In the first episode of a new tactics mini-series, Ally Bain walks us through the various choices coaches can make when building their football methodology.

We then discuss the four phases of play in football, focussing on the different ways teams can attack and try to relate that to what we perceive to be Van Bronckhorsts attaching approach.

Next weeks episode will cover the remaining three phases: Transition to defence, Defending and Transition to attack.
