We've had some players over the years that I didn't want at the club, but I tell you what. Porteus might be the worst of all. He better not be a target, fucking ridiculous scumbag.

Andrew Hillis

Oh good grief David - please no to Porteous! 🤬 what a zoomer of a human being and a bang average footballer!

Stuart Leitner

Over 20 years since I heard that song , I get more forgotten classics on here than I do in music podcasts. Added to my playlist

Brian Moore

The last thing we need is a guy like Porteous with his on field and off field antics. The SMSM would be lapping it up. It’s a huge NO for me!!!!!!

Rick Swan

The need to boost the Scottish contingent is a real one. That we may be interested in signing Porteous is a reflection of the dearth of Scottish talent who may be available.

WILLIAM JACK

Would have more than a whiff of signing Ian Black for me...but in all fairness that went well.

David Campbell

I'd take Porteous on a free plenty of room for growth. I also think he would be more reliable and robust. For far to long we've spent far to much on players with questionable injury records. His antics on and off the park would need to stop am sure he is aware of that and that's on him. Under this coaching team he will have the opportunity to improve massively and get himself into our starting 11 then subsequently Scotlands. Having said all that if he ends up across the city then as standard he is shite and disregard everything I've just said 😂

James Anderson

If the Porteus rumour is true......I think the support won't take to him... Rather have Katic

Andrew Hind

We don't need that idiot at our club

Ross Whitehead

Porteous is a decent player, and we could improve his game absolutely no doubt. My concern is that he appears to be an absolute roaster, and I think he's maybe too old now to be re-educated and taught how to behave like a decent human being.

Ross Liddell

He glassed a woman at a bowling club and vandalised a memorial, this signing will be up there with Australia! Not even touching on his lack of ability

Ian McHutchison

We need to reasonable about Porteous, we can’t just tell him to fuck off. We need to hire a plane and fly the message over Leith. I was right about Ian Black and I’m right about this. For added emphasis this is a FACT, I was told by a man in a pub and a taxi driver he is a bell end.

Adam Copeland

If Porteous comes in trains well and plays well then I really don't see an issue. Can't exactly say we've never had any controversial players in the past. If he doesn't come then so be it. These stories are coming from Scottish MSM and random Twitter accounts so why does everyone all of a sudden take it as gospel. I think he will be going South anyway.

Gregg

One good game for Scotland - when they were camped in - has folk fanny dazzled. Porteus can get to - he’s not good enough and he’s nearly 24, not 19.

Craig Hart

☝🏻 Does that count as a 4th category? 😂

stefan strzelecki

Being optimistic, porteous can play out from the back, knows how to head a football, has good athletic ability , and can really win duals in games with tenacious tackles. I’m not condoning brutality traits. To be honest we are limited with the number of combative defenders at our disposal. These qualities are important in European and high profile games . I’m open minded to it for these reasons. Through upcoming UEFA rules on having a quantum home based players . It would be a reasonable signing to consider.

David P

I don't think we'll sign Porteous. From what I remember of Gerrard's time at the club he hated him. Don't think it's much of a stretch to imagine that Beale has the same opinion of him. If Beale wants him he'll get my backing. If someone can get the best out of the guy and make him into a decent human being it's Beale.

Callum Dinnen

Porteous is a cunt, but players like him are reasonably fun when they play for your club - he'd be an instant cult hero if he spent January 2nd smashing his way through Celtic's forward line. My issue with him is that he's not very good. I've lost count of the amount of stupid errors he's made in games against us that have cost Hibs goals, and that's in big games where in theory his concentration levels should be at their sharpest. He's not better than Helander, Goldson, Davies or Souttar, and would be a major obstacle in King's path - he'd be an utterly pointless signing. We might as well kiss goodbye to promising youngsters in our own youth system if we're going to blow up the development pathway by signing guys like Porteous.

David Innes

I rate Porteous as a player - from what I’ve seen he certainly has the potential to be a better option than Souttar but I just can’t see the signing working out. Given his considerable baggage he would need to be hit the ground running or the majority of fans would turn against him very quickly. Would be astonished if it happens

Dougie Jones

Porteous doing what he does for Hibs? Young, daft but great to see the passion. Porteous doing what he does for us? Young, daft - banish him from the game!! We all know that's how it would go.

Al-WATP

I absolutely and completely accept the view that Porteous is a prick, because, from the 4 games a season we have seen of him over the last few years he is without doubt a total prick. And some of his challenges, particularly against our players have been very poor, and he wouldn’t get away with those had he been wearing the Royal Blue. BUT at the end of the day, I want to see our team and squad continuously improve and I think he is a very solid young defender with a lot of potential and I genuinely think under Beale, who can sort his head out and develop him, he could come on really well . A couple of guys at work are Hibs fans who, to be honest, are level headed and they say under the right manager, this guy could be a brilliant player . Yes a prick but someone to take gamble on for free or cheap, I say yes.

Douglas Innes

4th option in regards to porteous ..... is it April 1st already ??

Graham Jones

We’re being prepared for another cheap player in January. Nothing wrong with a bargain, but this is an odd one given he has no on-field discipline. We’ll end up paying for him to sit in the stand from all the bans he’ll serve as a Rangers player. We all know what the authorities are like in this country, and they’ll take great delight in handing down ban after ban. However, it seems the club have settled on this, because it feels like a Wilson move.

Gordon Watson

Have experience as an administrator with Auckland City FC playing and beating ES Setif at the FIFA Club World Cup in 2014. They were decent but couldn’t hit the side of a bean door that night but had one or two very good technical players. Hard to read the standard of African club football from season to season but their pedigree in Algeria and continental competition is generally excellent.

David Pollock

Having thought about Porteous signing for the appropriate amount of time (0.1 second) it's a no from me.

Rod

Porteous can just get so far to fuck.

Dougie Jones

We can all have an opinion in advance and I've given mine above but he won't be the first 'troublesome' player we've signed and many of those have gone on to be club legends so who knows. But as you allude to, I do trust Beale on this.

John Davidson

We do need to add homegrown players for the European squad and we know that cash is tight so Bosmans are obviously appealing to the board. If Porteous signs - which I doubt - it says a lot about his confidence to make it given the hostility of our support towards him and the likely backlash from Hibs. I've never been impressed by him but we would at least have to admire his cajones.

Al-WATP

Hi Dougie - I completely agree with your earlier comment and as I said, I’m definitely not a Porteous fan as such and my opinion on him will only change if he signs for us !😂 but there have been a few times recently where we have missed out on signing good players or players with potential in our league (yes I know in general the quality is poor). If he was under contract and they wanted say 2-3m i wouldn’t want us to pay that. But if he’s free or available for a notional sum in January then im ok with that. And if he did sign I think it’s safe to say he’d end up playing more minutes than Souttar!

Ryan Stewart

Don’t think it will happen but I wouldn’t be against signing Porteous. I get a lot of people think he’s a wanker, which is maybe correct but I do think that off the back of that people tend to just say he’s a terrible player which just isn’t the case imo. There’s also a bit of snobbery towards players from other SPFL teams at times. In terms of home grown players who are realistic and affordable I’m struggling to think of anyone really. So unless we want to keep Arfield, Jack, McGregor for another season we are going to have to sign Scottish players and I think Porteous would be a good option. 23/24 which is still young enough for a CB, would back Beale and his team to improve him a fair bit as well in terms of positioning and consistency. Granted it was only 1 game but he showed for Scotland against Ukraine the type of performance he is capable of when he is fully focused.

Raymond Paxton

A strong no for me on Porteous, I also just read he has had 2 bad knee injuries and operations on a knee with a long spell out.So an even stronger no for me.
