Fresh on the back of our Champions League humiliation and capitulation against Liverpool it's back to the bread and butter of the league with a trip to Lanarkshire.

For Park is the venue as Motherwell host us, in a game that is a must win for more reasons than points alone.

Alex, Steven and Kevin present The Preview.

Kevin, you're a great believer in " fans aren't stupid". My mantra is " Managers know nothing". It aint rocket science.. but they like to pretend it is. Keeping over-the-hill guys like Arfield, McGregor and Davis was criminal. Playing hide-and-seek Kent is madness. NOT playing a £5 million guy in Yilmaz unbelievable. Plus letting Katic and Balogun go to rely on injury-plagued Helander and Souttar is hard to take. Shambles of management decisions.

James McKenzie

Some interesting comments from everyone, as always. After Anfield a lot of fans were saying, why didn't we have a go? Now, it's why did we have a go? With hindsight, maybe at 1-0 Sands could have came on for a back 5, but imagine the criticism for making a sub so early. I think reviewing the managers position before the world cup & transfer window just isn't going to happen and I think it's right to persist with what we have. My feeling is that it won't ultimately pay off, but that's owing largely to Celtic's current relative strength.

Pedro

The subs were indefensible yet not shocked to hear them being defended. The difference between 3-1 and 7-1 is something still worth fighting for.

Scott Tolmie

Fella talking about Gio is spot on, we all know we will win nothing, he’s made players worse and players want away from him.

Aatlis

Sorry Alex, I mean no offense but your optimism and defence of that team/Manager grates on me. I want to be even handed but I just can't. Good effort all of you even doing the show. I'm still reeling and just can't see this group/Manager winning the league. Going to be a long season.

Gordon Black

I'm with Alex on all his points...

Heart and Hand

I can understand people disagreeing with Alex’s views - I often do - but I can’t understand people who get angry just because someone thinks a bit differently to them. I like to listen to different viewpoints. It’s why we have so many contributors. Alex is one of our best.

Tom Smith

That's the angriest I've heard Steven. 🙈

Rick Roberts

Great points made all round, always an interesting listen. I agree we can't be changing managers every season. I'm also happy if standards are higher than previous era - I want them to stay there. I'm not sure the GVB experience suggests the same ambition, commitment as Gerrard.

Ally Mair

Agree , we all have different opinions on how we see things but Alex has a very rational and sensible approach to things , we all have different levels we have to reach before we get annoyed but it’s unfair to say his optimism grates on you , negativity is never a wanted trate

Garry kirkwood

I think a lot of people will see what tav gives us if/when he goes.

Aatlis

Sorry if being irritated by another person's opinion has offended anyone. It was not my intention. I'll keep my opinions to myself in future. 🤣

David Kiltie

Steve and Kev see Gio’s departure as a done deal but Strider rebuts that we are not traditionally a trigger-happy club. If we look at other clubs in Scotland we often see frequent managerial changes not reflected by any major long term progress. The question re a slip in standards. At least we are in the Champions League, albeit doing abysmally. Many far more talented Rangers teams in the past failed to get this far. Other far better Rangers teams did similarly poorly in groups despite being very better resourced that many of the other teams in the group. We have been in a European final only a few months ago - something achieved only 5 times in the club’s history. The fruit of our youth development a generation ago was selling a youngster to Dunfermline for £100k. This year we sold a youth product to an EPL club for £12m plus and we worry about EPL teams sniffing round our Academy players. Of course the mood is going to be gloomy after Wednesday’s horror show but the “big picture” (excuse the cliche) is a mixture of good and bad. After the disaster at their midden 6 weeks ago it was widely predicted that the league race would be dead already. With reference to the recent spate of injuries, the knee jerk reaction is to blame the club’s training or treatment, bearing in mind Rangers’ experience with injuries in the past. As Strider points out, prior to Wednesday Goldson had missed literally zero games through injury in over 4 years at Ibrox. Similarly Alfie prior to March had hardly missed a game through injury in nearly 5 years (disciplinary issues a different matter!). As I understand it Lawrence hardly ever missed games at Derby. These injuries can be put down to bad luck. Lowry would be involved in the first team at present but for that horrible tackle. We just need to get results by hook or by crook over the next 4 weeks, then we have the chance to reset during the World Cup.

