Steven is back with another look at football history and is joined by James Forrest to discuss a major event in early Scottish football history. In 1909, the Scottish Cup final took place between Rangers and Celtic, a match that had recently described for the very first time as 'The Old Firm'. How different was this rivalry then compared to now? And why did neither team win the Scottish Cup this season? Find out in this unique look back in the history of Rangers.

John Mackay

What a superb history lesson. Thanks to both of you.

Graham McCallum

Great stuff guys. This period was around the times of my own maternal grandparents being born in the south side of Glasgow. 👏👏

Bob MacCallum

That was brilliant, guys. Hopefully, younger listeners will gain a new perspective on our football history from such shows. PS one criticism: you should have called a spade a spade when discussing the origin of Celtic. Not, "followers of a particular religion" or "with certain beliefs" but Irish Catholics. That was its targetted base, its core followers.

Sandy

Loved this, thank you

Really enjoyed the pod. Out of interest, is there a connection to the man on the way to the game? Or is he "plucked" from the ether?

Steven Harrigan

No, the part was written with Martyn's voice in mind and an opportunity to set the scene without me and James having the ability to experience it.

Ian Milne

I wish someone would burn the current Hampden down.

David Gibson

Fantastic detail. Great content. Thanks guys
