Thanks David for the shout out for the Thorn boys will love that if not the game like the rest of us

Craig Hart

Agree with the points about "faith" in certain managers. But this isn't a case of "as soon as it's got bad, get rid of him" for Gio. I think if you tally everything up to this point, it's now quite fairly justified to question Gio's position at the club.

Spoon

If we are going for regime change it won’t matter with that squad, what Gio hasn’t got that SG got is backing. He is carrying a lot of players SG pushed to put in gold plated contracts that haven’t kicked a ball consistently for years. He is also unlikely to put a new stamp on a team when he isn’t getting the players he wants, I’m not saying he’s blame free but some balance is needed. Fundamentally there will need to be realism in terms of changing, it’s just another gamble that could put us back another few years of writing off a league challenge, if fans don’t like CL qualification and being 2 points off the top of the league what will they say when we rip it all up and hope it works with a new guy?

Rod

If you sack a manager 2 points off the top of the league how many potential new managers would look at that and say "bugger that"?

Colin Mathie

He damn well should be sacked on last night alone, no gers manager should survive a 7-1 humping at home to anyone.

Craig Hart

Andy I'd be interested. Based in Texas USA.

James Cameron

Final straw for me last night there has to be clear out starting with Ross Wilson his recruitment record is been pathetic. GVB the CL hammerings this season the 2 defeats at the piggery no Rangers manager should survive this. The players when the going gets tough some of our players go missing. For me sacking just the manager is a sticking plaster if he goes Wilson has to go as well. Some players some have stuck around for too long and they need to go in the summer.

Colin Walker

Good song choice David. That’s exactly how we all feel today!!

Ross Thomson

He needs to go. I'm actually angrier today than i was last night.

Andrew Finlayson

Horrific last night, i mean that was one of the worst goalkeeping performances i’ve seen. I’d like to see Yilmaz, Matondo & McCrorie on Sunday and it looks like we’ll see a Sands/King partnership.

Douglas Innes

They beat Man utd at old Trafford 5-0 just under a year ago ...... people need to realise this is a team that is capable of handing out heavy defeats , we'd a punchers chance and went 6 rounds toe to toe but our opponents superior quality's won them the contest in the end

David Herd

We are a shambles in all areas of the club right now - playing, management, recruitment, communication, etc. Sacking the manager doesn't necessarily fix any of it, but keeping him will make sure the playing side doesn't get better. We don't just lose important games under him, we get humiliated and we surrender.

David Campbell

Anybody else feel numb I've had about 3 hours kip😂 I can accept getting beat or even battered but it's the way it's happened I can't accept 6 goals in a half is just not acceptable regardless of the opposition. Time and time again under this management these horror shows keep happening its time for change

Douglas McIntyre

Gio couldn’t even be bothered to defend Lundstrom in the Hibs post match interview. Gio has fielded injured players since he arrived. Alfie last season with Tav and Lundstrom this. A Gio pre-season has seen a downturn in fitness levels. Ross Wilson amd the board are culpable. Winning 55 was enough for them.

Doug Young

I think we kind of thought (well, I did) that SG was on a "project" with a defined path and aim. It started to go tits up and he bailed but I have never felt with Gio that there is an end-game in sight. We just lurch from Jekyll to Hyde with something of a clueless, turgid gait. It's all just a bit shit.

Kevin Stuart

Metal machine music.... if you made it through all 4 parts that's dedication to your pain

Kris

Music therapy, going to see The Virginmarys in Glasgow tonight

David Speedie

Spot on about Gio He’s uninspiring and I cannot see a way where it all ends in success. The plug should be pulled now rather than in 7 months

Colin Gardner

I'd love to ask the guys what exactly can we do to compete against teams like Liverpool.David you said you wanted us to have a go. So we do and get rinsed.Everyone said get players in to compete at this level when we qualified. 2 players at £10 million each ain't suddenly make us world class.Losing 7 is absolutely unacceptable at any level but Liverpool have been in the final 3 times from the last 5 so we need to take a breath and let it calm down. What is unacceptable is our fitness levels .That's on Gio but the result last night wasn't.

Dougie Grant

Simply unacceptable.Gio has to go for that, the worst Rangers home performance I've ever seen and I've been a bear for 50 years.

