Totally agree hoggy regards shankland. Better than dessers but doesn't mean he's what we need. I also think he's scoring goals against the rest of the spfl but as soon as he puts a Rangers strip on he won't get the time and space he's afforded at hearts. Doesn't matter anyway Clement won't buy him

Charlie Nicolson

Again, on Kent, I'm not in favour of bringing him back, but if he did return I'd obviously cheer him on. Can't be a loan, only if he's released on a free

David Clapperton

Hi folks thanks for the discussion on Kent and the 55s. Wasn’t really think hypothetically, it was more about who, if any, on current form would be any use to Clement’s squad. In all honesty the only one I would consider ( and it’s never going to happen in this decade) is Nathan Patterson. Tav should only have 12/18 months left and then be managed out so his succession plan should be starting now. With the goings on at Everton they might look to get what they can for players. The wee man probably would want to stay in England though but it’s worth asking the question for the summer surely?

Hoggy

No issues in asking. We’d be daft not to ask. However I suspect young Nathan’s trajectory takes him to another EPL club and £60k (at least) a week.

Gregg

Clement wants Kent - bring him home

Gregg

On shankland I’d agree it needs to be decent money as he should be 2nd or 3rd choice. I’m not sure it’s the no brainer some suggest - his goal return for a centre forward playing for the third side in Scotland is okay. Was last year the outlier?

Tamus

Is there any other fanbase or club so obsessed with bringing ex players back. I genuinely don't get it. Kent scored 3 goals in two years and was absolutely shit towards the end of his stay at Rangers, he played like he couldn't be arsed, purposely or otherwise. Stop looking back Rangers, FORWARD MARCH!!!!!

Charlie Nicolson

On "sign Scottish players" given we need to have Scottish players for European competition it's becoming an imperative. Shankland is the wrong end of the age profile, we need to identify players breaking through

Tamus

Dogging?

John Smith

What I would say Gregg is if he’s playing for Rangers, he’ll get a lot more chances to score than at Hearts. And that I think will shoot up his goal tally.

Gregg

You may well be right John. One of the stats guys - what’s his shot conversion rate, do we create better chances etc

Gregg

Counter argument on Kent - for the last few years the style of play (in Scotland) has been slow slow slow. Letting teams get back - our tactic was get it to Kent and hope he beat three men and set up a chance. Now we are more dynamic and getting it forward quicker - I think he could work better. For me it’s worth a go for 6 months but appreciate it’s not for everyone

Gregg

McCoist doing the robot against Aberdeen, albertz running the length of the park against Celtic, bomber jumping the hoardings at parkhead, Kent against Celtic, Katic in the same game, lovenkrands at hampden

Gregg

Also mind Goram celebrating Therns goal v them by doing cartwheels in the box and jumping into the crowd

John Johnston

Kent not for me, I think Clement will be looking at getting more out of Matondo which will benefit us more in short term. Hopefully Roofe will paid off in Jan and let Zack Lovelace take his place in the squad.

Charlie Nicolson

I liked the signature celebrations of Arfield's salute and Darcheville's bow

Kev Roberts

I may go and order this book right now WATP

Ben Laing

Shankland isn’t starting for Scotland and still preforming at a high level when he comes on.

Kev Roberts

Hoggy talking perfect sense about signing the best Scottish talent

John Davidson

We love siigning an ex-player don't we? I'd like a podcast series about those who have returned. I think it might highlight how few are successful second tine around.

Gary Shaw

Gazza and Gough clasping their hands over their head and sticking their tongues out.

Chris C

No for Kent from me. Bringing players back to their old club rarely works out. Kent was a decent player, no doubt. But, he was far too inconsistent and if you’re really honest - there was more bad than good in the time he was here. Anyway, enjoyed that Hoggy. Cheers.

Andrew Barrie

The Morelos throat-slit gesture was, of course, totally misunderstood by all and blown to cataclysmic proportions by the media. Culturally, to him and other south Americans, it means ''it's done'' or "it's over". He did the same against St Joseph's (I think) after we'd scored several

Andrew Barrie

On my favourite celebration, it's Kenny Miller in the LCF against St Mirren in 2010. For the sheer elation and relief, the llimbs in the stands, Miller jumping the advertising board and sprinting into the stands

David Booth

Tend to agree with Hoggy regarding the difference between Morelos and Kent last year regarding professionalism etc, but two caveats. The first is Ryan Kent played in an old firm semi final last season and literally didn't try. Morelos never did that, but his behaviour and attitude off the pitch meant he might aswell have. Secondly - a peak Morelos would walk into this team with no arguments, whereas I'm not sure Ryan Kent at his best would due to his numbers. But overall (and I say this as Alfie's biggest fan) let the past be the past and move on

David Booth

Would also take Aribo back in a heartbeat for what he offers on the ball and off it (set pieces etc)

John Palmer

Georgia game boring as Bat Piss and once again, Rangers players are picked and not played. I too grew up loving Scotland then fell out of love with it but now trying to get enthused because we're back playing better and the Team isn't Tim heavy.

Darren Littlejohn

What about Connor Barron being an option, end of his contract at the sheep

Scott Cameron

Look forward with signings and not backwards, Kent as it stands wouldn't get a game in front of Sima so a pointless loan signing. Far rather seek Clement develop Matondo/McAusland/Lovelace than bring back a player who went backwards far more than he created.

Scott Cameron

Shankland would be a £3/4m fee in January from Hearts and given the questionable accounts just posted we aren't paying that for a squad player. Already have wages out of control and a bloated squad when all are available. Anyone expected lots to happen in January will be disappointed

Graham Roy

Shankland yes for me a relatively low risk signing and will get 10-15 goals a season which we badly need outwith Danilo! £1.5 million plus Lowry would get him I reckon

Gregg

The accounts were okay mate - the papers will focus on us making a loss (apologies if I’m telling you something you already know) but there’s some large non cash items there such as deprecation and amortisation. Net cash inflow of £2m over two years when we have had significant investment in projects/ playing squad. To me - the accounts are perfectly normal without being spectacular.

Scott Cameron

wage bill for me is far too high and be highlighted even more in next accounts when turnover is less.

Gary Shaw

Hoggy I love the show mate, but come on,Raskin isn’t a better footballer than Ryan Jack…I think Raskin gives the ball away more in 1 game than Jack has in his Rangers career 😂

Gary Shaw

Raskin is tagged as a box to box midfielder 😂…his distribution is terrible, his shooting is howling and he has 1 goal in almost a year at the club…if he’s our best midfielder then we really are in trouble 😂

Spoon

Kent firing at his best was still underwhelming in terms of actual output. You get all the talk of his intangibles but none of the ghost stats people will throw up about 3rd assist or space creation are just excuses as they like the guy. If we want to actually commit to youth development the. We need to stop obsessing back the way to bang average players and look to use gaps in the squad as chances for youth players to come in. Half the reason we don’t give youth a chance is managers spending £30k a week on guys and then being terrified to drop them when they are gash. Kent’s poor output wasn’t limited to his last season but his attitude at the end alone should see him never come back. The snobbery around Shankland is ironic as many put forward guys like Kent as decent options while writing off guys who are actually doing it in our league with ‘lesser’ clubs. We should be poaching the best guys from Scotland we can, low risk, low wages, low fees even with the added tax the teams ask us to pay. Not saying these points were all made by you Hoggy but there is a narrative around Kent that omits all that downs and pretends there are more ups than the stats show.
