Hoggy is joined by gorgeous Andy McGowan as they continue to talk Michael Beale as the new manager, the next two transfer windows and (of course) finances.

They also cover the questions at this year's AGM and ask "you have 15 questions and you genuinely asked that?"

Cracking Pod chaps, I don’t want to see the club spend recklessly. The board seem to be about gradual and sustainable progress but I want to see us reach for the next wrung on that ladder. Interesting to see what they do now we have reached the revenue levels we are at.

Lee Colvin

Good show lads and some good points raised.I admire Andys optimism but it's frustrating that we have took too many punts on squad players in the last few years, now is the time to actually get players that are starters in the team.

Andy McGowan

Yeah I am far too optimistic! The next 2 years will dictate Wilson's overall assessment for me, I think that role, regardless of who it actually is and what club it is with, requires 5 years.

Lee Colvin

I would agree with that Andy, the question is do we as a support have 5 years of patience?

Alan Weir

Andy McGowan represents a huge part of the Rangers support and brings sense and logic to his assessments. He mentions King, a player who lots of people cried out for and then gets deemed “not Rangers class” after some easily predictable mistakes. We need to give youngsters a proper chance, not sit waiting for their first error with the pitchforks at the ready. Social media (we’re talking FF here😁) is really a world unto itself.

Gregg

Do we as a support have daddy issues - we seem to want a Murray figure and any sign of a takeover, however tenuous, sees folk creaming themselves. See also managerial links - always after a Souness or Walter. Would even suggest it with our desire for the re-incarnation of Terry butcher as captain

Gregg McKee

Andy things aren’t going well at all. We are 20 points behind them in the calendar year. They are miles ahead of us. The manager needs to be a miracle worker to close that gap as we are significantly worse on the field than when he left. Injuries of course play their part but you also need to look at the cost cutting in the medical department in conjunction with assessing those. You also cite the likes of Scoulding leaving - why? There’s cost cutting happening across the club no matter what pish Stewart Robertson spouts at the AGM.

John Walker

Good listen, I have to agree with Andy I don't want a chairman who plays to the gallery and we have to be financially prudent. The AGM"s have been a damp squib for years where nothing really comes out of them .

Gregg McKee

I agree with your points on Leon King. He’s been hung out to dry as he’s had to play in games he’s not ready for. I think he’ll be a top player for us. But let’s not kid ourselves that the plan all along was to have the guys like him, Lowry & McCann playing regularly this season which was the line coming out of the club about a month ahead of Gio’s departure. If they came out and said this in the summer fair enough - and then the manager gets some slack when he does play them. But the signings of Souttar and in particular Davies mean that King wasn’t going to play much. The signing of Tillman means that he would play before Lowry. It’s complete nonsense from the club to trot that like out in October and was just to mask the failings in recruitment from the summer.

Andy McGowan

In all seriousness you'll need to fill me in with the specifics on that cost cutting because that is the exact opposite of everything I see in the accounts, from staff numbers, football and non-football wages, capital expenditure - everything points to maximisation as opposed to cost cutting. If the cost cutting is based on just hearsay, rumour or presumption then what the accounts tells me trumps that, with all due respect. And since when did we start counting points in calendar years?! What is it over the last 3 or 4 calendar years of we take 55 in to the equation? 🤔

Andy McGowan

AGMs will never see any major change, they could be used to send a message to the board but never are. Its a room full of shareholder fans. The only way change is effected is if the support vote with their feet and wallet, that is the acid test poll.

Gregg McKee

Try and ask any players of the standards of analysis, medical care etc are the same as they were when Gerrard left. I don’t really care what a binary figure in the accounts say with no context. For example who replaced Dr Mark Waller? There isn’t a chance that person is on the same money as he was on as one of the most respected club doctors in the country. Off field the club has haemorrhaged staff over the last year. We only just got a head of analysis in as a condition that Beale took the job. It’s a shambles.

Andy McGowan

You're obviously privvy to inside I'm not, it'll be interesting to see if Beale feels the same as he'll be really well placed to compare

Agree with andy regarding that lot. The biggest difference from us and them is they have a footballing identity that we never had so far this season.

JM

Far too much common sense and reality checks on this pod ..

Gio had Yori Bosschart as head analyst, assisted by Graeme Stevenson and Seb Dunne. Another myth was that we had no fitness staff under Gio - Arno Philips took over Jordan Milsom’s position, with Craig Flannigan and Para Polychronopoulos supporting him. Andy Scoulding resigned to take a post at Spurs, which, while it might hurt for us to admit, is a step up football’s food chain. We have John Park as his replacement, a scout who was hugely lauded when he worked with Hibs and then the dark side. I agree that it was right to change manager but some of the claims made about Gio’s tenure are simply not true.

David Kiltie

Hoggy, Andy, well done on what I found a really enjoyable discussion. Two points mentioned - the disabled facilities and Edmiston House development- remind me of Oscar Wylde’s aphorism on the difference between something’s price and its value. The club has a moral obligation to provide decent facilities for disabled supporters. If that means missing out on a player signing then so be it. A key part of Edmiston House will be the club museum - for a club of our history and stature this has been a glaring omission, just as before summer 2001 the absence of a training facility was a blot on the club’s record. We should have a museum regardless of the level of financial benefit. Now that we live in an age where players and don’t usually stay at the same club for long having a living monument to the club’s history strikes me as being all the more important.

Graham Jones

I’m sorry, but I think we’ve not had anyone driving the club forward for over a year now. I’m positive Beale will improve these players, but to expect him to do so with the current board I as asking a lot. He needs help that GvB never got. That doesn’t mean I thought he was doing a good job, because he wasn’t, but the board were the ones who appointed him and they got it wrong. We have a log of people at the club who are very quick at undulating themselves from blame.

Russ

Aye Hoggy I meant building the squad and gearing towards the ucl games as you said, cheers for taking the time lads, great pod.

David

Not a chance does this position get 5 years. There needs to be year on year progress. Not the opposite.