David Speedie

I don’t think it’s about getting beat mate. It’s the way we’ve capitulated on so many occasions under his tenure. That’s what’s not acceptable and cannot be allowed to happen again. Do you have any confidence it won’t? Coz I haven’t 😕

Tamus

The Chap Balogun at QPR looks decent

Scott Tolmie

One of the worst gk performances I’ve seen, everything on target went in, if that was mr McLaughlin he would have been slaughtered, if mccrorrie isn’t good enough just now to replace this McGregor then he never will be

Graham Roy

Davies injured pretty much sums up this season! I am now at the point that this isn’t bad luck having so many players out!

Adam Young

I’m not on the gio out train yet but I do wonder how bad things will need to get for him to get the sack. With the significant investment in his backroom staff I can see the board persisting with him longer than they perhaps should.

Andy Barnett

To be fair, we did mention that it’s not simply about last night and the gap is evident. However, our entire campaign has been a train wreck, the collective players mentality is beyond fragile while teams will much smaller budgets than ours have at least not embarrassed themselves in equally tough groups in the competition. Gio has taken them team so far back we looks vulnerable to every half-decent side, with no sign whatsoever of this improving.

Colin Wieland

I can't say anything about that shitshow that hasn't already been said. I do have to tip my hat to Andy when he trying to talk up positives at the club though. Personally, the women's team could win every game for the next 10 years and it wouldn't give me even the smallest crumb of comfort you could imagine after a performance and doing like that.

Graham Jones

The managers held his hands up on this one. He was boiling with anger at the press conference, that much was clear. He will get the blame for it all, but we wont move forward again until we accept the boards part in all this, and in particular, Ross Wilson. We all knew that more investment was needed, not a rake through the bargain bins at the charity shop. You don’t do that and exist in the Champions League, it’s that simple. The players need to take a good look at themselves, but there we’re reasons beyond management that laid the grounds for that collapse. Nut, as I say, the manager will have to take the blame, because that’s why he was installed. And all this in our 150th year, when we should be celebrating. Still, we have that big shiny building to go to next to Ibrox.

Andy Gray

Great song choice. Gallows humour never leaves us.

Spoon

Agree, he was just flailing wildly at some stuff like he was fighting the ball. The man’s an amazing siege goal keeper but his distribution last night cost at least a few goals just by playing us into danger.

David

We ain't a west brom or Sheffield Utd, we are Glasgow Rangers and managers will always want to join a club our size.

Steve Watson

100% spot on with the Gio and big Eck comparison

Gary Brown

Thanks David & Andy for the update and picking through the scraps of last night. Liverpool are a class above us, more than one class. Liverpool are a class, or more, above most teams in the EPL & Europe. That is the harsh reality. I've not watched it back, yet. But I will, probably more than once to actually analyse the football. I posted on the post presser thread last night; #1 our players chucked it #2 they had the nitro boost from 3 ultimate world class players they introduced. Was it #1 then #2? or #2 leading to #1? It's fine shouting about the players 'chucking it' - anyone who left Ibrox before FT chucked it too. I felt pretty lonely at the end! Someone else posted Gio's remit for this season. League title, CL Qualification & £, one or both Cups a bonus. Currently2 pts off top with 75% of games to play, achieved (despite the odds), still in both.

Andrew Hind

Anyone else get the feeling King will be next to be injured

Andrew Whiteside

Last night was tough to watch but if it brings serious change from the club then it will be worth it. I want to hear from the club directors on where they want to take the club. Do they want a team that will at least be competitive at this level? If so what is the plan to get to that level? And how long do they think it will take? What level of turnover do we need to sustain the level and can they explain in detail where they are on this?

Paul Kerr

No doubt the board will have done their usual and given van Bronkhorst some kind of compensation clause that would bankrupt a small country.

KMS

Lou Reed... Lennon... Unlistenable noise!, I thought of listening to Lennons 'Life with the Lions' album to cheer myself up listening to the final heartbeats of John & Yoko's miscarried baby. That's how low I am feeling today, and going forward

John Breen

I blame the board. He wasn’t backed and wasn’t given money after we made the champions league. He had no option to say he was happy with the squad. A few players need to be moved on quickly starting with our most expensive current squad member in Kent. Not interested one bit and should be running through a brick wall for Rangers saving his career

Allan Rutherford

On the subject of music, if you’re absolutely fizzing stick ….and Justice For All by Metallica on. It’ll help expel a lot of anger.

chris smith

The club is dysfunctional pretty much from top to bottom. This board cant take us forward. Their primary goal is to make the club self-financing. This entails following certain policies in terms of commercial stuff and the football department - playing style and recruitment. And finally we have a manager who isnt the right fit, playing poor tactics with a team that appears to have no faith in him. Every level of the club needs addressing … all at the same time. The problem is that the board wont sack themselves and Wilson is their man, while the players cant all be punted.