Craig

I just can't agree that we should take the game in isolation when we've seen the exact same total collapse half a dozen times now. It's a pattern, a quick one-two from a good attacking side and they completely lose their heads.

Bruce Melrose

Really interesting discussion, I'm pretty much in agreement with everything Alex is saying. Absolutely raging about getting pumped during the week but sacking Gio when we've had horrendous injury issues, basically since he arrived and only a few points behind in the league would be crazy. Winning the league with Gio might not be a certainty but losing it probably would be with the upheaval of sacking him and his team....

Pondo Sinatra

Cracking listen! 👏 Enjoyed the differing viewpoints which, to be honest, all had merit! 🇬🇧

David Forrest

Well done lads. Great insightful pod. Good points. All valid.

John Davidson

I also don't get annoyed by contrary viewpoints but I do understand that others do. In fact, most people do, to some extent, in my experience. Alex is true to himself always and we should cherish that. I wish I could be so positive.

Pedro

Indeed. Just smacks of being positive for the sake of being positive. We have a team that lose the plot easily and get pumped too often.

Cal macleod

Great pod , but a thoroughly depressing listen

Mark

This was the most balanced discussion I have heard on the Gio situation, and while all three of you make great points, that doesn't happen without Alex being there to offer an alternative take.

Alan Y

Very mature discussion. Brilliant analysis as always.

James Fernie

Alex is spot on. I’m not a knee-jerk defender of Gio but a sacking now would be a nonsense. I often don’t agree with the manager’s in game tweaks but he does always try to influence the game. It’s why we reached the Europa League final. As much as I loved Gerrard we don’t make it under him. He would have left the shape exactly the same during that second half v Dortmund at Ibrox and we would have continued to be overrun and we would have went out. Wednesday was sore but it’s not just the CL is a level up, it’s that we’re in by far the toughest group in the whole competition. The only one that compares is the Bayern, Barca, inter group. We would have done ok in any of the other groups. Injuries are a factor particularly if they all come in one area. We’ve had Hagi,Lawrence and Lowry out at the sane time in the same position. We’ve had three of our four first choice centre halves out all season now. The injury to Goldson killed us on Wednesday. It’s toys out the pram stuff in my opinion to say you don’t want to hear it.

Allan

Lots of doom and gloom on the pod .loads of ppl complaining when we got beat 2 -0 at anfield for playing defensive..champions league is a free hit ..until someone comes up with a realistic new managers name am backing gio till the end of the season .where at least 8 players need to go ..hopefully see some of the squad get rotated now half our teams injured. A more attacking midfield would do for starter's

William Alston

Great listen guys, I am leaning more to the gio is gone side although I'm willing to let him have the domestic games to prove me wrong. Even if we end up sacking Gio, we will still have the guy that has allowed the squad to get into the state it's in and the silent chairman, I think those issues need to be addressed first before we think about who's in the dugout, hopefully they hear the frustrations at the AGM.

Christopher Fair

Steven are you sick or is is your voice straining trying to hold in the anger ?😂. Good pod guys, very hard at the moment and the division in the fans is massive so well done in putting your honest opinions out and opening yourself to negativity from others. Very enjoyable debate on the issues as always and thanks for putting it out for me to listen too.

Harold mccartney

Brilliant show lads! I have to say Alex could find the positive in absolutely anything, I tend to agree with both Kevin and Steven regarding the manager but the players are a massive problem as well as there has been to many collapse’s even before Gio came in. So there is definitely a weakness and fragility within that squad that won’t just disappear when the manager eventually goes. Keep up the good work lads.

