Another great pod, guys👍 A weird thought that a total flop like Basile Boli was one of our top 5 sales in his position. I remember being excited when he signed. Couldn’t believe how poorly he played in his time at Rangers. I recall David Edgar pointing out on Dominant that this signing reflected a lack of strategic thinking. He partnered Richard Gough, a player who also liked to attack the ball, was right footed and lacked pace. Also that season we still went with a flat back four, whilst Boli had played in a back three at Marseille. The claim that he was played out of a position is overblown. Walter bizarrely selected him at right back in the AEK binfire but the great bulk of games he played centre half. We were so abject that night that this error made no difference to the outcome. The Boumsong deal lives long in the memory. A saw a link on X to an article on the web which claims that this deal prompted HMRC to look more closely at our finances and was the start of the road to 2012. Perhaps this is Celtic fans getting themselves excited! Thanks again for a great pod.
