John Smith

Shankland is the best player in the country right now in my opinion. The best to pull on a maroon jersey since John Robertson and I am convinced he can be this generations Super Ally or at the very least Kris Boyd. In my opinion 5 million would be a bargain given the amount of goals he’d score.

Callum Dinnen

Shankland isn't a better striker than what we already have at the club IMO. I think he makes sense as a signing but not at the price Hearts would want.

Doogz

Confirmed by Fabrizio, magic big early business.

John Smith

I think the price can definitely be negotiated down Callum, especially in the summer. But honestly, I don’t think the fan base are prepared for just how good he would be. That’s no disrespect to Dani or even Big Cyriel whose turning in to a baller, but I really believe this would be as I said the best striker we’ve had since Boydy

David Innes

Watched the Edinburgh derby last night - he didn’t have his best game but was still the best player on the pitch by a country mile. I’m all in on signing him

Doogz

5mil for Shankland stop it John.

Jim Milne

If I'm Shankland I'd be pushing for a move next month. Not sure his value for what could be his 2nd last or last contract will get any bigger than it is. The problem is like we've said before Hearts will add a Rangers Tax, which is their right. I'm just not sure Clement will want to pay the entire January budget on one player, and let's be honest unless we sell after what we spent in the summer we won't have much to play with financially in the January market.

John Smith

I wouldn’t spend 5 million. I was just meaning hypothetically if we had to I think he’s worth it. But I agree we’ll be able to get the price down

Rona Bluebell

He wasn’t good but he did what was needed, on his own, and won the game. We could do with some of that. That we may not have 5m is frightening if that other lot have 72m to spare.

John Smith

My cousin who’s a Hearts supporter met him at a Tynecastle meet and greet night. Told me he’s never met a bigger bluenose..apart from me lol

John Smith

Not my first option Douglas but if we had to, I honestly think it would be worth it. I think we’ll get him for 2.5 in the summer

John Smith

The other thing is Rona, his all round game has drastically improved in the last few months. He’s holding the ball up better, able to drop deep and help out as well as get goals

Paul

Another " lost his way" signing. Some things change some things stay the same

John Smith

I think Shanks will be the biggest factor in getting the deal done Jim. Every Hearts fan knows where his heart lies, and yeah they don’t want to lose him, but from the ones I’ve spoke to he’s done more than enough already to be a hall of famer and he’s earned his move to the club of his dreams….for some dosh of course lol

Rona Bluebell

Oh I’d have him signed, no question, and am aware of his loyalty, but if we haven’t got the money then can’t see it happening unless he does a ‘down tools I want out’ dance but can’t see that either.

Rona Bluebell

And is Fabio just as good? Better? To we want to build on Shankland long term? Thankfully King Phil will know what to do 😄

Heart and Hand

This will be the case every window from now on, at least one player like that. Market we’re in. It’s only going to get worse too.

Fraser Martin

You just know the players would never ignore PC the way they blatantly disregarded instructions from both Gio and Beale.

Paul

I appreciate that. I just hope going forward we expand our scouting network . We can't be known as Rehabilitation FC ha!

Stuart McWilliams

Agree with you on resale value, not every signing needs to be sold for profit. Novo left on a free but when you consider how much some of his goals earned us, we made money by signing him. Shankland could be the same type of player.

Russ

Our fans laugh when the Hearts fanbase demand £5m+ but honestly, if I was their DoF and Rangers offered anything less than £5m I'd laugh and tell us to fuck off. Geniunely, he's scored over half their goals in the league this season - I don't think you can say the clichéd 'without him they'd be in trouble' because they would've bought in or adapted at the start of the season if he'd left but its fair to say they'd be worse off. It's probably reasonable to suggest they'd be in Aberdeen's position in the league, maybe even Motherwell. They'd want to cover the potential loss of European football for a start. I don't blame them in the slightest.

Scott Dickson

Realistically Shanks is worth £5million to Hearts because he is the difference between them getting group stage European football and not. Give it til summer and you might pick him up for around £3million, which is more realistic. Spending £5million on a 28 year old striker isn’t the best business. Good player and he would improve the squad, but spending £10million on him and Dessers who have a combined age of nearly 60, isn’t good “player trading”

Graeme McLeod

A loanee development loan and someone who can't score goals unless it's in Belgium or The Netherlands? Combining the best of Beale's policy here. Yay....

Paul Kerr

The price has to be right for us and I doubt it will be in Shanklands case. If we got some money in we could maybe be in the market, but anyone worth selling would need replacing. Portuguese lad hopefully does the business, cautious optimism. Have to trust the gaffer to plug the right gaps.

Russ

David have we actually had any reason for the Belgian influence at the club for the last few seasons? Is it agency driven or do the board think that Belgian football (Mens, Youth, Womens) is what we should aspire to?

Russ

It's obviously an executive decision because if it was purely Ross Wilsons mantra than it would've ended after he left?

Graeme McLeod

No idea why our fans get hung up on resale value considering how spectacularly bad we are in that regard anyway. The approach of trying to sign young guys with resale value hasn't brought much success on the pitch as well as off it.

