With the transfer window closing, Martyn thought it would be a good time to ask Adam and Ally how the recruitment process works, what constitutes success in the market and why we are so obsessed with the whole business itself.

Great pod as is the norm.... maybe If possible once the hullabaloo dies down maybe get a players agent on but you have maybe have done this ?? Maybe in regards Kent Morelos from a rangers point of view the risk/reward was simply too great and God knows what happened to Glen Kamara ? personally I think he saw his mates move and if there was no " bids " after a euro final its hard to see 1 coming

A good signing is one that works and does exactly what it says on the tin. We just need to learn how to onsell and make $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ instead of watching Millions walk out the door for HeeHaw

Good episode, plenty of thought provoking discussion. Thanks Martyn, Ally & Adam. Just too many variables now in this matter for anyone not directly involved to get their head round. Eg sports science / biometrics is a practical and provable medium, that players / agents undoubtely use as a selling tool and clubs will (should!) pay great atrention to. There's simply far more to it than the 'YouTube reel' barometer the vast majority of fans use. The only certainty is every single transfer is a gamble.

Interesting point about whether the big clubs “can” buy a player for lower amounts. I know fans of top end EPL clubs (Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool) who absolutely turn their nose up at the idea of their club buying someone for less than £50m. It’s a reflected glory thing - they see spending less than that as being beneath them. To be honest, then spitting bricks now that the Saudis will outspend them without blinking is highly entertaining. On balance, another mate is a Villa fan and absolutely gets the idea of buying of someone for £20m to sell them for £60m in the future because his club aren’t in the box seat for spending >£50m each time.
