John Hood

What date was part 1 released?

Steven Elder

Was waiting patiently for this. Really enjoyed the first one.

John Smith

Music has the power to make you feel things you didn’t know were possible. I wasn’t born when Freddie Mercury and Kurt Cobain died, but I feel genuine grief when I hear their work. To know these geniuses were just taken from the world. That’s why you can’t help but shed tears when you hear Karen Carpenter. Because in amongst all that beautiful sound, there’s so much pain. It’s why when you listen to Bon Scott you’re rocking but also will catch yourself with a lump in your throat. Art in general has a special ability to give you an instant connection to someone. It’s why I weeped for many hours the day Sir Sean Connery died. I grew up watching his films and to me he was another member of my family. Same way I feel about Arnold and Sly. To me that’s magical. Excellent show boys

Iain Macfarlane

Excellent pod, plenty new shit for my commute - gutted there was no wolftones on the countdown! Love the EELS addition and the discussion about the song.

John Walker

Great stuff David and Alan. A lot of bands in there that I've never listened to ( guided by angels apart) but some definitely worth a try. Love the boys don't cry story , one of the few I can play, so maybe a duet 😛. Great that you can talk about your dark days. Over here in Australia it is a major killer and through the union and bodies like mates in construction we try to help workers going through those dark days and get them to speak about it. All that apart great listen and love the concept ( sign me up Al).

Alan Bradley

Glad you enjoyed it Johnnie. Surprised that David didn’t pick Genesis as one of his favourites, but agree some smashing band choices within his journey. Agree re dark days and the importance of sharing feelings with others. You’re on the list pal, I know how much you love your music, should be an enjoyable episode.

Colin Gilchrist

2007, driving with my mate from Glasgow to Glastonbury and he put on Boys & Girls in America. Totally blown away with that album. The Hold Steady played the John Peel tent and were the highlight of an excellent festival. Have loved them ever since. Totally recommend others check them out starting with boys and girls. You doing the weekender this year in London?

Colin Gilchrist

Love that you included Stars. I love their gigs in King Tuts. Such a joyous, melodic band. Can’t believe they aren’t bigger. Such a great back catalogue of songs but still producing great music

Colin Gilchrist

Was at that beach slang gig at Mono. Hadn’t joined the dots that this was you at H&H. You weren’t bad at all

Greg Cameron

Superb listen again chaps. If the Grant Lee Buffalo song is a B side then that bodes well for checking out the rest of their back catalogue this week on the commute.

stevan castrissios

A big dose of music therapy from heart and hand. Superb. I thought of many songs during your yarn. I recommend, ‘Temple Head’ by Trans Global Underground to lift the spirits. How about ‘up with people’, by Lamb Chop. Yeah, Lamb Chop. The zero 7 mix is fab.

Gregor McNeish

David, check out Mandolin Orange (now Watchhouse Band)

Niall MacKay

Sparks song has some shades of the Delgados in there. Never quite put them together before.

Alan Bradley

We’ll just need to watch that Davie doesn’t bring a support band to future H&H live shows. 😂

Kenny Davidson

Lambchop at the old fruit market about 20 years ago. Full band stage full with musicians. Made the quietest noise possible.

Kirk Guthrie

Speaking of Franz Nikolai, have you listened to the world/inferno friendship society David? I'd recommend them, but I know your attitude about musical suggestions lol

David Tod

Took my then partner to the Sigur Ros gig at the Armadillo. Half way through I asked if she was enjoying it and her response was “I don’t know yet.”

Kirk Guthrie

Really really enjoyed this episode, I think I'll give it another listen after work when I can sit down.

David Welsh

Great music and discussion, guys; this and part 1 absolutely flew by. Brilliant to hear Tobin Sprout in there and I totally get the parallels between Guided by Voices and The Fall, quite possibly my two favorite bands. To misquote Mark E. Smith, “if it’s Robert Pollard and yer granny on bongos, it’s GBV”, but to have Tobin Spout as your “#2” songwriter, how lucky can one band get?

