First, no one knew how to actually go about removing a president from office. Then, no one knew what to do when the president had left the office. In Episode 9 of the Watergate at 50 series, Shane and David are back to recount the tumultuous first few weeks of the new Gerald Ford administration, one failed from the start by the one it had just succeeded.

An unelected Gerald Ford is suddenly thrust into the biggest job in the world and struggles with what to do with the lingering question of the legal ramifications for Richard Nixon. He settles on "full, free and absolute pardon" of the former president, but that decision raises questions that the House Judiciary Committee calls on Ford to answer. Plus, Nixon struggles for answers in his own interview with a British journalist hanging onto his career, and the 37th president has to pave a new path post-White House that no one before him had ever gone down.

This series has been a really good listen. Thanks, chaps.

Shane

Thanks for listening, Allan. We've enjoyed bringing it to you guys.

Gordon McCool

Excellent stuff lads. I’m sure you will have said this previously but what movies, book or documentaries would you recommend for this?

Steve Clark

Well done lads this series is an excellent listen.

Gary Brown

Thoughly enjoyed the entire series. Brilliant work and delivered so well. Thanks David & Shane 👍👍👏👏🙂🙂

Have really enjoyed listening to this series, I knew the very basics of the story, but the deep dive into it has been fascinating, some incredible characters, the loyalty that so many showed Nixon is unbelievable, considering what was going on.

Paul Kerr

Great series gents. Very enjoyable even for the less well informed like myself. I was thinking of the civil war just as David suggested it. A warts and all on the western expansion would also be interesting. I'm sure you would both be well versed on some of the politicians and industrialists involved.

Brian Toner

Absolutely fascinating, well researched and well presented, thanks for the tip about the book, best wishes gentleman. Regards Brian

Bob MacCallum

Great series. Congrats, guys. I suggest your next be on Iran/ Contra and Uncle Ronnie's con act as President.

Guy Incognito

Absolutely loved this. This and the history boys are two of my favourites on the network Not sure what the hook would be but I'd love to hear you guys discuss the politics of the 80s. I'm personally fascinated by Reagan's presidency, and particularly the people behind the president who really ran things. When you also factor in the opening up of Russia to the western world, the rise of thatcher etc.,there's loads to cover

Hi, just finished this today, loved the show. How about an alternative universe where Ford Doesn't pardon Nixon, and the whole trial continues. How would this have affected Nixon, the politics of the time and indeed Ford. Love the Civil war idea, I suggested it during the presidents series, but we probably need an extended pandemic to fit all the shows in.