Mr J K Murray

do not buy this difference in class v Liverpool, gap in monies in terms of the ologies this produces,i , we have the same support as them, no one knows our finances ect HMRC,how many fans watch rtv worldwide ect, no proper updates on injuries, total lack of engagement for the wanna know fan, my sister married a tim-so surprised Rangers are where they are,i, its the manner of our club lack of employment of manager that can take on this big ship, every season ends in a mess in the league, cannot even play CL football, no goal scorer in a final, got to shoot the messenger, players, coaching & manager need replacing, its result you do not get up from,Connor is 29yrs old,Ben Davies only played one half games till last night because he was bought with injuries, add the height of the Liverpool players, having more leg space to travel, itsa pint size who mocks us, hic

Billy Forrester

I left at 80 mins cause couldn’t stand watching that shameful and gutless collapse anymore, I didn’t chuck it, I just couldn’t stand there and watch them spineless clueless clowns for a minute longer, but fair play if u stayed to end, doesn’t make you any more or less of a supporter my friend as we all have a tolerance level and mine was reached at the point I left, simple

Billy Forrester

There are teams of lesser ilk or similar to us with same or similar resources who haven’t got zero points and a minus 15 goal difference, we are gonna make history this year so you tell me how that is? Yes there’s a huge gap, yes we can’t compete with finances but we can surely show some discipline, some pride and fight and some resolve on the park to ensure we don’t get humiliated at home like we did last night. No, we rolled over like a fat puppy full of milk and we lost our heads and basically gave up. That is unacceptable for a Rangers team

Jim Milne

The Big Eck & Gio comparison is fair and accurate. Gio has through the Europa run raised more income than any other manager ever. I'd say he has every right to feel aggrieved that funds raised hasn't meant bigger spending. That and the optics that it seems he has little say in transfers, while the board and RW play Moneyball with every transfer. If Gio had this team playing attractive football the anger would only be at the board & RW. He's a good human being but not a Rangers manager. He used us as a stepping stone as a player and from the minute he signed as manager I sensed the same. Comments after PSV make me feel he knows it's only a matter of time, but no manager resigns anymore and walk away from a payoff. Right now winning 55, then a Europa final, selling Bassey, Patterson and Gerrard compensation, making champions league, the money from tickets and being 2 points the board will look at this as astronomical success. Until fans stop plowing in the money we do the board won't see a problem with 7-1 defeats if they are getting £20m at the same time.

Richie

I think it's now clear that Gio survives but I certainly hope they are putting in place a contingency plan to replace (which is made difficult when most also want rid of RW) before the shut down for the WC if things in the league go bottoms up. In my mind Gio has the next 3 games to get things sorted (Motherwell (A), Dundee (H) and Livingstone (H) all MUST win games but with the current injury list it's going to be challenging if Goldson, Davies and Jack are all out them his selection options are dire. It's a good run of games to give young McCrorie a go and for these 3 games I'd pull Lundstram back beside King (and also make him Captain) McCrorie (GK), Tav, Lundstram (C), King, Barisic, Tillman, Davis, Sands Sakala, Colak, Matondo Midweek v Dundee Devine for Tav, Ridvan for Barisic and Morelos for Sakala. Unfortunately, I've got Kent in the 'sign or be gone' category on his game I love him but of all the players he's the one that's really gone backwards

Craig McCrimmon

In my opinion I can't understand why fans don't like Gio? The comparison with Eck is accurate but I again don't get it. For me big Eck was associated with Aberdeen and as a result when things went bad there was no historical loyalty there so the knives were out quickly.... 55 was huge but it looks increasingly like a fluke for this board and squad Celtic a shambles, no crowds for the Barasic's of the world to bottle it in feels like a perfect storm and very much an outlier for Gerrard.... We won 1 trophy in 3 years and by God I appreciate it hugely but it's the past ...... Gerrard was backed by the board in a way Gio hasn't been..... Gio has been forced to sell Gerrard was allowed to retain players..... Gio has had to sit and watch key players run down there contract's, sell players at huge profits while no investment in return....... Every player we were linked with that feels like it would have been a van Bronckhorst signing has slipped the net..... The board have failed him and us......... He is swimming against the tide and in my opinion over achieving due to the lack of backing he's had ......... It's my honest opinion that unless there is a shift in the board room well continue to drift......
