And so to the end. Rangers form, which had stumbled along all season, fell off a cliff. Defeat at Hearts left the promotion hopes almost impossible. A humiliating defeat at Alloa in the Petrofac Cup followed by a dismal loss in Dumfries saw Ally hand in his one-year notice. He would go the next week.

Join Dave, David and Stuart as they continue their look at Ally McCoist career as boss of Rangers.

God that Alloa game. Was playing fives that night so Sky+ the game and watched it when i got back in. When we went 2 up i fast forwarded the end of the half and couldn't believe what I was watching.

This next chapter is actually worse than what came before imo, I have never been angrier watching rangers and even now it's annoying me thinking about that game at Easter road

Alex Bryce

Is there an MP3 link?? Thanks.

I remember watching the Alloa game at my Grandpa’s house. We were thinking easy night and then go and get some takeaway. By the end of the game we had turned it off and proceeded to binge LOTR, pretending we had no idea what football was

That night at Recreation Park was a real low point for me. The bus back wasn’t even angry, it was just a numbed silence.

As much hate as Ian Black got, though not from myself I have to say, what that Queen of the South Player done to him was despicable

While it's true Ally wasn't the best of managers, I think it's also true that with the club in the state it was, we could have had SAF in the dugout and I'm not sure you could have motivated some of those players any more. It was toxic, the club I'd known as a boy was dying and by this point I couldn't take it anymore. I was tired of reading stories about anything but football. Super Ally is my footballing hero, and he always will be. As far as I'm concerned he stood up when we needed him most and did the best he could. I hold nothing against him for how it ended and choose to believe he was indeed trying to force the owners hand because as a Rangers man, he felt how we felt and could see from the inside the club cannibalising itself. There are few people whose hearts so obviously belong to the club and watching him after the Leipzig game, it could have been me. It could have been any of us.

This series has, in a weird way, made me love Ally even more. At the time it was easy to get angry at him as we were diabolical on the pitch and you almost detached Ally the legend from Ally the manager. But listening to this in the context of Ally now on tv and his clear love of Rangers that he isn't scared to show, my god he must have been hurting during this period. A small memory for me from his last game at Ibrox (when he didn’t get on the pitch for Kilmarnock) We got in really early and Ally was out just running up and down the half way line, long before the teams came out to warm up. We sat in the west enclosure at the time so I went down to the away dugout in the hope Ally would come and sign my programme. He didn’t (can’t blame him, even that early there would have been a swarm!) Durrant (also end of his playing days but was injured I think) was in the away dugout reading the programme. I was trying to stare Ally out to get that autograph and he looked at me, winked then nodded over to Durrant. And with that he fired one of the balls that were out for the warm up straight in the dugout and hit Durrant as he read the programme and he shat it. I laughed and looked at McCoist and he nodded to me again and my day was made.

The alloa game we looked so comfortable that I changed channel as I thought “this is over and it’s done”switch back just to see what the final score was and they were interviewing a clearly delighted alloa player!!! this sums up where we were that I couldn’t be bothered watching the whole game, something I have never done before that night or after.

Ah! So we reach the end of the beginning of this horrible time in our history. Thanks Dave, David & Stuart for this pod & series. A tough shift every week lads, thanks again for all your hard work and resilience to bring this to us. Alloa - by this point this was nothing new, was it? In fact it was routine - unacceptable by Rangers standards yes but this era was not 'Rangers' in anything other than name, blue jersey & expectations. Footballwise, Ally had to go. But for me, and thousands like me, his continued presence at the club seemed absolutely necessary as the most high-ranking 'Rangers man' in the club. Leeches above in the boardroom, leeches below in the dressing room (bar a few honourable & notable exceptions!) - all bleeding the club dry. He was the lynchpin keeping it together. What underpins ALL of this era is what the Manager had to contend with - all of it. Not simply picking players & tactics - What would Walter / Souness / Jock Wallace have done with the carnage happening daily outside the dressing room? No one knows! An old adage - Before you judge a man, you must walk a mile in his shoes. No one else had to walk those many, many long miles Ally had to. Those few years aged him quickly, just look at the pictures! Ally never managed any other club. Because he's not a good manager. Probably! Ally didn't & doesn't NEED to manage any other club. He managed the only club that really mattered, when it really mattered, and each & every single Rangers supporter should be eternally greatful that he did, when he did. I have 'enjoyed' this series lads, thanks again for all your hard work bringing it to us. It is obviously less joyous & pleasurable than Dominant but it is the flip side to that coin and equally as important. Tremendous work lads 👏👏👏👏

I had left the U.K. in 2012 and bought my Rtv season ticket up until this season. I don’t think I watched much even on those Geordie gits YouTube channel. It was horrendous. As for McCoist my first born is named after him 😂 so safe to say he always gets a pass although not as a football manager.

Paul Kerr

Whatever bad feeling I had towards Ally quickly evaporated, as you say he was my hero FFS how could I stay mad at him? McDowell on the other hand... A fucking unprofessional disgrace. Reliving that will get us in a right mood. 😂 This show puts life in perspective like no other.
