Really don’t want Borna to still be at the club after the summer I would have sold him a couple of years ago. As for Yilmaz hopefully it’s because the club has a LB lined up and needs the squad and money space.

Paul

If the Ridvan deal's terms are correct, it's yet another shambolic business decision by the club. There is a potential buy clause.. FFS, buy him or don't. Borna getting a new contract sends out a worrying message.

Jim McCutcheon

Think it's a mistake regarding ridvan and the borna new contract 🤔 stating the obvious BB is reaching the end of his career and ridvan is young and has good potential he hasn't really got his chance for a run in the team imo ,aside from that impressed with the way things are going under Phil so trust his judgement, thanks again Colin 👍

Jim Milne

Goldson's comments are very telling. Letting Ridvan go and keeping Barasic is shocking to me, but I have faith in Clement and need to trust him on this one.

chris smith

…. is it all going a bit Pete Tong on the transfers front? :-(

Colin Mathie

Why in gods name are we possibly keeping Barasic?

Chris McFadyen

Just about shat myself when your notification pinged through

Gregg

I’m with Colin in that I like Ridvan - however I trust the manager and if he just doesnt fancy him then time to move on. Borna should be a back up - at absolute best. I’d be getting shaking his hand at the end of the season and wishing him well

Stuart Black

Colin tears 😂 Barisic > Ridvan

Steve Clark

We either trust the manager or we don’t.he has the final say on who he wants and doesn’t

Graham Roy

Ridvan is to unreliable so best he moves on and we upgrade. Borna as back up makes sense assuming we get someone in this window

Doug

If we're not keeping Yilmaz then giving Borna a new short term deal makes perfect sense to me so we have stable cover while we hopefully bring in a new first choice in the summer (if not now). People are quick to write Barisic off, but lets not forget this is a fullback whose record shows he provides an assist every four games, which is a solid return. I think the criticism of his crossing is overly simplistic at times, his record shows he's capable of varying his cross depending on the target. The top three players he has provided assists for are Morelos (11), Goldson (7) & Tavernier (7). When you look at these assists they line up with the strengths of the players receiving them. As such, all but one of his Goldson assists are to his head (the remainder being a tap in when Goldson followed in a Borna free kick). For Tavernier, he has four crosses to his head and three to his feet (usually a volley). Every single one though, is to that late run back post spot. That then leaves Morelos, who as a complete striker has the balance. Five crosses to feet, six to his head. All different types and various positions. Borna is more than just a deep lying crosser into the box. Yes he does that, but the cross aren't always going to the same area. He is capable of varying the ball depending on who he is crossing too. That's what makes him successful, not just the fact he whips them in.

Mark Boyd

Borna has played over 200 games for rangers in all competitions. The hate for him is strange to me.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the update Colin. Agree about Yilmaz, first time he's had a sustained injury free run in the team and is showing the best we've seen of him. But, I trust the manager.

Colin

I trust the manager too but it doesn’t mean he gets every single decision correct. No manager in our history has it won’t start with PC. The Borna stuff at the moment is just speculation. We will see if it happens or not.

Roy Donlon

Borna has been decent for a while now, he’s plenty good enough to be one of the two left backs at the club. Folk have made their mind up on him though, the constant bashing is boring

C. J

Borna getting a new deal would make me genuinely angry.

Roderick Boyle

I think we have to trust the manager as so far he hasn’t done much wrong compared to the disastrous time we had with Michael Beale who left a shambles .

Robert White

Yilmaz is pants. He has zero positional sense ,easily beaten and bullied. Overall Borna much more suited to our league. But yes, we need another like Doig.

Billy Forrester

Don’t actually believe anything football Scotland says, talk utter shite most of time. I highly doubt we will offer Borna a new deal unless is on a very low wage and as a back up

Sandy Fraser

If Barisic gets a new deal we’re finished

Billy Forrester

He is also capable of shitting himself in big games and has done so on many occasions especially in OF games, he has lost his ability now and passes back 9 times out of 10, thanks for his efforts but we need better to move on and improve

Doug

Don't get me wrong, in the medium term it is time to look at his replacement simply due to his age. That said, his flaws are significantly over-exaggerated. We know Borna can be a confidence player, meaning he has dips in form. That combined this year with a stint where our forward players were awful and providing few options. So he did have a period where his passing became negative, everyone could see it. That said, it was a phase and he has well and truly moved on from this. Overall, over the past 365 Days, vs other LB's in the Top 5 Leagues + UCL & UEL Borna stacks up well. The average per 90 for Passes into the Final Third is 3.23, Borna is 4, Passes into the Penalty Area 1.05, Borna is 1.4, Key Passes (a stat led by Trippier in the EPL) average per 90 is 1.01, Borna is 1.8. The key stat in that area, Progressive Passes per 90, average is 4.1, Borna just above average at 4.2 (interestingly enough lowest vs the Top 5 Leagues is Josh Doig at 1.65). That clearly shows Borna doesn't in fact pass back 9/10 times, quite the opposite. He just had a phase and people have latched on to it. But it's not the first time, due to Borna's tendency to have those dips. If he didn't have those dips though, he'd be in a Top 5 League.

