In October 2014 Rangers suffered a dismal loss to Hibs at Ibrox which removed any doubt about how badly this team was struggling in the Championship. There were a few victories either side but the sense of impending doom grew stronger as Hearts early-season form continued to remain impressive.

Join Dave, David, Stuart and Rob as they continue to chronicle Ally McCoist's spell as Rangers boss.

"hearts will hit a bad patch" what idiots we were

aldo adens

Remember turning to my brother in law during the hibs game and asking what the f'n hell are we watching and how many years behind are we from what we want and expect rangers to be.

Jordan

Yayyyyy I felt in the mood for some depression this morning 🤗 Honestly such a grim time for the club.

Craig Armstrong

Until this game, one of the things I've prided myself on is only ever leaving a game early once and that was only because I forgot I was supposed to be at an evening reception in Edinburgh, but the Hibs game was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I was so enraged by what I was watching that I had to leave at half time before I was kicked out. I didnt go back until after regime change in March and I told myself this was my boycott against the then owners, but if I'm being honest with myself it was incredibly easy not to go as what we were watching was so awful, so boring that I just could be bothered dragging myself to Ibrox or away games that winter. Although we have had difficult times before and since, this for me was the nadir.

Stuart K

That Hibs game was a total shambles. Approached it like an away CL game. Totally baffling. As said, Ally was too cautious with everything and that fear passed down to the players who played like they were terrified to play a forward pass

Gary Brown

Thanks Dave, David, Stuart & Rob for another therapy session. The Ally show is always interesting! I remember throughout the 'spiv' years developing the mindset that no matter the result it was 'over & done' by the time I'd walked back to the car. The answer to the "Is this where we are?" question was quite simply - Yes!

David Innes

At this point I genuinely thought the best we could hope for in the future was to be a bog standard mid table SPL side. The idea that we could win the league again or even get back into Europe was a pipe dream.

Adam Williamson

Saved Scotland from independence? Yeah, being in the U.K. has gone really well since 2014 😂 International laughing stock, lowest GDP in the G20 outside Russia, NHS collapsed, worst COVID death record in Europe, just brilliant. Thanks guys!

Maca82

Done the journey with my pal and I remember that Hibs game the anger and saying to my mate Ally is emptying these stands as quick as the Spivs. Feel bad now as Super was my hero growing up and still is but I stand by it. Worse than getting hammered off that mob under Pedro and Murty that game.

Adam Williamson

That’s really your retort to the devastation inflicted on Scotland since 2014? A ferry contract issue? What about the countless billions wasted on fake PPE contracts by Tory corruption and incompetence? Luckily the clear majority now see right through the British nationalist guff they swallowed in 2014, including many Rangers fans 👍🏼

Heart and Hand

I was having a joke with you Adam, I thought we were but obviously my mistake. You’re not going to change my mind Adam and I’m not going to change yours so let’s not waste our time endlessly pointlessly point-scoring. You think I’m wrong, I think you’re wrong. I’m comfortable other people may hold views that differ to mine without taking it as a personal attack. The four podders on this show hold different ones to you which they made a 30 second joke of. If that seends you frothing there’s not a lot I can do about it.

David Innes

I remember being really angry that Ally was still in post at this point. Not because of the poor results but because I believed that as a Rangers legend he should not have been lending the spivs his credibility by being part of their regime. I wanted him to quit and support the boycott. No way to prove if that would have got us out of the messer sooner or made things worse but it’s how I felt at the time.

Heart and Hand

Incidentally all four of us are Labour voters so the assumption every Unionist is a Conservative is trite.

Adam Williamson

Do you mind pointing me to where I said you were a Conservative? Lies don’t help anyone. It’s not about being right or wrong, mate. But if you’re going to be putting British nationalist propaganda in a football podcast, don’t be surprised when you’re challenged on your views. I work in the asylum system, and I see first-hand the evil of this UK Government as it tries to dismantle the very right to seek asylum, literally letting people die in the sea and transporting people against their will to Rwanda. Labour’s policy on immigration isn’t much different either. So don’t expect me not to challenge you when you tell me how Scotland was saved from independence. It’s been a cataclysmic disaster of a decision to be in the U.K. A bit of advice: stick to what you’re good at, stick to the football 👍🏼

Heart and Hand

‘British nationalist propaganda’ come on FFS. Absolutely ridiculous. Clearly a joke and it’s a sad reflection you couldn’t hear it without this pathetic over-reaction. Bit of advice back, this is my podcast and I’ll put in whatever I want in my shows. If I decided to have a show that WAS propaganda it’s my call. Secondly, if you want to bring people round to your views shouting at them that they’re wrong won’t cut it. It’s why you’ll never achieve independence because that’s the movement’s default setting with non-believers. I’m very proudly British and Unionist. That will occasionally come out in my shows, as do my other beliefs from time to time. If your beliefs are so fragile that you can’t hear someone holding different views, that’s on you.

