Colin is joined by the Staffs and Cammy to discuss a night that started so well...

Comments

Euan Dover

Just back home and switched this on. Brutal. Folk round about me smiling nervously when the 6th and 7th goals went in. Just not used to that type of drubbing but Christ we absolutely fell to bits there. Mortifying result.

David Innes

This is the sort of result that can leave serious mental scarring. Worried about what it could do King’s confidence in particular.

Mark

I've been told before that I need Jesus in my life - However since I am an atheist, Alex Staff Snr is probably as near as I can get. MAKE ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT THIS, STRIDER

David Harrison

Can’t make any harsh decisions based on this result. Goldson went off, Salah came on. Levels. Gotta go full force for domestic glory now.

Ross Thomson

He should be gone after that.

John Davidson

Only listening out of curiosity in how Strider can see the positives in this shitshow.

David Campbell

GVB needs removed now to loss 6 goals in a half is never acceptable regardless of who it's against enough is enough.

Billy McCormack

Embarrassing especially at Ibrox, Gio out and he can take Wilson with him, and I'm not gonna listen to people saying this is a huge step up in class bs, yeah get beat by maybe one or two goals not 7 at Ibrox that's unforgivable, so I'm done with Gio and his boring way of speaking I'm done with his stubbornness to not play Buff and Colak at the same time, I'm done with him full stop, I'll be subseating my Season ticket while that man is in charge at Rangers.

Spoon

Going against the grain….we were in it and competing for 45min, the difference in second half for me was down to basic errors from players and the Goldson injury didn’t help the rhythm. Some players did well but too many were unable to take a touch and just find a blue jersey or jump to compete for a header or just play the ball forwards and when that happens with a team who has Liverpool’s quality you invite disaster. Delighted until half time with effort and commitment, disappointed we didn’t show same in second but while sore it isn’t how the season should be judged. The sad thing is so much of what happened was self inflicted with slack play.

Sandy Innes

Jesus, you boys are keen.

Andrew Hind

I'm embarrassed by this humiliation, my cousin who is a Liverpool fan was embarrassed for me, I would say Gio out along with some players who are done, but is it Gio or Ross Wilson or both who should pay with jobs after this mauling, I hope king is not destroyed by this as he was thrown under the bus

Leslie Hibbert

Yous always say nobody will be listening after a really bad result, but I find i NEED these pods for rationality I can't conjour myself. So thank you, because I know I couldn't do it myself

Tamus

Please just fur cough GVB

Craig Hart

Can't see how Gio survives this. The bottom line is that I've lost trust in the manager. Especially going into a new year OF game. I think he has to go. It's not working.

Clark Aitken

Thanks for doing this pod guys - as mentioned above, a lot of us need to hear like minded supporters go over the game on nights like this as a sort of therapy!

Stephen Rankine

Like Gio but a Rangers manager can’t survive that result especially when you add in 4-0,4-0,3-0 v them Ajax then Napoli this season. His replacement?Fecked if I know, this is a real low coming so soon after the high of Europa final last season.

Moon Man

Kent should never wear a starting top again. Shocking.

Bigticket

Gio out. I don't care about this 'it's the players' fault' pish because it's the manager who continues to pick these players and fail to ensure they know what they're supposed to be doing. We have no recognisable shape, no style and falter under the slightest pressure. Players who are well capable of doing their jobs well look bereft of confidence and determination. Please make it stop.

Ryan Stewart

Celtic Park x 2, Ajax and Liverpool. 4 complete capitulations in the space of a year. You cannot oversee these results and remain the Rangers manager. He has to go!

Derek MacMillan

Levels today. Only surprise was we didn't get pumped in both games. The first season back in the champions league was always going to be a nightmare. Even more so with this group. 3 subs: they bring on Tiago, Salah and Robertson whilst we have Morelos, Wright and Matondo. Can't compete. Our team probably cost less than Nunez's signing on fee! Major disappointment was our left hand side at the end. Targeted over and over and didn't have any answers.

William

I got slated for saying Gio had morphed into Pedro, I stand by this...

David Gardner

The manager should have been sacked after Celtic and Ajax - he needs to go for that alone. The Europa league run has papered over the cracks - we lost the final and there was a 12 point swing in the league last season which we lost! The players don’t look as fit under him as we were under Gerrard!! I can take getting beat in the CL but not hammered Gio must go.

