I've spoken to many Rangers supporters who watched that team on a regular basis and almost to a man they rate Woodburn as the finest CH they had seen, not only as Ranger but simply as a CH. He was my dad's favourite player and the only player he ever mentioned in the same breath was Franco Baresi of AC Milan. I remember reading an article by Hugh McIlvanney, the late great journalist who reckoned Woodburn to be the finest CH he'd ever seen. Not just, McIvanney but Hugh Taylor, who used to write the Scottish Football book which came out annually who opined in 1970, that had Woodburn still being playing he would've been recognised the world over as the finest CH in the world.

Great episode again. Will you be doing one on my Grandpa Willie Thornton?

Gregg

How can you buy mrs thornton’s wee son, you must have some brilliant stories Colin should get you on the show.

David Herd

My old man was in absolutely no doubt that Willie Woodburn was the best centre half he ever watched.

James Martin

I tried to get Willie’s autograph, outside Ibrox, before a European game, he had retired at the time, I think we were playing Nice or St. Etienne , he told me to go and get the player’s that were , playing. Good memories.

Its always a joy to listen to Mr Leggat, learn some more club history and get to know a little bit about the character & personality of these legendary Rangers men. Thanks for this series.
