To escape the doom and gloom clouds around Ibrox, Hoggy is looking for World Cup memories with the start of the "Greatest Shows on Earth" (debatable) only one day away - he will be asking for more so get thinking and get on the show!

Duncan Wright shares his memories up to 1998 and Grant Sneddon from 2002 onwards.

Hope you enjoy - and remember, this is YOUR show.  Get involved!  Email Hoggy at hoggy@heartandhand.co.uk.

Thoroughly enjoyed that Hoggy. We lost my father in Law on Sunday so this definitely helped with what has been a very difficult week. Cheers

Enjoyed that trip down memory lane, I still have my completed Mexico 86 and Italia 90 pannini sticker albums

Gordon Watson

Davie Cooper playing his part in qualification for Mexico 86 against Wales and Australia. I think he only got a handful of minutes at the finals against West Germany and Uruguay? Mo Johnston’s scoring sequence in qualifiers for Italia 90, his goal against Sweden and the fact he could’ve scored a hat trick against Costa Rica. I also remember Richard Gough’s two headers against Costa Rica - the lay off for one of Johnston’s shots and another he smashed over the crossbar from a corner or freekick.

I have a feeling we might see better games in this World Cup due to the fact that we’re only 3 months into the season and there’s been no 5 week break (which happens normally with summer tournaments)..therefore all the players will be at peak sharpness and fitness whereas usually the first few games usually feel like training games due to not playing for 4/5 weeks…Good show and for what it’s worth, nothing will beat Italia 90 😃

Enjoyed the show. I'm a bit older so was brought up with the home internationals and watching Scotland at world cups from 74 onwards so was definitely in the anybody but England camp especially after I moved to live in London in 95 .

Hoggy

Mate. I’m so sorry for your loss. You know where to find me via email - please reach out. Good to talk.

Hoggy

I loved it. Would like to do more of these over the next five weeks!

I was in France in 98 at and got into the morroco game but I honestly think that's the last world cup I've really watched and don't see me tuning into this one much.

Loved the comments about first World Cup memories and the 10-13 year olds. My young fella will be 11 when 2026 is on and with it being in a civilised part of the world. Savings fund has well and truely started.

Some cracking memories there. Expansion of modern tournaments to 32 teams with not really having additional european places has allowed more RoW nations particularly from asia and africa to compete henxe the likes of Togo etc. Also Oceana having NZ in 2010. 2006 was the best world cup IMHO (I'm 40 so first in memory was 90). 2006 had the best team goal (Argentina over 40 passes) superb solo goal, superb wonderstirkes and the best opening game with the hosts 4-2 victory. 2014 being a close second in the best tournaments category. 98 and 18 pretty good competitions. 2002 was ruined with the early KOs and 2010 those annoying f***ing vuvuzeula things. Hopefully David (Edgar) is correct when he said mis season may give us a better standard of football with players being in good physical condition and not half dead from the sheer number of games that they are expected to play in a season.