Kiltedmapleleaf

Davie, you mentioned Scottish football and common sense in a statement..... Come on

Scott Watson

Hall of famer seems a bit over the top Hasn't made it to 100 appearances or 50 goals, no trophies, no finals, hasn't even got a 3rd place finish in the league yet

Stephen

I don’t mind the ‘lost their way’ signings. The right manager can get the best out of these guys. It’s the ‘ he was brilliant before he had a 2 career threatening injuries’ type of signings that we need to stop making 😂

John Smith

Think it shows just how much they love him Scott. Only another positive in my book 👍

Allan

Ross County could not travel the day before due to cost but Rangers must bear the cost of postponement such as stadium costs, catering costs, etc. Kudos to Rangers for donating the food.

Billy Forrester

3-3.5 million should secure Shankland, we should be paying that as it will secure the title and pay for itself 3-4 times over

Billy Forrester

So he isn’t better than Dessers, or Danilo, behave yourself. The lad would score the goals required to win us the title, we should pay the money now

Scott Tolmie

Having seen a fair bit of Fabio it’s a fantastic signing, great movement, very sharp, someone who can run away from defenders, honestly a no brainer this one

Brian Rae

Deciding not to travel down before a storm that had been forecast days prior is a club decision. Let's call it what it is. Penny-pinching by a club with no right or means to be in a professional division (like many others, I might add). As for the travelling supporters, I don't believe two car loads warrants cancelling a match affecting the plans of 47,000+ people not to mention the planning and cost required to facilitate that amount of people. Typical tinpot Scottish football that we should never give up looking for an escape route. As for Shankland, I'll be amazed If we are interested. He doesn't fit the player trading model that we have now finally implemented. Like many other Scottish players recently, we have missed the boat with him as IMO, anything over 1m is too much and I hope from now on, we get in early when they are affordable. i.e. David Watson (Killie) and Lennon Miller (Motherwell) should be brought in.

Doogz

I have no doubt he would do well for us, but cannot see us going anywhere near 5mil to another Scottish team plus wages, for guy 29 next birthday mate.

8luenose1872

The spfl didn't want us to go top if we win on Saturday?

Alastair McGeoch

Random fixture generator proved to be not so random when it surprisingly delivered the first old firm game of the 55 season exactly where both Neil Lennon and Peter Lawell said it should be. SPFL leadership are clowns, who regularly find ways to prove it time and again.

Heart and Hand

There’s no guarantee of that. And we can’t spend money we don’t have. While it’s unarguable we’d have been better putting the money into him than Lammers, we did put it into Lammers and we’re on the hook for that fee and those wages.

Billy Forrester

With our defensive record being best in league and our general play, if we get a proven striker who scores in the SPL I think it’s near enough a given we win the league as that mob are rotten, we need to find the money, surely getting to last 16 of Europa has provided funds, we cannot use Lammers and Dessers transfers as an excuse to not go in again, if we don’t get a proven striker and lose the league we will all be moaning like fuck saying we should have found money for a striker.

David Kiltie

If we had a better TV deal then perhaps clubs like Ross County wouldn’t have to penny-pinch. On a different theme, it makes me sick the number of tweets by Celtic fans trying to find fault in the club’s donation of food to the homeless- is there no end to their twisted hatred of our club?

David Kiltie

Not so sure, Billy. Hearts will calculate £3-4m from group stage football next season as the potential jeopardy for losing Shankland in January.

David Kiltie

Just like Miovski for the Sheep. The equivalent for us would be the prospect of losing Butland or Sima in January.

David Kiltie

Sima so far has been a great loan signing. I am resigned to a permanent deal being beyond us but that wouldn’t diminish the value of the loan. If we can build a reputation as providing an opportunity for players in the stronger leagues to rebuild their careers then that would be good for us.

David Kiltie

We wouldn’t want a “down tools” scenario anyway. We have enough friction with other clubs in Scotland as it is! Also if a player caused a stink to get a move to us then who’s to say he wouldn’t do the same to us to get a move a few years down the line?

Gary Brown

Thanks for the update David, always appreciated👍 A move for Shankland makes a lot of sense but i doubt it'll happen. Just don't see both clubs ever being able to agree even if a very good offer of a couple of million is made. Silva is undoubtely a talent given his history. He should be welcomed & encouraged by us all. Let's all give him a bit of time to settle. The lad will have enough to deal with. Undoubtely targeted by league hammer throwers, officials & mhedia. The team have a tough game on Saturday but they've shown recently they can handle tough away games. The league is definitely NOT 'all over' if we lose (just like it wasn't in Sept!). Not being defeatist, just looking at a realistic possibility! The manager understands the challenge and it is, remember, his first OF - away, with no support in the stands. But you can bet your last penny his instructions & tactics are 100% based on winning it.

Doug

If we can make a consistent success of it, being “Rehabilitation FC” could be an excellent reputation to have in order to get players in that might normally be a level too far.

Paul Kerr

Over 3m seems like bad business as well as out of our price range. What funds we do have need to stretch a bit further I don't think it's anywhere near as simple as sign him and win the league. The tims will be in the January market too. I would have Shankland if it was affordable because I see him potentially as a Novo who'll get game time and contribute hopefully whem it counts, missing Ferguson and Hickey were huge mistakes imo but that's also why I don't see the club paying that type of fee for a Scottish player at opposite end of his career. I just hope when the dust settles we have backed the manager to the limit of what we can. He can take us up a few levels given the tools.

Billy Forrester

3m for a proven striker in our league who would get 20+ Goals a season is not bad business, it’s savvy and would win us the title as all this team lacks is goals, add that and we are ready for 56
