1. Pay Gio off. 2.New Manager - Marcelo Gallardo (never happen). Give Kent a new deal. Not to Morelos. Only player I think we could get decent money for would be King and that's based on potential. Realistically, Kamara and Barisic are probably the only players we'll get money for. 3.Stadium upgrades. 4. Stick with the current Board. 5. Don't think it will be his last game. Thanks for another excellent show.

John Smith

Yeah, I’m having doubts now about setting up my Robbie Neilson for Rangers petition 😅

Pedro

Good pod. Spot on about the lethargy and inevitable departure of Gio. There has been zero reaction to terrible performances or results under him this season. It will simply get worse and the gap bigger if we stick with him. Surely nobody thinks that's viable. Nice one lads.

John Smith

I think the closest to a big Eck type right now would be Martindale

Pondo Sinatra

Haste ye back, lads! 👏🇬🇧

1 Gio stays unless someone’s comes up with an upgrade, havent heard a single name that inspires and don’t subscribe to the ‘it’s not up to me to pick the new guy but it totally is up to me to hound the current guy out mentality of some’ 2 The current trend is ‘based on what’s happened to date there’s no indication there will be improvement’ that ethos should rule out most of the popular names being touted as they have no track record of either good football, success in Scotland or being winners, Dyche, Martindale etc are names that give me the fear. 3 Get rid of both one has flattered to deceive his entire here bar flashes but cost us a fortune and based on his career will never be prolific the other has been ill disciplined, unfit and in the huff more bar about 12 golden months. Suspect neither gets you any money back and that probably tells its own story as they are not in demand. Clear dead wood like Kamara, Helander,Roofe, Arfield, Davis etc if an option but obviously there a squad level in terms of bodies to maintain. Basically nobody currently at the club bar maybe Davies or Goldson would be someone I would see as must keep, literally any player could go if we got an offer to change squad dynamic. Any money goes to manager for new blood. 4 Current board have put club onto a phenomenal footing using their own money to boost us beyond where we could have expected. No interest in the sugar daddie model that some seem to want to go with. 5. Won’t be his last game A pod that very much needed Alexs balance, could see what’re Steven was coming from at points but unfortunately just didn’t get where Kev was coming from at all bar he never liked Gio, which I got loud and clear. Don’t think Kev was at all unreasonable and I hear what he was saying in terms of reasoning I just don’t view his version of the ‘facts’ the way he does, he’s absolutely entitled to see it that way though. Won’t say I enjoyed the pod but it was food for thought and I appreciate the efforts to change it up a bit with the questions. Like it or lump it you guys are always essential listening!

It’s all good relevant stuff Stevie and there’s never a show goes by that doesn’t make me have a rethink, as things polarise though you can tell folk are more and more entrenched, at least on here it’s mostly civil ! Stick in 👍🏻

Martin Davies

On Morelos and Kent We should be viewing them in exactly the same way as every other player available on a Bosman thus summer. Their transfer value just now is zero. Sign a new deal, and they have a value. But the same applies to every other available Bosman. So the question is - are they value for money considering they'll want a signing on fee and probably £30k/week. I say we can do better for the money.

Gregg

We have been trying to sign a Ryan Kent type player since we signed Ryan Kent - so far we are 0 for about 6. Careful what you wish for

Martin Davies

Fair comment Gregg I've been a huge fan of both Morelos and Kent since they signed, but I have just lost patience with both this season. They are just too inconsistent, too many lows.

David A

Gio deserves a full season and without Alex these previews are no more than a Gio witch-hunt

Kev Armstrong

I agree. We miss his balance when he isn’t here. I might not agree with his views but love hearing them.

Scott Watson

If bosmans of that quality were that easy to come by, we'd surely not have the right wing roulette we currently do

Angus Mackay

Exactly right, Gregg. Despite him being well of what he can be, Kent's output numbers are still strong. He is a million miles away from being our biggest problem. If we lose him for nothing in the summer it will be a heavy setback.

Angus Mackay

See when people are throwing around the accusation that players don't improve under this manager, how hard is it to ignore the fact that he turned a rough young squad full back into a £20m centre half in only six months?

Graeme Robb

Love the preview! Thanks guys for the efforts I never miss it

andrew mitchell

Sshhh they don’t want to hear reasoned defence of the manager .. disgusting pile on from so called fan media

Cameron Bell

Can I ask Andrew where you see what direction Gio is trying to take us in, and what consistent improvements you’ve seen since Seville?

Steven Harrigan

That looks the outlier. He did a wonderful job with that but 26 points dropped in a year tells a whole other story. What about his handing of other players?, and I would ask is he getting all he can from this group?. Thanks for the opinion. Appreciated it, even if I disagree.

Gary Morris

I think we have many more sellable assets than just Leon King. Kamara is the obvious one, but you could flip Alfie in January for some cash (granted not huge but even the wage bill saving wouldn’t be insignificant- same for Kent although I’d like us to try retain him). You also have the likes of Sakala (signed for 0, offered 3m from Burnley and knocked back) who would turn profit. Same for Lundstram , McCann, Lovelace, Scott Wright. Not everyone will be a 20m profit like Bassey but would all add up.