Derek Bradley

Surprised with how accepting the car podders were of that disgraceful result tonight. Yes the CL is a step up, but gios getting is humiliated every game

Elaine Campbell

Well done guys, thank you for giving us at least some catharsis. A tough night

Ross Thomson

They chucked it after 3-1. Embarrassing. Barasics confidence is now in the bin. Kent shouldn't kick another ball for Rangers

John stoddart

Manager can’t survive that no matter the quality of opposition it’s unbelievable the way the team chucked it and John Lundstram is awful for someone we are looking to run a midfield he can’t control a ball

Craig mackay

While I appreciate the positivity and it’s a difficult pod to do, to suggest our transfer business hasn’t been that bad as we are still only 2 points behind them in the league (despite our injuries) is a little bizarre. This was one of the most humiliating performances and results in the clubs history. 🤷‍♂️

Billy Forrester

Gio gotta go after this. There is no disgrace getting beaten in this competition but to get pummelled like that at Ibrox is humiliating. There are teams of similar size and similar or even less budgets as us who have not got a record as bad as we have in the groups. 0 points and minus 15 goals after 4 games, we are potentially gonna end up with 0 points and the worse goal difference in champions league history, let that sink in. Just go please Gio

Lea Thomsen

Too kind there gents. Forget last season! That’s done. We’ve been absolutely smashed in every ‘big’ game this season. Gio oot!

William Hughes

Second half we sat 15 yards further back. The quick press was gone. Simple possession was hurried and too many loose balls not reaching a blue jersey. Middle of the park we didn't compete. Second ball contention was non existent compared to the first half. Add that to a high level and clinical opposition and we didn't give ourselves any sort of platform to push on second half. P.S. Where is the determination to win a header? That doesn't cost £Ms.

CJT

Just didn't see that 2nd half coming. Thought we were good first half and only amateur defending from Tav and Sakala at the front post cost us going in ahead. 2nd half just utter capitulation and not for the first time. Unlike some others it seems, i can take a thumping from a team miles better than us but I don't think Liverpool even played all that well tonight and we shouldn't be hiding behind they are (or have been) a great team. Comedy cuts defending at everyone of those second half goals and ridiculous attitude from the collective group. We give Goldson pelters some times but take him out and we collapse. Napoli are far and away the best team in the group. Really not looking forward to it. Not sure what we do if we ditch Gio. Not even really sure we should but feck me Rangers managers don't usually survive multiple pumpings like this. Any drop off in SPFL form and I don't see how he survives.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the pod guys, must be difficult to do after that. All week its been 'Oh have a go, need to have a go' and we did we were competitive against them for almost an hour, well them with a number of starters rested. Their quality was already taking its toll, because we'd had a go, they are smarter, more techincally gifted and better conditikned physically than us - and then they roll out the superstars, nice and fresh for a run out in the last 20 min to handle the game for sure, whether they were behind, level or leading. WTF! Talk about levels! This lot have been in the CL final, 3 out of the last 5 is it? Yeah, that Champions League thing which it the absolute pinnacle of club football on the planet. Our most expensive signing in 20 years couldn't get a start in their reserves. Like I said - Levels! And we sure saw the difference in them tonight.

Making Strides

I'd love to. But I can't handle the abuse I get for such things tonight, so maybe later! Tonight was a horrible second half, sadly.

Martyn Dick

It’s very raw right now..but future managerial board decisions are going to be based on expectations v experience….. Expectations - for CL results, they should have m been very low (Europa league at best) … but the experience has been scarring - especially tonight. First 45 we were excellent but as per the pattern under Gio, we don’t last the 90. This is now the biggest challenge to the board since BEFORE they appointed Gerrard

David

Happy clapping shit. This is probably one of the worst results in Rangers history but keep on keeping on

Berra

Knew the first from the corner was gonny be a goal after the fake, if we weren't bad enough at corners they then threw a curveball and it worked a treat for them

Douglas Hannah

If Gio had any balls he would be tendering his resignation just now. I’m an old guy who’s seen us getting turned over by teams in Europe down the decades, Ajax Juve etc, where you have to hold your hands up and accept they are top class opposition. I cannot accept a total capitulation like we seen tonight, I know Liverpool are on another planet, but I witnessed a Gio led team fall apart like an MFI wardrobe, and it’s not for the first time. Do we wait for the inevitable next capitulation or act now, I realise there are other issues, Wilson being one and board members who look way out their depth. Buck stops with the manager and I don’t see him recovering from this shambles.

Scott Garden

Let’s be honest. Gio wanted players that are at a level so much higher than this. And didn’t get them. This ain’t the managers fault

maccalsa

Can we all accept now that Gio is not this tactical genius? We performed brilliantly in Europe last season and we held our own, but a lot of our games were ona coin flip of being glorious or disaster. Did we deserve to be in the final last season? Sure.... But as did a lot of the teams we played, it's just thst our roulette wheel played better than theirs. Was I expecting to be promoted from this league? No, was I hopeful of third? Yes, last was probably where we would end up, but last like this, last in the realms of the worst performers ever in the CL, never

Steve23

Don’t disagree with your comment on the left side however we were every bit as bad on the right, After a decent 1st half, Tav disappeared for that 2nd half and that is unforgivable for a Rangers captain.

Steve23

The clear loss of fitness has been glaringly obvious since the start of the season. Gerrard gave this team an identity. Everything SG and his team coached into this team has been dismantled over a very short timescale. Gio hasn’t had the money to spend he deserves the DOF has let him down badly as has the board and the players. But, him and his back room team have killed the character and soul of this team.

