Before the 2nd leg of our Champions League qualifier in Geneva, Rangers face Livingston at Ibrox in league business.  David Martindale brings his Livingston team along the M8 to try and improve on the point they took from Ibrox last October as we examine "the fear" and the tension.

Join Kev, Steven and Hoggy as they provide the preview.

Hoggy would you say it's a case of having key players in the team for key games rather than being permanently in? We've seen what these 50+ game seasons have done to Tav. Definitely play Cantwell for the bulk but I'd rotate when possible instead of going down the 'bar of soap' style of management. Wondered what you thought.

Norm

Biggest concern for me with new boys is Dessers. Don't see any great technical ability or physical presence. Happy to be proven wrong though. Lammers look good preseason not so much in a competitive games. Time will tell.

Norm

Get Stevie in that dressing room doing the team talks.

Ian Cartledge

Steven defo a sending off…boy took a swing at Cantwell

Love this platform but it's getting tedious how often Social Media reactions are mentioned. I follow very few Rangers fans on Twitter etc, don't read any message-boards as the stuff written is constant drivel. Attention seeking nonsense that doesn't mean anything and should never be taken serious, ever. How the lunatics on social media react to anything should be ignored and not given even a single bit of attention on here.

David MacT

Hmmmmm maybe for some. I'd hazard a guess more rational and logical people rightly avoid it as it's a cesspit of attention seekers and genuine idiots.

Scott

What was the song used in the opening section of the show please?

William Mcdonald

Great show lads first time watching the stream and enjoyed it.

Your 100% spot on, it’s a lazy way to write off any criticism as if somehow it’s a lunatic fringe without examining the argument made. The idea any of the well known flaws in the team over 5-6 years is knee jerk is a bit insulting. Part of the drop in expectations and standard comes from this idea you can’t criticise what’s right in front of you week after week. It’s as if you have no right to expect more than we get, that’s never been the Rangers way. I binned Twitter a year ago and only look at Rangers Fan or general football media I suspect many others do similar. Any forum is more or less social media these days I think writing off certain views is akin to the pro’s when they tell punters they don’t know what they are seeing as they haven’t played the game.

I get all this chat about new players, a new team gelling etc etc BUT that doesn't explain why individual players can't show us even a glimpse of real ability. I've started calling Dessers, Drossers as he looks totally lacking in any ability whatsoever. No pace, no guts, no energy, no strength to hold off defenders. That's nothing to do with gelling but ability. Ditto Danilo who made Sakala look like Ronaldo on Wednesday. Plus with Sima, the only consolation is he's only on loan. Contrast with Ciufuentes who looked class with practically every touch. He proved it's ability, not training, gelling, tactics or coaching that counts.

Neil

I gave up on Twitter totally, these H&H threads are the only fan comments I'm reading these days. Tends to be a bit more considered around here

Brian Steel

Brilliant show as always. Totally agree, I've seen more recently, a few players biting back at Tav because he thinks everything should be passed to him or go should go through him, or he should take the throw ins etc. Tavs not the player he was, I'm usually his biggest fan, but I'd like to see someone else given a chance and have run in the team for a few games to see how we play.

David Bold

That was the best Preview Show I have listened to. Podders who absolutely get it. I had to stop myself applauding Mr Hog at various points. No disrespect to the other Preview podders, but this line up should be set in stone.

I’ve always been optimistic, always finding the silver lining. Decided that I didn’t want get my expectations up until I see proof, then ten minutes before the Killie game I’m convinced we’re winning a treble and who knows if it clicks in CL dreams can come true. After the Killie disappointment I got excited again against servette. By full time I am fully in the camp of every single one of them is shite until they win the treble. I’ve seen this film too many times and I’m not buying the excuses being handed out. No benefits of doubt from me ever again. I look forward to embracing my position of being that guy in CD5 from here on out.

Alastair McGeoch

Agree with Hoggy, we’ve never been a club with patience. Certainly, tav, Goldson, Barisic Lundstrum and Beale himself shouldn’t need patience to feel their way into a game at Killie. That’s why there has been such a reaction. The core guys Beale is relying on to show the way to our new players continue to indicate they don’t have the mentality as evidenced again by the Killie game. I thought winning the title would establishing the winning mentaility back into the club and yet we immediately regressed.

Graeme Price

Renaming this the Hoggy monologues! Let's do this today lads.

David MacT

I follow a few of the H&H guys on Twitter and they're all reasonable guys. That's about it when it comes to Rangers fans though, when you have a quick read of the 'For You' section of that app I laugh with total embarrassment at the crazy lunatics that make these ridiculous comments after 2 games. It's almost like there's some trend amongst our online support to try and be the most OTT. As for places like Follow Follow etc you couldn't pay me to read that utter cesspit. A place full of Celtic fans and the most idiotic of Rangers fans trying to out stupid each other 😄

Angus Mackay

I agree, David, the past week on-line has been massively dispiriting. I get Davie's point that this is the landscape, but I believe we're now getting to the point where fan media is actually closing a feedback loop by taking what were extreme views in on-line ghettos and feeding them into what is a more mainstream audience; that then gets picked up by the mainstream media and is disseminated into the wider support. I say fan media because this is not a jibe at H&H or even Rangers fan media, but I think we are particularly vulnerable to it because of the intensity that surrounds our club. Personally I think that fan media can, and should, play a gatekeeping role when it comes to what gets discussed and what doesn't. Sometimes we need to be saved from ourselves; the freedom to speak and the right to be heard are not the same thing. Again, this is not in any way an attack on Davie or H&H; I think what he's done here is tremendous and has been a massive positive for the club. It's just my assessment of the broader dangers of fan media and how it can be very counter productive at crucial times.

Hoggy

Definitely. Most games you want Butland, Tav, Goldson, Raskin, Cantwell. And a main striker. But you have to rest them too and be confident of doing so. Against Morton is ideal (you’d think)

Hoggy

Ach shucks. But we’re a Preview team dude. I enjoyed it but it’s good to have ongoing freshness.

Hoggy

😂 I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not 😂

Spoon

Think the reality is that there’s always extreme views that you can take or leave but what’s creeping in to certain media is accepted ‘truths’ that sometimes don’t reflect the wide range of opinions out there. Most opinions in football are half head and heart so not always logical but no individual or group is more correct than another, it’s all about emotions and reaction so sometimes that will be visceral and might jibe. Always find it dangerous to write off a view, not saying you need to agree or endorse it but rarely will you find even people who have a broadly similar take on something as you can differ in the details. To write off discontent as baseless negativity isn’t anymore helpful than slating folk who only see the positives, except men on posts at corners which obviously as we already established is just part of gods plan….

Spoon

Appreciate you guys won’t want the format to get stale but have to say personally I prefer the original format of show including the recap. Hope Alex returns when he can as like the current midfield he provides the missing piece that gives the perfect balance 👌🏼 Don’t fix what isn’t broken….
