Much to several people's OCD angst (and apologies for that), Hoggy is back slightly later than planned due to running out of time on Friday!  Saturday recording meant flying solo - and Arkwright's "it's been a funny old week" saying means focus on:

- Director of Football - what is it / what should it be / do we care? (we should!)

- Finances and playing squad

- and one, lovely ray of sunshine linking Borna with Mark Hateley!

Let me know your favourite imaginary linkups of players from past and present, hopefully we can get Iain Shaw on next week.  Thanks for bearing with me this week xx

(Oh - and buy the book!  It's a best seller!!! https://heartandhand.co.uk/our-rangers-heroes/)

Wish we had Mark Hateley in either of our UEFA/Europa finals. The ultimate number nine!

Gregg

Agreed on the DoF role - think it should be explained, by the club. A day in the life of would be good for RTV. Do think it’s a bit tight him getting the blame for injuries though - maybe the medical team are under his overall remit but he isn’t a doc

Re Wilson's recruitment last summer, I, like most fans I suspect, had no complaints. He brought in 2 central defenders, a left back, 2 attacking midfielders, a striker and a winger. All bases covered. Only error might have been no new keeper. Most of newbies made little impact due to injury or Gio's mindset so don't blame Wilson in hindsight.

In regards Edmiston House , imagine we'd filled in the corners and had 56,000 of a capacity than 51,000 ....... so cost is immaterial Edmiston house should make Rangers money for decades to come

Scott Cameron

blame David Murray for that not happening in mid 90's. Any work will that now would cost far more than the NEH £12m.

Scott Cameron

Laughing at the Gerrard/Souness DOF suggestions, the next man in needs to be at training ground every day like Wilson/Allen. Not a role that can be done via distance and some sort of hybrid working model.

Louch

To use a dating analogy, as a support we seem desperate to text our ex than to find someone new that might be better for us 😂😂

Hoggy, well done on a great pod. A few observations in respect of Ross Wilson’s much criticized tenure, if I may. He was able to command fees for a number of players who were totally out of the picture - Edmundson, Jones, Katic, Itten, Bacuna, Middleton, Kelly. Compare that to the frequent pay-off of players in Martin Bain’s day. He can take credit for upgrading Auchenhowie, which had become rather tired and dated. Remember 25 years ago semi-pro teams in Scandinavia had better training facilities than we did a shameful situation. A major positive from his checkered tenure was the sale of Nathan Patterson. In 1997 we sold a reserve right back (Greg Shields) to Dunfermline for £100k. From that to selling an equivalent player to a EPL team for £12m plus. There is much disaffection about the club at present, the league table being the obvious explanation. The club in many ways is in much better shape than it was in the 1990s, but of course had fallen down the financial food chain as the game has changed seismically over the last generation.

Hoggy

Agree Gregg. However….depends on span on strategic control!

Hoggy

All fair. I’d just counter “the measure of par”. Comparing to Martin Bain is probably a little amusing. I wrote a comparison that I decided wasn’t the best 😂😂😂

My group of players Graham Roberts Davie Roberson John Greig Tam Forsyth Fernando Ricksen Terry Hurlock Graeme Souness John Brown Mark Hateley Sam English Jimmy Millar Feel like there’s a theme!

Gregg

Ian Durrant and Barry Ferguson midfield combo. Or think de Boer and Durrant would be a good combo - spot the theme

Graeme Dempster

Just for the banter Ian ferguson and Ian Black!!

Michael Gray

Great episode Hoggy. I’d imagine 2-3m profit on NEH is unrealistic. But who knows. COMMUNICATION as you say is integral with everything on clubs plans moving forward. Fair to say Park, Robertson and Wilson despised external engagement.

Michael Gray

At least one, I’d say two of their roles need to be comfortable in the public spotlight and engagement with stakeholders of Rangers

Really good content this week. Have been stressed out my box with uni exams, listening to the podcasts is one of my ways of tuning out and relaxing; albeit fucking stressful subjects the past few weeks. On Ross Wilson, he received a LOT of criticism. How much of it is valid is a question that only the board can answer. I think the club would be making a big mistake if they continued in the same direction with the role. I believe we need a DoF, but it should be completely transparent with what the role entails. Loyal fans put all of their money into the club, the minimum we ask is that senior roles can be held accountable for decisions that are made.

Have stuck with this team! Cueller and Goldson, Tillman and Mo Johnston

Steven McNeil

Would like to have seen De Boer at eight of a front 3 and all his clever hold up, attacking and creative play linking with Tav the way he gets up the right
