Simon welcomes Ryan, Andy and Iain to discuss the departure of Sam Lammers as well as other potential outgoings.

Unsurprisingly, the conversation turns to Lawrence Shankland as all 4 of the podders reach an overwhelming consensus.

They also discuss the latest EPL transfer news.

Window has been pretty underwhelming so far … yes I know we are only half way thru, but it seems obvious that we are trying and failing to get initial targets and this thing where the clubs comes out with this hoary old “we were never interested in him” thing, while understandable on some level is getting very old, very quickly … and we now seem to be back rooting around the lower leagues in England again …

Iain Campbell

Clearly we read to much into Dowell. We all agreed we would like him to stay

Latimer

I think the reality regard any chance of signing Shankland is we need to sell to buy to balance the books FFP wise.

Kirk Guthrie

I still have 0 interest in Shankland

Kirk Guthrie

He's old news I guess? If we haven't moved for him in recent years, I don't see why we would now that he'll be more expensive with hearts depending on him. I don't think he's very dynamic, or quick. I can admit a sort of bias against other Scottish players who havent been in or around Rangers. I'd rather see a foreigner or young player coming in. Although, we need someone who can hit the ground running in this league. Honestly my opinion is more personal than rooted in facts or numbers 😅

Mark Boyd

Couldn’t agree more with the blame distribution at rangers. Lundstram is an issue when we don’t score goals. Its like blaming Ian Ferguson for a nil nil in the 90s. 55 season we had Defoe, roofe, Alfie, Kent and tav all scoring. We lack goals. Get shanks

Chris Scott

I'm going to have to go and watch more of this Shankland lad, he sounds like he's going to be bound for City or Real.

Get the feeling this window is going to be another loan/loan to buy best case and that’ll be it. If Yilmaz goes then we have to get a LB, but ideally we need a CF, LB and a RW. It’s madness we never went back in for Whittaker in the summer when Plymouth got him for £1.5million (and a fairly low wage by Championship standards). He’s now scored 15 goals this season, being linked with 8 figure moves and scores from outside the box. instead we spent more than double on Lammers (in transfer fee and probably wages), who we could all see was dire from his previous record. Still no closer to solving the RW position, McAusland is fine but we need competition there

According to the Rangers Review Dowell did travel to Spain. Apparently he joined up with the squad late due to a personal issue. As you guys have suggested I think he’s a decent squad/bench option for us. Regarding the window as we’ve all said another striker is a must. If that’s Shankland great, however I get the feeling Hearts will hold out for a fee we’re not prepared to pay. In terms of RW I like the look of Manhoef and by the sounds of the asking price it seems like a cracking deal if we could get that done. Otherwise I didn’t expect LB to be a priority this window however if we can get decent money in for Ridvan either now or in the summer after a six month loan then realistically it makes sense to sell a sellable asset in my mind. I’m hoping the talk of a an extension to Borna’s contract is maybe a ploy to root out a buyer now and get some cash in for him. The links with Bulat and or Zambrano are exciting and if they are true they could be a great signing, however I think we’re more likely to address the midfield this summer.

Agree with all of the points on Shankland. I hope the club push the boat out this window to get him . Celtic find it difficult to control him in that Hearts team. He would be a major weapon in our arsenal , for results. . I think he has better mobility than Boyd did. With the pace in our team from forward areas, He doesn’t need to have that fitness attribute. Speed is actually a fitness component that you can develop , so, it shouldn’t be a concern buying him. I think Kris Boyd is accurate in his assumption, that Shankland is the best finisher in the SPL. When he stated that Rangers must use every transfer window , that made a lot of sense to me. The team with the best acquisitions in this window, have every chance of winning the main prize. We just need to hope things are moving behind the club.🇬🇧

Ryan McMillan

I thought that was the case, if you listen back, you’ll hear that I did not add to the Dowell speculation

Rona Bluebell

Sometimes feel like we’d turn our nose up at McCoist if he were starting out at St Johnstone today. Shankland scores in this league. That alone works for me.

Spoon

The reliance on loans just kicks problems into the long grass, need to start forward planning and stop having to constantly react every window

Don Maclean

Yeah, tbh I’m easy either way. if we could flip him for a bit of a fee now and free up wages I’d be happy with that too. Great pod as usual.👍

Darren Littlejohn

Is Sam Lamers just Brandon Barker with better hair?

David Carslaw

Barco's been one of the highest rated developing left backs on he last couple of FIFAs. Maybe 2e should be using that for our scouting.

Gregg McKee

Hearts want £5m for Shankland this window. We aren’t interested at that price obviously

Sandy Sproul

Shankland walking over broken glass is about right, but known our luck he'll be out for the rest of the season 🤦🤣

Pedro

For home grown status the player has to be trained in nation for 3 years between the ages of 15 and either 21 or 23. So for example Lovelace would be homegrown in Scotland at the end of next season

Bob MacCallum

Managers know nothing. Proof? Werner and Havertz, flops at Chelsea, now at Spurs and Arsenal. Crazy! Will they never learn? I'd be horrified if WE had signed either.

Kev Roberts

Definitely definitely sign shankland

Jamiedfa

Great pod and bang in about leadership up front, and Kent

Angus Mackay

Good show, lads. I would only be letting Dowell go if he allowed us to bring in a proper 6 like the lad from Equador.

Barry Kerr

On the Shankland chat the comparisons with Boyd are so lazy. Kris Boyd was 23 when we signed him and had 3 seasons of big numbers. Shankland has done it once at 28 where the bulk of his goals were penalties. He plays every minute of every game for Hearts which he won't do for us given Clements habit with rotation. Andy saying he will hit the target 9 times out of 10 his stats don't back that up 29 of his 75 shots at goal have hit the target. Under Clement we don't play with a penalty box striker either so much more expected of them than that. For the money Hearts want its not happening
