See me Well over a half marathon in the morning before the game

iain crawford

Thanks lads, that's my drive up to Glasgow tonight after work sorted👍. Much appreciated

Steven L

This will keep me going for a few hours across the Atlantic.

Alan

The previews are longer than the actual games now.

Gordon Mac

Cheered me right up there lads 🤣

drgriffen

A pod for the ages. Keep up the good work.

Bob MacCallum

That postponed Celtic game in 2008 was because of O'Donnell's death. Celtic, showing their sporting integrity, asked to postpone due to him having been a bit player for them 10 years previously. At the time of the original scheduled game, we were flying, they were off form and had key players suspended. Sporting integrity was born.

Gregg

Their fans were not fans of O’Donnell because he left on a Bosman - Dundee United were also made to play despite being on the pitch when he passed away. It was crass hypocrisy

Bob MacCallum

Stevie, Hearts beat Rosenberg. It was PAOK that knocked them out.

David MacT

Jesus fuck. It's like that cesspit FF in audio form 😂. We listen to these pods to avoid places like that and now it's became just like it.

Russ

Fair point on Beale just addressing the forward line this summer - looking back from now it was a bit of a myth that we didn't score enough goals last season, it was the thick end of 100 goals in the league but because Celtic were running up 5's regularly the paranoia set in in the fanbase. It should always have been about the defence - we've scored enough goals to win the league for years imo. Great pod lads, I don't think PSV were that much better than they were in the first leg btw Steven..like their manager and fans have said. It's just our defending and concentration was atrocious this time round. Let's not burn everything to the ground a couple of months into a rebuild eh.

Bob MacCallum

Also, when Burns ( one of their COACHES at the time) died near the end of that season, they played at Pittodrie so they could win the league. Sums them up!

Bob MacCallum

You're allowed a few after all your great research and the long discussions stemming from that. Keep up the good work. Wish you worked for Beale and co.

David MacT

I only lasted to the 39th minute before deciding it was too sunny to be miserable 😁

Thomas scroggie

We all said it’s going to take a few windows to get it right now we are all moaning about it just give it time we have plenty to win the league this year that’s the main priority This season all I hear is negativity

Pondo Sinatra

Cracking pod lads! 👏 Loved every epic minute. 🇬🇧

Stewart Campbell

Beale has had 2 windows already , how many more do you allow him when there is no clear plan. As long as we are progressing and winning things it’s fine but seems no planning at all.

Thomas scroggie

So you think 2 is plenty to fix it ? With the mess and the state of the squad was in give the team a chance

Spoon

Can’t relate to the idea that the league is rubbish when we routinely make very hard work of these ‘non football’ teams. We don’t play attractive football or show much innovation ourselves, the first half of the pod was about we are a car crash in terms of set up, recruitment, style and coaching. The second part was about how Celtic are the same ( in fairness it was pretty much the same points of failure we have ) but we are blaming the league ? We should be embarrassed as league games should be a place we can develop a style, tactics and talent but we struggle year on year. I think the reality is that year on year the idea and concept of the Old Firm being big clubs is slowly dying outwith Scotland. We used to be big fish in a small pond now we are small fish in a puddle. Our problem is that with the resources we have we fail to make the best of it, we fail to develop youth, we have basically accepted that it’s impossible to beat a low block domestically but when we use it in Europe other teams rip through ours. We look around the league like we are miles above the other teams but the reality is we aren’t and you could argue they are at least making the most of what they have eg Kilmarnock. We have ideas above our station these days the same as most other big clubs from the 70s to 2000s. We just aren’t that good and beating dross week in week out (mostly) has made us think we are. Think we need to look at our own house, get it in order and have a reality check. This team might be decent at some point, I have my doubts that Beale isn’t a guy who used to sell magic beans but he might well turn it around as the squad quality seems decent for domestic games. It’s not all negative but it’s time to be realistic and if we have all the best coaches and the resources that others can only wish for let’s see something to buy into on the park.

