thanks Alan, went on Youtube to see more of that Bayern game, wat a player Bud was

Iain Neil

Thanks Alan , early 70’s was a great time for music and remembering the build up to the Bayern and then winning, exciting times indeed

Steve Clark

Although ultimately beating them in the semi final isn’t quite as good as it would have been had we won the cup,.it’s still something they should always be reminded of and will never happen again that we beat them when we were in a lower league.

Bob MacCallum

Great show again. PS in that cup defeat by Motherwell at Ibrox, The Army refused Baxter permission to play. Of course, you had conscription at that time. The thought of Baxter in uniform, subject to discipline and obedience just boggles my mind!

John Walker

Good stuff again. Your right about the class of opposition in those European semi's. Bayer going on to win 3 European cups with that team. Parlane only 19 don't think that would happen in this day. As for request's, we'll I'm off to see the stranglers tonight so only fitting to get them on next week, nice n sleazy, skin deep or duchess just not golden brown please.

Alan Bradley

Thanks Bob, yeah remember reading that about Baxter and National Service. I’m sure through the years this applied to other players too. As you say, Baxter and discipline would have been interesting to say the least.

Alan Bradley

To be honest, I had forgotten just how special he was. It’s only when you look back and see footage from that period. Nowadays we hear about players “numbers/goals/assists etc”. Wee Bud’s stats would have been amazing. Clearly on the bookings and Red cards too, but that’s for another day. Just a fantastic Gers player.

Alan Bradley

Agree. It was a special victory, especially as a championship side. Sadly it forced Celtic to up their game, change managers and bring in Brendan Rogers. Regardless, was an amazing day.

Alan Bradley

Thanks IaIn. Big challenge I have with the 70s music is trying to limit the number of song clips to single figures. 😊

Andy Sladen

Great pod again Alan and thanks for playing my request. Saw HMHB at Sheffield Uni in 1985! For some reason the old Wolverhampton Town song brings a smile and a tear every time I hear it. My dad always waxes lyrical about that team and though I was born in 1966 some of those names were the first I heard of. Keep up the good work look forward to the Monday morning drive to work now!

Great pod Alan. A couple of connections come to mind from 72. We were so far ahead of Bayern on that night at Ibrox Wee Bud was taking the piss out of Bayern and sitting on the ball. Secondly the fabulous introduction tune from Led Zeppelin reminds me of dogging the school and heading in to Glasgow to queue out in Cambridge St in a blizzard to buy tickets to see Zeppelin at the Apollo. Halcyon days right enough.

David Baillie

Never had you down as a Fred Perry man Alan. I was thinking more Arthur Black. 🤨😂

Angus Mackay

Great show again Alan , some great victories👍☺️

Alan Bradley

Clearly I would never dogged the school, “ honest mum we were playing putting down in Belhaven Park during a couple of free periods from Wishaw High”. So jealous, Led Zep at the Apollo - wow 👏👏

David Baillie

An unforgettable night seeing Zeppelin. There was a big spiel in the press (probably the Record) about the band being chucked out the Central Hotel for refusing to wear a tie to dinner. Almost certainly Peter Grant’s (no, not THAT one) doing. That night onstage resplendent in a tie, Plant dedicated Misty Mountain Hop to the Central Hotel Glasgow waving the tie aloft at the lyric “ They asked us to stay for tea and have some fun.” Brilliant. Around this time I used to nip down from Coltness High at lunchtime to play phat with Bryce Keachie in the Wishaw High toilets. We weren’t posh enough for putting. 🤨😂I highly recommend Mick Wall’s biography When Giants Walked the Earth. There’s a great story about the Glasgow gigs, PA gear being held to ransome for the 2nd show and Peter Grant enlisting the help of some friendly local “worthies”.😂

Alan Bradley

Fab, I’ll have a wee read of that one. Coltness High for a few years, then Wishaw High from 3rd year. If only I’d stuck in at school David. Jeezo remember the Keachies too. I’m guessing the odd night at the Heathery, Girdwoods, Tam Park’s, happy times indeed.

David Baillie

All the above Alan. I was at Coltness for 2 years then over to Garrion when it opened in 1970. I’m still friendly with the lads in Nightfly who used to play with Ryan’s Express. Look out for them in Girdwoods regularly. Some band.