Jim Milne

The hate is real because he bottles it all the time. Old Firm games, pretending to have cramp so he didn't have to penalty in the Europa Final. All he does 90% of the time is pass backwards.

Conor Brown

If we sell Ridvan for a loss in the same window as giving Barasic a new deal I'm phoning the police.

Billy Forrester

It’s not latching onto the phase it’s actually seeing for my eyes every week how negative he is, he has been a fine servant however his time is up for me if we really are serious about overtaking that mob, we need better than borna provides now. We need a younger more agile left back who can get up and down the wing, borna is not that man anymore

8luenose1872

Will Borna even stay if he a backup? If he decides to go we are fkd so that makes me think its practically a done deal that he's staying and not as backup. How can we keep a player who shitebags it in the big games in our league. How many times lately has he been injured for a game that will be a hard fight only to miraculously be fully fit for the next game 3 days later. We need better. I think Beales fkd up rebuild has set us back more than we know tbh coz I'm starting to think we will not be getting the couple of players we need in this window. I hope we don't get fed a line about trying but we couldn't get anything over the line.

8luenose1872

Borna shites it anytime its a game that's a battle mate, we can't go with him as our 1st choice or we will not be winning what we want to be winning.

8luenose1872

If he thinks borna is up for the battle in the big games in the league then he will regret it imo.

8luenose1872

He's good enough for most of the dross but in the games that are a battle he shites it far too often mate and can actually be the difference in winning or losing those type of games. Don't get me wrong he can pop up with an assist that might help us win but that's a rarity in those games.

8luenose1872

He will regret it if he thinks Borna will be up for the fight in the games against the usual suspects like them and the sheep. He shitebags it far to often when it really matters imo.

Graham Jones

Yilmaz has impressed me recently, but is he the first choice for this ma anger? I have no idea. We should’ve used Doig coming to us as leverage for Yilmaz going the other way, and we didn’t. I’ve no idea if that was by design, or if the Italians simply outmanoeuvred us there. Butland is simply way too good to remain in this league, and everyone knows it. If we keep him for tow seasons, then we will be doing very well, and it would be the right time to sell him probably. I said before when we last ran out own best v best programme that the players progressed better, and was pleased when they decided not to lpay in the Lowland League again.

Craig

For a player with his physique and ability he absolutely shits his shorts and needs some CBT to channel out whatever noise he hears. I’ve also read that he’s fairly well connected and should be walking on the pitch like he’s a don/capo - either way - does he have the testicular fortitude to be a reliable Rangers player. At times I would have Devine in there on some days. I say this after a pretty good season so far too. Get the bandage back on and fine him for every back pass. I’d take Yilmaz if I was picking my team - he’s short but brings a new dynamic which is refreshing. I trust Clement & maybe we should do as he has and give everyone a clean slate. ‘He turns and goes…backwards mostly now’ Possible confirmation bias .

Not surprised we’re having to sell in this window - need to recoup some of the money we set on fire in the summer. If we do replace Yilmaz it will be with a low cost loan option

Gary Brown

For sure. No one is perfect. However I do reckon we fans need to think about this at a wider scope and consider the longer time frame. Personally I really like Ridvan and would keep. He's a different type of LB, technically a more competent ball player. Young enough to develop & improve. But PC places great emphasis on attitude, adaptablity & teamwork, maybe that's where Ridvan is lacking. Borna is what he is. After all this time we've all seen the best, and worst, of him. Not getting any younger! I'll offer a suggestion we may be overlooking - Dujon Sterling at LB. Has played there before. Has shown he's technically gifted enough to play higher up the park and pass accurately. So no fears about him getting forward. Certainly shown he's mobile enough, so no fears re tracking back. Already said and demonstrated he wants to play, anywhere, to help the team. Both he & PC have said this even joking about at GK! Our injured mids are coming back so would fully expect him as the 'out of position' player to make way. The LB 'puzzle' is one PC might not be able to solve this window. There's a lot of console coaches in our fanbase who expect instant fixes! Reckon we need to be mature and let the gaffer get who he wants.