Colin Cahoon

Love the concept of this and the openers have been superb, so thanks for that. One annoying suggestion. Any chance we can have the pods supported by a tracklist referencing the artists and songs to set us off on a exploration of potential new favourite music. Cheers Guys, good luck topping this one Alan. 😉😉😉

Derek Murray

Alan- Fantastic new show format! Loved that 2 parter - as mentioned with the daily update always a wee memory or an introduction to a new band- some good quality music and background info..albeit some a tad middle of the road compared to Fingers.. 😘 Get yours done next and reverse the roles? … oh no wait … a prog anthology ??

Alan Bradley

Cheers Derek Ha. If I picked several of my prog songs, we’d need half a dozen episodes.

Andy Forgrieve

Great job David and Alan, loved both shows - excellent songs and I now have a maze of rabbit holes to go down on Spotify! Maybe each winter break we need a Heart and Hand Top 5 albums of the last year :)

Stuart Campbell

Excellent show lads. More music the better. Got me off down a Guided by Voices trip.

John Palmer

I loved the first installment of Alan and David but this Episode was outstanding. I loved the Enthusiasm, Energy and Honesty that was put into this. @David - I've been suffering from Depression and Anxiety for the past 10 yrs, it's been hard and taken me to some dark places, I've even had so called friends turn their backs on me even after I told them I was struggling and needed help, they dropped me like a bad habit as it was evident that they were not real friends in the end, and didn't hold me in the same regard that I held them in. Listening to you and H&H does feel like a community and something I love having as part of my Daily routine. @Alan - Your segments are superb and I love listening to everyone's musical journey. If I ever pluck up the courage, I'll email you and maybe come on and give it a go.

Simon

I have to listen to instrumental stuff while working otherwise I just sing along in my head. Favourite discoveries in the past 12 months has been Godspeed You Black Emperor, Pye Corner Audio and Max Richter

Alan Bradley

No courage needed to share the journey John, you’re more than welcome to join me at any time pal, just let me know whenever you’re up for it.

Simon

Max Richter - Memory House Pye Corner Audio - sleep Games GSYBE - F#A# (The song East Hastings is a work of art)

Gregg

Enjoyed this - assumed it would be full of chin stroking wankery but it’s actually pretty decent. Surprised 😂

Derek Stevenson

Loved this David! I remember going to see Sigur Ros at the Carling Academy. A group of us had a bright idea to go to some cheap curry place. Starters were dosa’s and they were the size of a coffee table! Then the curries and breads came along with the beers. More Tuborg 🤢 at the gig and then Sigur Ros open up with one of them playing guitar with a violin bow. And the Icelandic warbles began. A great if not very long gig after the curries sat neck high all night!

Heart and Hand

There’s a fair amount of chin-stroking wankery. I would be incredibly disappointed if the chin-stroking wankery I was hoping to convey was missing 😀

Heart and Hand

Hahaha I can absolutely empathise - Sal and I went for a curry once before a gig, never again for that exact reason. Just felt bloated and distracted all night!

Craig Fryatt

The Weight , just one of the best songs ever

Iain

Can anyone link the Fleetwood Mac YouTube video that David was talking about. It's the one where Buckingham and Nick's are singing AT each other and it'd the song about them breaking up. Ive seen the video before but can't for the life of me remember what it is. Oh and love these 2 episodes. My brother and David would get on swimmingly. I think by brother would out chin stroke wank David though.

Iain

It really is. The Last Waltz version with the Staples is just incredible too and actually my fav version

Iain

Isn't Silver Springs?? (Now I'm talking to myself haha)

Heart and Hand

So intense. The last two minutes, there might be 30,000 people there but they are the only people in that room!

Craig Fryatt

I’d have it up there with Hotel California, November Rain and Bohemian Rhapsody as musical masterpieces

Iain

Brilliant!!! Thank you mate. And oooft, that is intense.

Kevin Blyth

These ones are a great listen. I always listen to them in the car so really appreciate you creating the Spotify list to go back and listen to again. A fantastic way to increase your musical tastes, so well done Alan on a great programme!