Garry kirkwood

Can’t see a line up they don’t start Nat Phillips

Scott Leggate

You need Alex on these pods to balance the pessimism and negativity or it turns into a 2 hour bitching session.

Paul

Outstanding content boys. Stevie dropping the F bombs perfectly summed up the situation!

David A

If Alex Staff is not on the show there is no perspective, calm down lads, the title is on it`s way back to Ibrox where it belongs

David Bold

In total agreement with the tone of the pod. Celtic are dominating Scottish Football. This loser mentality that has infested its way into our support is absolutely tragic. RANGERS WIN TROPHIES. 2nd best is completely unacceptable. Possibly heard this wrong, but surely Steven did not compare Beale to Mr McLeish? Mr McLeish won his first 5 trophies, including an immediate double against a very good Celtic team.

Liam Johnson

Who was it recruited through the carwash idea? Listened a few times and can’t catch who.

Lynsey Roddy

Fabiola couple of hours there lads! Well done. I’m glad to hear Goldson getting called out as I think since his ‘decision to stay’ also known as ‘not as much interest in me as I’d hoped’ he’s been steadily getting worse to the point that he’s as much an issue as Tav & Borna yet he escapes the criticism they get. I’ll be honest & say my feeling towards him never recovered from the Europa Final when he continuously booted balls out for a goal kick everytime he attempted a long diagonal pass.Thankfully this year Souttar who’s a far better passer than him & (most of the other players too) seems to have taken over from him as our player who brings it out from the back.

scott skinner

Superb pod - I mean, I'm lying in a darkened room and have asked the wife to hide the bleach but still, a supreme effort and brilliant discussion.

Scott Watson

Tremendous pod gentlemen, thank you very much The talking point about the vastly differing challenges of european and domestic competition always strikes me as an interesting paradox. Adam regularly refers to them being "different sports" and Martyn covered in some detail how Souness was grappling with how to satisfy the competing demands as long ago as the 80s It all makes perfect sense - the requirements are so different you almost have to give up on one and focus on the other.... Except as you covered, Scottish teams routinely get humiliated by teams of no great stature due to technical inferiority - so where does it go wrong for us? If European sides with far fewer resources than us can consistently obliterate our lesser teams, why do we think we need to take a more industrial approach? 2-1 Rangers

Richard

I agree with David A. Pretty negative podcast on the eve of playing a highly important game against our biggest rivals. I have to say, first time I’ve disagreed with Steven on the preview. Ryan Jack is 31, not 41. When he plays, we’re a better team, in my opinion. He recycles the ball and does everything Steven Davis done for us. To write him off, was pretty disrespectful I thought - particularly when it’s likely he’ll play tomorrow. Matondo struggled last year under a different manager, and has excelled this year under a new system and a new manager. He’s been called up the wales squad, so he’s playing well - that doesn’t mean it’s desperate. The rangers support are on their feet when he gets the ball, when was the last time that happened? We all seem to forget how bad it was at the end of Gio’s rein. It was chronic. Beale brought consistency, and a direction. He wins on Sunday, he has two weeks to work on that team and progress more. I agree it’s not been great, but it’s old firm, and that maybe is what we need. Really struggling on the points around Scotland, our competitiveness and why our other teams aren’t making progress in Europe. Same story for the last 20 years. As someone who works in grassroots football every week, massive strides are being made, and some major talent is coming through, as well as massive commitment from Scottish coaches to learn and develop, but you can’t flick a switch and make that happen. You guys are right that most of our talent goes elsewhere, but that comes down to money, and agree that we need to get more money into the top teams to compete with other European leagues, but talent is coming through. Early days really. But I generally think we need to be more positive. P.s. if we get beat tomorrow I’ll be on here apologising. 👍

Shaun

Awesome listen lads 👌

David Angus

I get football has changed etc. but re: Cifuentes and "tracking runners is not his game", "he drifts in and out games" and "breaking up play defensively is not his game". God help us if he is in the engine room for us! What does a CM consist of nowadays cos those traits are 50% plus of being a CM. Hopefully he turns out better than the criteria detailed in this pod!