Adam Williamson

As I say, it’s really no joke at all. You can laugh from your comfortable, privileged position (and I’m not saying you’ve not worked for it, before you start that patter), but it’s no joke for the people drowning in the sea, or those who had to starve to heat their homes this winter. The only screaming here is coming from you, mate. I’ve calmly and rationally explained to you a few of the reasons why being in the U.K. has done so much damage to Scotland in the last 9 years. To suggest I can’t handle hearing opposing views is bizarre, that’s literally what I’m doing by respectfully engaging with you 😂It’s you that’s said you can’t be convinced on certain issues, but don’t tar me with the same brush. I’m open to debate. You can indeed put whatever you like in your podcasts, but if you don’t like being challenged on your propaganda, and it appears you don’t, then I suggest following my advice to sticking to the football. To your second point, you’re in for an almighty shock if you think Scotland isn’t going to be independent. Any reputable poll shows Yes at 52-58% before any official campaign even begins (we went from 29% to 45% last time) and the demographics are overwhelmingly in our favour. The U.K. Government’s flirtation with authoritarianism by blocking a referendum is only driving support for independence up. Scotland will be an independent country. We’ll continue with our patient convincing of those open to debate (you’ve conceded you aren’t, fair enough), and we’ll leave the Brit nats to have another one off the wrist over a photo of your inbred septuagenarian aristocrat King! (Thought I’d end on a wee joke, since you like them so much 😜) Pleasure chatting, all the best!

Tamus

Dear Jock Mc Scottish, the Scottish Parliament ergo the SNP have full fiscal responsibility for the NHS in Scotland, its actually so bad at the moment that Humza Useless isn't allowed to answer questions on it, Mrs Murrell has taken the reigns in a style that would make Joe Goebels Blush. Scotlands high Covid death rate is on Nicola when she sent covid sufferers from Hospital back into care homes which helped spread the virus to those poor and infirm in care who who didn't yet have it. Scotland's NHS also has the highest waiting times for cancer treatment, that also lies squarely with Humza and ultimately Nicola

Adam Williamson

Someone hasn’t heard of the Barnett Formula, or the fact that the vast majority of Scottish taxation is controlled by Westminster. But the Scottish NHS compares favourably to any other part of the U.K. at the moment, so thanks for bringing up yet another bit of evidence that we would do better running our own affairs 👍🏼

Heart and Hand

52-58%? Sounds like an SNP poll to me, definitely 😂 And if you insist you’re calmly debating, the dramatic journey you took in two posts to me not caring about others from my ‘privileged position’ sorta pees on the argument a bit. The automatic assumption that me differing on the best way to the solutions means I don’t think there are problems is the mark of a zealot and also one who believes inherently that they are not only right but morally right and therefore superior to anyone who disagrees with them - Nationalism in a nutshell. Anyway, you’re right, nothing changes and good luck in the future, may we never be stuck in a lift together!

Stephen

I blame Ally's inability to pick a good starting lineup, make good substitutions and the core issue, wearing Walter's waistcoat at his first game in charge.

Adam Williamson

Never said you didn’t care, just said you could afford to make jokes, which is also true of me, I’m also privileged. And you’re right, the most recent poll by STV (not SNP) actually put indy support at 60% in Glasgow, and the lowest support in any local authority was 52% in Highlands and Islands. Sorry for underestimating support 😂 You can imagine being a Rangers-supporting independence supporter means I get my fair share of hate (from all sides) so thanks for being respectful, and genuine congratulations on H&H, I do really enjoy it.

Heart and Hand

Same to you and this is literally why we do only refer to politics in a joking sense on here if at all as it gets out of hand and puts people at loggerheads quicker than the Tav debate! I grew up in an area with extreme poverty and in my last job worked with asylum seekers/refugees - I don’t believe humour is an exclusively middle-class and upwards thing. They didn’t and used it to help cope with their situations. Life without humour is piety and I’m not a fan of that.

David Kiltie

I kept waiting for Hearts to hit a bad patch but I soon realised that even if they did we would not be able to find the consistency to make up the deficit in any case. I would say that season was the worst of them all.

Adam Williamson

Fair enough, it’s easy to go a bit overboard when we’re passionate about something. There’s definitely a place for humour in most areas of life, I agree. And I wasn’t meaning to try to “censor” you or whatever. Just wanted to make my point, which is probably not a healthy impulse a lot of the time 😂

Heart and Hand

All good pal. I suspect we're probably only really different on the routes to the destination rather than the destinantion itself.

Adam Williamson

I suspect you’re right. The first thing I said the night the result was announced in 2014 was that I hoped I was wrong and the unionists were right. Unfortunately I’m struggling for evidence in that regard!

Jack

Hi lads, quick question that came into my head. What do you think would have happened 11/12 if Walter had decided on that being his last season and not 10/11? Do you think he sees out the year with whyte/admin etc? Do we win the league/don’t get knocked out of Europe? And does he stay on when the inevitable happens?

Rob Shorthouse

Great question. To be honest with you, the implosion during the 11/12 season, in my opinion, was such that even a great like Walter would have been unable to prevent it. As for the rest of your questions: no idea!