Scotty

Great discussion lads, great to hear both sides of the argument on a load of issues. I’ve listened twice after reading the comments. I don’t disagree strongly with any of the guys opinions except Kev’s draw prediction 🤣 Great pod as always lads, only time will tell who’s closest to the money. Thanks for your time 🔴⚪️🔵

Too much gnashing of teeth in regards to the Liverpool game remember they horsed man utd 5-0 at Old Trafford in the lastvyear and Bournemouth 9-0 more recently do we really think we're that much better , the reference to Smith and Advocaat isn't fair as the strength of the league was better where there were more draws and more defeats fornthe the top teams and no one really said it ( Steven maybhave skirted round about it ) but we're judged V's that mob who are winning easily by comparison, never really thought about Rogers squad in champions league for them and they never managed to improve season on season like the podders have all agreed FC Brugge have done , maybe it's not possible in Scotland in the champions lge but possible in the Europa lge

Scott Watson

How do the excellent responses to losing goals, against the run of play, against Dortmund, Braga, Celtic semi-final, Leipzig fit into that pattern? We didn't collapse on any of those occasions Granted they were all last season...

Graeme Price

One of the best Preview pods actually, real debate and excellent points all around. Can we get the team and Gio to listen to it please? Look there are issues with our club, but worse managers have won titles and that's what will determine his extended stay ultimately because it's about capital and getting back to the CL again next year. Yes we're papering the cracks over with talent and depth is straining under the weight of injuries which should have been addressed in transfer windows. However when he actually tried to do something pragmatic which was defend against Liverpool at Anfield all you heard were complaints, how shit Liverpool is etc. So then we come out against them and yes for a little while fools gold is in sight, but then the inevitable happens. I'd chuck it too if you're running around in your own half chasing shadows and he brings on forward players. Why Sands didn't come on is the wrong message as a manager to the team. He hasn't lost the dressing room but the sheen has worn off and unless he can react to this defeat more than anyone else at the club, it's only a matter of time before players start looking to make their exit. I don't know if Motherwell is where we drop points, am more worried about a stupid loss to Dundee in the cup overshadowing any positivity from league performances. Anyway, thanks again I only stayed to the end coz am at work waiting for the game to start anyhow 😂

Craig

It's a different set of circumstances. The collapses come when an opponent is swarming them, and the players seem to accept that as soon as they go behind then defeat is inevitable. They seem to respond better to sucker punches, but I expect it's only a matter of time before the two bleed together.

George Higgins

Steven’s analysis of the Liverpool game is spot on are as his solutions. Well done. Total rid out needed starting with some board members down to players.

George Harrison

I agree with most of what Steven said. All I heard from Alex was excuse after excuse for a shambolic and embarrassing last 30 minutes in which we lost 6 goals … regardless of the gulf in quantity, no Rangers team should collapse in that manner, and the manager / captain must take a huge amount of responsibility for that.

Spoon

Listened to Stevens opening and just switched off, bored of the constant negativity and unrealistic expectations. Yes there are issues but some of the fans hot takes are wild and just don’t drill into the underlying issues, for me if you think changing the manager solves any of what’s going on (and your not going to drop in £50 million to revamp squad) your delusional. Investment, injuries, signing policy, leadership from board etc, player professionalism etc all need resolved urgently, the reality is some people didn’t fancy Gio and everything that happens is now pinned on him. He’s far from perfect but some realism needed.

@bluebeans

I can put a foot in both camps here, there is a danger of knee jerk if this is based on champions league results alone however there are broader issues. Our best players aren’t responding to Gio imo, Alfredo, Kent, Kamara right off the bat. Equally I cannot get my head around what he done midweek….4-1 now? Aye put those 3 on anyway and I’ll sit in there for the next 20 minutes. It was shocking, I sit right behind dugouts, trust me that’s what happened. No presence, no instruction, no changes…..no idea ???

Ricky Burns

Agree with All the comments even Alex optimism especially needing a player with dig hate to say it right dirty bastard like portious of hibs we don't have a bommer brown in this team
