Hi David - any idea on roughly how many CL or EL games we’ll have to win to qualify for the World Club Championship in USA. Since you raised this a bit back, I can’t stop dreaming about watching Rangers in a competitive match in (say) New York!

Heart and Hand

I think it’s an outside bet anyway from what coefficient experts are saying. But FIFA haven’t confirmed structure or anything at moment so nobody really knows for sure.

Bigticket

Bit harsh on Katic imo, I think he would do a good job.

Fraser Ritchie

Had to pause the DU after the intro to go listen to free fallin 🤣

Fraser Ritchie

Will it even go to a general sale before it sells out David?

If true, I'm struggling as to why we are looking at a 19 year old 5ft 10 centre half. We already have a 19 year old prospect on our books who struggles with the physicality of the SPFL, adding another for the quoted 7m price seems like madness to me. As for the bizarre dig at Katic, he'll prove to be a better player than Ben Davies ever will and IMO, it was mental, verging on negligent selling him last season when we realistically only had King and Sands as back up. Can we not sign a better CB than Goldson who we signed in 2018? That's what it will take to improve that defence.

Rod

People speak so presumptuously about the money we would make from "going on a good run in the Europa", it's far from a guarantee. At least the CL money is guaranteed no matter what happens.

KMS

Very surprised there was no mention of the big fan engagement event at NEH tonight on the DU

Colin

I’m attending so will have an update as part of tomorrow’s show.

Russ

Even if there was a 'dig' it's fair, Katic was a fine defender for steaming in and heading balls away for days. Maybe I'm howling but the only difference between Katic and George Edmundsons Rangers career is a winner against Celtic 🤷 But aye, fully agree on improving the defence and I'm still not fully convinced Goldson is a better choice than Souttar at RCB.

"One of those players who got better every day he was injured." Looking back, he very rarely let us down and was outstanding in many of the "big" games that he was involved in. Remember Legia Warsaw? Serie A clubs at any level tend not to recruit bad defenders so hopefully he does well.

Heart and Hand

No, it isn’t. If you make CL and take zero points - and your TV pool share, lack of success in last ten years in it etc - compared to qualifying from EL and getting through to even first ko round, it’s at best negligible.

KMS

It's a huge issue for a lot of our supporters (& some H&H subscribers I daresay) was just surprised it didn't get mentioned. Glad you'll be covering it though Colin, will be interesting to hear what happens for those of us who aren't lucky enough to attend.

Heart and Hand

That’s not a dig at the player, it’s about how players get better in their absence as fans tend to remember the good stuff and forget the bad. Also Brian, he did let us down a fair bit - Kilmarnock 1-2, St Johnstone 2-2 spring to mind. We are some support for revisionism. I like the big guy but Cammy’s point is fair.

Heart and Hand

Well I can’t really cover something that hasn’t happened yet. I’m good but I’m not that good 😀 Colin will have a full report tomorrow.

KMS

Your gig in December at the same venue hasn't happened yet but you covered that 😂

Rod

I get that, but people are so presumptuous about how we would get on in the EL. You would think qualifying for the knockout round is a mere formality the way people speak about it.

Gregg

Katic is a cult hero - he wasn’t good enough sadly. Hope he goes on to do well in Italy

Brian Rae

I'm certainly not saying he didn't make mistakes and he was definitely a raw 21 year old when we signed him but they weren't as frequent as some seem to think either. What doesn't sit right with me is that he wasn't the only defender who was making mistakes in his time at the club yet he was always the one hung out to dry. I'm sure he'll do very well.

Mark Harvey

Off topic but I visited the museum today. An incredible presentation of our clubs history and I'd thoroughly recommend it to everyone. Great for children of school age as well.

Gregg

He was raw when he arrived and he didn’t really improve any in that regard, in my view. Agree on the potential centre half - if we get one in it should be after Davies has been sold and someone who is ready to start.

I am sure the SFA made a similar mistake when the World Cup was in Switzerland. They turned up with woollen strips for the players. Tommy Doherty said he almost died in the heat.

Live H&H show at NEH is exciting. Will it be possible to get seated tickets? My old man loved the last show but would have struggled to stand for the whole show last time... Thankfully someone at the tables at the front made space for him.

If Beale insists on this narrow defence then PSV will run riot against us but surely he will have identified they are very good on the wings and we aren't defending well enough in that system.
