Platoon 😂😂😂😂

One of the best games I ever went to for the sheer grit and determination shown to win. The anger shown towards Andrew Waddell was like nothing I'd seen up to that point as a 13 year old at the match. My clearest memory were the chants of "Waddell, GTF! Waddell, Waddell GTF!!" coupled with the arms of supporters in the West stand pointing at the clown as they sang. I was in the Main stand that night and was relatively dry and like you say, it got to a point where everyone in the stadium knew we were going to win! What a performance! We always parked towards Kings Park and remember my dad saying to me " Cover up after the match and keep the grin off your face as we might need to walk through some of them!" :D I also went to the other semi-final which was at the weekend, just for something to do between Airdrie and Hearts in the Airdie end The game finished 0-0 and the highlight was John Martin the Airdrie goalie swinging on the bar! I didn't go to the replay!

I've still not dried out from that night :-)

Gregg

If you never came back with trench foot - were you really there? 😂

Andrew Waddell was an absolute helmet

Andy Barnett

Superb show gents. Was the first cup semi final I attended and remains in my top 5 matches to this day. In 1992, that was never a red card. Miller jumped out the way of it. Had Waddell booked Robertson, nobody would’ve questioned the decision on either and all sides.

I loved this match - so much about it set us up for the years to come. Safely in the dry Rangers end and thoroughly enjoyed the ride of that match from there. They released a VHS of the entire game that summer and I still have my copy… it was a honking example of playing football for all the excitement and emotion of the evening. Football is in part about the technique and the art of playing the game. It is also about sheer tribalism and emotion though… probably more so. The idea of “being there” for such an important victory was incredibly important to teenage me as I found my tribe.

I was in the north enclosure with a Mod Parker on. Walking back to the Quarry Bar in Rutherglen felt like dragging a caravan wearing that multi layered coat of many pockets. What a night it was.

Mark

It was a bit of a mental challenge mate, even then. Why give the ref the decision to make?

Alex Hood

Absolute tune at the start btw

William Hughes

What a night and atmosphere that was. Crammed in the North Stand, wind and rain battering down, bouncing and singing The Sash. The early red card galvanised the team and support. What about Allys first time finish? You little beauty.

Great discussion. I’ve thought all evening about other metaphors to describe sport, but nothing else seems to fit the bill. Even individual moments are often described with terms like “Exocet missile”, “a rocket” or “torpedoed their hopes”, etc. As a youth level coach I’ve spent years telling the players to win their individual battles! It’s a tribal thing too, as when David describes that journey to the stadium when everyone is together, your opponents doing the same at the other end. You are marching to do battle together. Looking forward to the next episode!

That thing about the momentum and “knowing” at the end… I walked out of Leipzig’s stadium that night utterly confident that Rangers were in the final. Rarely been so assured of an outcome with Rangers and emotionless logic would have probably led you to the very opposite conclusion.

Graeme Heaney

This is why prince at superbowl is what it.

Gary Brown

Enjoyed that. Thanks guys.

Callum Dinnen

Yeah I don't think I even considered the possibility I would be leaving Ibrox disappointed for the Leipzig 2nd leg.
