My thoughts exactly regarding a number 9. It's absolutely crazy to think we can go through the rest of the season with only Dessers and Silva, Silva is not an out and out forward so we are literally a Dessers injury or loss of form from a disaster, it will be the same scenario and what ifs we had after getting to the final in Seville and not having a recognised striker. Surely to hell we can get a 6 month loan from somewhere, especially if it's the difference between automatic champions League money and not come the end of the season.

It’s got nothing to do with the manager if the board don’t deliver a striker for him, so I just hope they can deliver for him or it’s on them for a change. The manager takes full responsibility for results, so the board should do the same for recruiting players that he needs. This will determine whether they have learned from past mistakes. They learned with the management recruitment, so let’s see if they can deliver when they need to this time with players.

I think we have to bite the bullet and go in for Shankland , albeit , we will have to pay over the odds for the player as Hearts hold the trump card here . Our ultimate aim is to win the SPL and that opens the door to the much needed Champions League money which we desperately require and with no strength in depth whatsoever up front we have to make that move , unless that is the Manager can produce someone at the last minute who can be a striker of note as I’m sure that Silva is not going to be the out and out striker we require .

Shaping up to a disappointing end to the window. To me it feels like the money wasted in the summer is coming back to bite us in the arse. We have a golden opportunity to win the league and we can’t afford to give the manager what he needs. At this point I’d take Van Veen just as a cheap option to play against the dross

A striker was essential before the window even opened. Are we going with what we have due to being committed to developing another clubs player in Silva, having promised him game time etc? If so, That's unacceptable. Our title hopes come before player development, especially if he's not even ours. The board need to deliver here.

Thanks for the update David. Sadly it's now shouts of get ANY striker in. Deary me. The Beale Bonanza shopping spree was caused by clamouring for more & more players. Panic buying. The Manager has already said he won't buy unless the player can improve the team and has the right attitude. Silva is being totally dissed in all of this. He scored goals in Belgium & Holland far, far, better leagues than here. Look at the stats. We are scoring goals from other areas. We can win the league with who we have now. It will certainly be easier if we can strengthen. No matter how much some fans or the club AND manger might want it the Shankland deal might just not be possible. All the furore about keeping SJB by our fans & club is identical to how Hearts fans & club feel about Shankland. Van Veen could be a decent punt for a 'someone, anyone' type deal. But guaranteed Koppen's big book of desirable strikers has more names in it than Shankland & Van Veen! Fingers crossed for something nice to breeze in through that little gap before the slam. The manager is no mug. Keep believing!

Not sure what implication this has on title race. They've hardly had a brilliant window either. Probably goes to the wire but feels like a real opportunity missed if we don't get a striker. Toying with LB all window when we need a CF seems just about right tho for us

We wouldnt begin the season with 1 no.9. So to go into the 2nd half of the season without another striker in the door is unthinkable. Another striker today is a must.

Agreed mate. January is the worst time to rush into things too with a heightened valuation. I know Silva isn’t exactly an out and out striker, but he is a forward with a decent record last season. I think Cortes coming in implies that Silva will play more centrally. Another striker would be nice, yes. However ultimately we have to live within our means and I think this window will have been a logical way of doing that while maintaining the title challenge if/when Cortes goes through. Trusting in Big Phil ultimately. Man’s done enough to earn it!

Why is it on the board? The manager has went for 2 wingers and an attacking midfield (for £4.5m), so he has been backed but decided rightly or probably wrong to focus elsewhere

It's surely not on the board if a striker doesn't come in. Others make those decisions and they have went with an attacking midfielder for £4.5m, who looks very similar in style to Cantwell. Could very easily have spent that on a much needed striker first

Agree with you on most things but today you’re basically saying if we don’t bring in a striker the manager & technical director have failed because there’s definitely one out there for us that they should have got & now have questions to answer, that’s no entirely fair in my opinion. Has a lot of what happens this week not depended on Jefte coming in so we could get a fee for Ridvan? I think there’s probably a reason why the deals we have done are all loans or loans to buy till the summer & if we’re no spending money till then it’ll make the task of getting a striker in far more difficult. Just my opinion, though probably a mile off as usual.

Nah, it’s a fair shout. I just feel we’ll regret not bringing one in. Diomande and Cortes are exciting players and I look forward to seeing them but I feel the main area we’re short in is striker.

I think a few people need to take stock. We can't carry on chucking money at the squad, not when our wage budget is as grossly huge as it currently is. In an ideal world, we would have sold all the shite we didn't want and bought new gear, but that's not the way it works. We were incredibly limited by what we could get done in this window, because we messed up the summer transfer window so badly. That's on the board and on Beale. Not Koppen or Clement. We were basically relying on Ridvan being sold to free us up a bit of cash to work with. We need to stop dishing out massive contracts to guys who can't stay fit, and then we might find ourselves in a better position, to be a bit more nimble in the market. Likewise, we basically have two to three massive earners injured most months of the year. Roofe, Davies and Dowell, Lawrence at times too. Have all been non factors this season. We cannot carry on like that, it's not value for money. Genuinely shudder to think how much we're paying the four of them per week. Diomande covers the gap left by the Dowell injury and the loan of Lammers, no doubt he can cover the likes of Jack and Raskin too. Cortes is basically a straight swap for Sima at the moment. Although, I've read he can play all across the front three like Sima can. Fabio Silva was/is the striker we brought in to cover Danilo's injury. Some people might not like to hear that. But that is his purpose. He scored 16 goals last season on loan across two different clubs and in two different Leagues. Got to give him a bit of time to bed in.

David anychance next time you get an opportunity you could enquire about Zak Lovelace would love to see him doing well for us I know he was injured but hoping there's a plan to get him minutes when fit