Douglas Wright

First time I haven't felt like I couldn't listen to the whole preview. Just too negative for me with no balance at all. I understand that we aren't where we want to be but think folk are expecting everything to be amazing immediately. Celtic didn't win during their rebuild away from home until November. Think a bit more perspective needed. If we are still like this in January then a pod with this tone would be expected

Jimmy Price

Brilliant pod guys, really enjoyed that... top work 👍 3-1 the Famous 🔴⚪️🔵

Gordon McCool

They booed O’Donnell and Donnelly after they were brought on as subs when it was announced they had signed pre contracts. Hypocrites then, hypocrites now. I actually ducking hate the bastards. 🤬🤬🤬

Mark

Stuart was a very good addition to the pod.

Norm

We are in Pot 1 with a Pot 4 team.

John Davidson

Great pod guys. You really simulated the match day experience of sitting beside the pensioners in the Sandy Jardine Stand. Could have thrown in a few 'get to fck Barisic/Tav' to make it even more realistic.

Ross F

A good podcast in isolation but if you’re looking for something to get you up for the game today, this isn’t it.

Allan Osborne

I listened to it all and was astounded at some of it, not least the attack on Hagi. I've had a few goes myself at aspects of the direction we're headed (I just don't see in Beale what others like Kev evidently do but no one will be happier than me to be proved wrong) but that was just wall to wall misery. We've not been very good this season but now and then we've shown in flashes there's something there. But doing nothing about the defence is Warburton levels of incompetence and I still can't believe Beale is happy with what he has. Frightening. Anyway, let's just do it today Rangers!

George Harrison

David, if you’re reading this, can we please have one of your rousing Battle Fever speeches to lift the mood !

Gregg

A very tough listen that

Jamie Gourlay

Repeating myself but i absolutely love this podcast and it's my favourite on the site. The longer the better when lots to discuss. Worth the monthly fee alone.

Steven Harrigan

Maybe, but Wednesday was a very tough watch. It wasn't just the loss, it was the manner of it. We did all take us for the win today.

Gregg

I didn’t listen to the first part as well haha. That’s true - onwards and upwards. Hope your team wins

Alastair McGeoch

Great pod but for me if Beale does not win old firm he should be gone. The pod did a great job of listing all the reasons why. Celtic are there to be got at today and we are talking more in hope rather than belief and again talking about the players owe us. The majority of the players have shown time and again they do not bounce back.

Graeme Homer

David I’ve said it before it’s the worse show on here. Stevie and Kev are just making Timmy porn week in week out.

Graeme Homer

That’s the last preview pod I’m gonna listen too. Easily the worse show now especially when strider isn’t on. It’s at Timmy porn levels of negativity and bitching about us.

Spoon

Should have said from start the discussion was spot on and thoroughly agree with all of it bar blaming the league, we are the architects of our own downfall. Stevie spot on with 99% of what he said, some reality needed asap.

Graeme Homer

It’s been this bad for a while, Steven has been negative for negative sake for ages now.

CRAIG CASSELLS

Loved the 2 plus hours as gave me something to listen to whilst painting the kitchen.Fantastic pod, covered all the pertinent points from Wednesday.

Alastair McGeoch

I think the mood of the podcast reflected the reality of what has subsequently been served up in the old firm game. The disallowed goal should not cover up the fact that this Celtic team are pish and we didn’t lay a glove on them.

Norm

Happy clappers assemble

Allan Osborne

I thought the pod went too far on the negatives but having watched that today we are back to square one and you guys were right. The guy's a trumped up wide boy. Talks a good game but isn't up to it when the chips are down. He needs to go, and go now.

Thomas scroggie

I commented on here on sat saying yous where negative but i apologise that today is unacceptable i was hoping more than anything but I think Beale is out his depth

Alex Hood

A caller phoned up Superscoreboard and used Steven’s exact analogy on going to the shops for bread and and milk and coming back with chocolate. Lol.