Martin Davies

Good points Scott and Angus On Kent specifically, I've defended him to the hilt when criticism has come his way for the lack of goals and assists, because his disruption would allow the space for others to get the stat. How often was he the 2nd to last pass before a goal? Also, his workrate going back was unquestionable. But there has been a significant drop off in both, hence my views that we should cast the net wider rather than be laser focused on getting Kent to re-sign. On Morelos, I've been his #1 fan from day 1 under Pedro. But he certainly tests your patience. Again, similar to Kent, there's much more to Morelos' game than goals, and on his day he can occupy a back 4 like I've never seen before in a Rangers striker. However, he is a patchy, streaky player. And almost without fail each season, his attitude is called into question. I'm not sure we'll ever see him hit the heights of 2019 again. For £30k+ per week, I'd be looking for someone with greater consistency and reliability throughout a season. Making decisions like this is why Wilson and Gio are paid the big bucks. We failed to freshen the side in summer 2021, and although it would have been unpopular with the support, we should have sold 1 or 2 of our prized assets. To some extent, we have the same call with Kent and Morelos - have we seen the best of them, and should we be looking for players on the up rather than retaining players potentially on the slide?

andrew mitchell

he is obviously trying to get the team to play winning football, like everybody else i can see its not going in the direction we would all like but there are circumstances . ie lack of finances ,a strong celtic that spent a fortune in Scottish terms and horrendous luck with injuries , I don't know whether he can turn it round but I feel he should be given a fair crack .not told to get to fuck . the pile on from social media is disgusting , its a time to knuckle down and support the manager and team to help them get through this very difficult period

Douglas Innes

Only thing In GVBs defence is I don't think he's ever had a fully fit squad to pick from or indeed a clean slate to build his own squad like what the other lot gave the Aussie , I feel Kent just isn't worth the outlay and now its went from " occupying 2 defenders " to " the pass before the final pass " in assists and yet no one is willing to admit for an attacker in the modern game his finishing is criminal. Ps , I'm hardly a GVB fan boy either , I wanted him gone during the livi game , he started with 2 attackers 1 of which doesn't score and he had 4 attackers on the bench , the very definition of giving your opponents too much respect ..... f*ckin Livi

Mark Boyd

Kind of agree there. I love the preview. But this is becoming a witch hunt. Less than 12 months in a job. A cup and a European final and hunting the guy is a joke. That and the fact we’ve sold £40m worth of Players in the last 15 months. You have to allow the guy to get some players back. Particularly Hagi, roofe, Lawrence because our problem is final third creation. That just comes down to players of ability, always has been. That’s why they’re called difference makers

Martin Davies

We say the players have the ability but just need to be more consistent. If you think about it, every one playing football from Sunday League to the Champions League is capable of a moment. That perfect pass, brilliant finish, superb tackle, etc. The difference is that Sunday league players might do it once or twice per season. Champions League players do it multiple times each and every game. The better the player, the more regularity they make the right decision and nail the execution. Our players are capable of moments. But they don't do it often enough. They make the wrong call too often, and our execution is also often erratic. All of which indicates the players are maybe not as good as we think they are. A better quality of player delivers more often than not.

Scott Watson

Thank you gentlemen, excellent and thought-provoking talking points as always I'm probably still just about in the "give him a full season to be judged" camp but it's clearly increasingly a position that's mostly justified by giving benefit of the doubt that various external factors have prevented a clear demonstration of the process he is trying to build I've gone for a 2-0 win

Scott Watson

I find the "It's not my job to know who should take over, therefore there must be someone (available) who would do better" line of argument quite strange too. Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying that means there ISN'T anyone we could get who would be better either. It's just the notion that there's no discussion to be had doesn't make sense to me As in many areas of life, the question is usually not really "Is this good or bad?" but "How do we do better?" There may come a certain point where "better" literally just means "different" so we escape the cycle, at least temporarily. I'm not at that point yet

andrew mitchell

since seville we can all see the teams regressed but got take his whole managerial period into account , I think he should get the opportunity to invest in the squad seeing as it was him that helped get the riches of the europa league run ,20 mill for Bassey and champions league qualification , any manager coming in now will have great opportunity to improve the squad due to those relative successes and the finances they have brought this is , the summer recruitment has been decent with the exceptions of matondo ,shouldn't have gone near souttar but I believe he was on the radar pre gio, this squad is suffering from 3-4 years of poor recruitment not least due to a lack of finances imo

Douglas Innes

I see GVB getting a lot of flak for the downturn in players performances but surely it can't be all on him ? Surely players have to look inward when they aren't performing

Spoon

There’s a theory that if feedback can’t be actioned then it’s just criticism, I think this is a bit like that. I can get on board with someone saying this situation isn’t working, here are some options to fix it but I can’t get on board with those who simply want to burn things to the ground and damn the consequences, that’s naive and juvenile. Not that I am saying Stevie said that, more in general.

Douglas Innes

Like I've said on other casts I wanted him gone 20 mins into livi game only because he started with 2 attackers of which 1 doesn't score , changing the manager on its own won't change players performances, our recruitment is looking worse every game and that's on all the board and management...... If we pay off the manager and his staff id think there'd be very little for the new guy coming in to start making " his " changes
