly in central midfield was significant but good to actually see the game. Heading back to to Oz on Sunday but have managed to attend the 19,s Ladies and fist team CL games plus Dundee Utd league game. Go easy on the Ticket Office for a few weeks the assistance they provided me last Tuesday was superb and culminated in finding me a ticket for the first team CL game

Johnny walker

Sure was probably their best Albums juju and kaleidoscope. Classics like Christine, spellbound, Israel. Also played in public image. Was originally from Greenock.
