I hope we sign McCausland, but if he goes to Brentford then we have serious questions about the point of having an Academy. Sure, it’s nice for everyone to see former graduates go right to the top, but the club are effectively paying for others to come along and take them for next to nothing. I’ve have to ask if that money is being utilised in the best way for the club. If we aren’t getting the true benefit of them, then do we pare the Academy down and recruit players later in their development and run a B team with an U-19 side below, and have B- side players on better contracts with the Mahoney we save. I’d hate to see it personally, but if we keep loosing players to clubs like Brentford then I don’t see the point.

No email 🙄. Forgot to renew mygers at start of the season, didn’t think it would matter. Ffs.

This works for the likes of Brentford because they have world class academies where they can pick up top talent. Similarly in Scotland - the like of Falkirk tried to implement it - to much criticism. I don’t think it works for us - if the best Scottish talent isnt training with us it’s training with them. We also can’t have it both ways - we have picked up kids from other academies for peanuts. We need to find a way of showing the kids they have a pathway - it’s the only way we can compete with down south as we aren’t doing it financially