Colin Mathie

Yeah I found this part rather strange tbh, our last couple of transfer windows have been abysmal, especially once we knew we were in the group stages.

Brian McLatchie

Have to disagree with Cammy on his Lundstrum comments, he was miles worse than that at Anfield

Bruce Burns

Much more pragmatic than I expected guys, I am embarrassed by that second half performance and so should the players and management team be. Unacceptable how many times we have let teams run over us on Gio's watch

lewis reeves

I get the point of Mcgregor hesitating for the first goal but the bigger issue for me is the slack pass from Tav which leads to the corner which was totally avoidable, far too many players poor passing leading to goals tonight which could have been avoided and sometimes get me started on bornas weak as piss attempt at Salahs 2nd

Doug Young

Like I mentioned on the press conference thread- never seen a team treat the ball like it was infectious, just randomly firing it into the middle of nowhere. Tav did it incessantly. So so poor.

ali t

One of the big issues is that we have lost 2 star men from team and not replaced them Aribo & Bassey. No actually 4 as Tav & Lundstram are shadows of last season as well. Tbh those here from last season not one has hit top form & Colak and to an extent Lawrence are the only buys looking worth it. If not for Colak i fear our league challenge would also be in the bin.

Gordon Black

Well said about owing us the league this year... 100% they do

Spoon

Cammy spot on. Reality is this isn’t our level, it’s also reality that many of the players who have hung around the club beyond their usefulness get overly praised for being quite average, it’s like as a fan base we need to see jobbers as stars or it’s unstaunch or disloyal, it’s not we have guys likeArfield, Barasic and Kent who are two years past being moved on, they just don’t do it. Positives were we can carry a threat when we get the basics right, I though Davies again looked good (with Goldson) until it got ragged. Like it or lump it there isn’t money for a management clear out but I really hope Gio takes the chance to change out the failing old guard.

Gary Shaw

As soon as we knew that mob were winning the league last season everyone and their granny said “but they’ll get embarrassed in the CL”!…..well that result last night blows any of their embarrassments out the park….7-1 at home to a team that were about 5 players off full strength is ridiculous

David

The players chucked it after the 3rd goal. Don't think anyone can blame Gio for that. In saying that, is Gio the right man to inspire them to never let that happen again? we all know the answer to that is no. But remember, its not just Gio that's to blame. Ross Wilson hired him, Ross Wilson presented the potential players to him, and the board set the budgets. If Gio was to be sacked tomorrow, we would be in the exact same position we are in now just with another manager. Im no fan of Gio but it seems to me he is being hung out to dry from the board and Wilson. The changes that are required to move the club forward can only start at boardroom level.

David Herd

Of course, it was unrealistic to expect us to beat Liverpool, a team worth well over half a billion. But it's not just about last night. Two total capitulations at Parkhead. Battered in Amsterdam against a team who conceded 6 in their next home game. Under Gio, we don't just lose big games, we meekly surrender them and get humiliated. Last night it was obvious we had to stiffen the defence as soon as it was 3-1 yet he's still bringing on a winger for a winger when Liverpool were running amok. Worst home result in 150 years, worst home defeat in the Champions League, conceded 6 goals in a half, conceded a hat-trick in 6 minutes. And lucky we didn't concede 7 at Parkhead at least once this year. If we genuinely think a Rangers manager should survive all that, I wonder what it takes to realise he' has to go.

Hoggy

The CL is not our level. However, it’s criminal that these players have chucked it in the second half - and it’s not the first time (under Gio AND Gerrard).

David Harrison

I’m not so sure the players went in at halftime and said “right lads, let’s not bother our arses second half” ffs. Goldson going off was the game changer. That, and Liverpool came out absolutely rampant for the second half. Klop must have given them a roasting at halftime.

BlueJay

Gio gave the fans what we wanted. We were deluding ourselves (me included) that "going for it" would work. I watched the arsenal game and thought Liverpool were there to be got at. I'm still on the fence about bagging Gio; but again, its the lack of transparency on who has the overall say on recruitment to say for sure. My guess is he would not have been confident going into the champions league with this current squad, but for this game gave in to fan pressure following last weeks 2-0 loss.

Andrew Finlayson

That was one of the worst goalkeeping performances i’ve seen, about 3 or 4 of those goals are preventable with decent keeping. They had 9 shots on target and 7 went in.

Hoggy

“In the second half”. Not at half time dude. The last 20 we chucked it.

Nikky Cairney

Alex trying to be positive after that is embarrassing. And it’s not just a one night reaction form the fans. It’s constant bad defeats against Celtic, it’s Ajax, it’s Napoli, it’s USG. It was a fucking shambles. Liverpool didn’t have to play well to beat us 7-1. Take the blinkers off.

Nikky Cairney

Spot on. Trying to be positive when there’s nothing to be positive about is just cringe.

Pedro

Utter nonsense pod to be honest. The drive to saw things are great dominantes the preview and post match pod now to the point of it not being worth a listen
