Fresh off the back of Thursday's massive victory against Betis that saw Rangers progress to the Last 16 of the Europa League, Adam & Ally return to take a look at the tweaks Clement has made to the teams defensive approach.

We discuss the concept of rest defence (AKA Ally explains what it means) and how Rangers utilise this in and out of possession.

We also take a look at the huge impact Jack Butland has had on the team's overall performance so far this season.

We finish off with a quick look at tweaks Rangers have made to both offensive and defensive set pieces, with a few lovely stats thrown in for good measure.

Looking forward to listening to this later, Adam and ally provide a great insight

Great pod guys. It’s brilliant listening to 2 football geeks with such enthusiasm for the game putting it in (as close to) layman’s terms for me to understand! Butland’s stats vs us last season are incredible, however any potential fallout in losing McGregor’s intensity and gravitas does not seem to have happened so far. Roll on winning trophies now.

Fascinating insight lads. For an auld buffer from the 2-3-5 era it’s interesting to see how much attention is put on the video and statistical analysis nowadays. It did bring a smile to my face imagining Jock Wallace being shown some data on a pitch side laptop. 🤯😂 🥾

Good show! Enjoy hearing that level of analysis and detail you don't get elsewhere.

Adam, would it be possible for you and Ally to have a look at our full backs. Tav won't last forever. Is Devine the likely successor. On the left what is our best option between Borna and Ridvan?

Gary Brown

Really great show as usual, thanks Adam and Ally. It's always a really interesting, enjoyable & informative listen. The GK and xG save stats from last season to this is a shocking comparison. Betis seemed to specifically target our right hand side of defence, Tav & Goldson. Pellegrini knows a thing or two about the game. Just sayin! Always enjoy Tactics Talk, thanks again lads.

Why do you think under the last 3 managers do we always at throw ins just pass the ball back to the thrower?

Andrew Mundt

Adam, what do you make of Owen Beck at Dundee? The fact he's on loan at them aged 21 is a pretty sure fire sign he's never going to make it at Liverpool, but from what I've seen of him this season he's up there with the best LBs in the league. Still got a couple of years on his contract but got to be worth a conversation in the summer I'd think

The point about Lammers was an interesting one because I actually think the team plays better with him in it, although he doesn't really appear to contribute much towards that. Initially I'd put that down to the midfield options being better when Lammers was playing more at the start under Clement, but I think it also held true for the Betis game as well.

Andy

Great show as usual. Would you think about having a conversation on the role that Sterling has taken up this week and how it appears to have stabilised out midfield in a way that we haven't really seen prior to his inclusion?
