Hoggy is back with Cammy to review the transfer window and (knowing we're a bit hamstrung by bad decision making), are there positives?

Are we weaker or stronger compared to January 1st?  How it sets us up and the lookahead to the next run of games  Lookback on previous winter windows - it's the hope that kills you!

I just misread 'Cathartic' and thought you two were heading for the front page of the Record again. Clearly haven't woken up yet!

A great Saturday morning listen Gentlemen. Hopefully we won’t be visiting Pittodrie this season and best of luck in the pursuit of a club blazer.

John Smith

That’s right woodchuck chuckers it’s….GROUNDHOG DAY !!!!!!

David_Davy_Dave

Yes to lucky red shirt On the other hand have we worn the orange and navy stripes since we lost at Killie?

Gregg

If we’d got silva in on deadline day - and shipped hammers out on the same day the narrative changes. I’d almost forgotten we’d signed silva is seems so long ago. Onward

Rona Bluebell

Brilliant show Hoggy and Cammy. 💙

Still think it was madness not to bring in a 9 even if it was only Van Veen as back up.

Enjoyed the pod gents. Think it’s possible to have hope for the rest of the season based on the gaffers impact, a decent squad (if it all clicks) but simultaneously feel the lack of fit strikers could come back to bite us…again. I would have signed Shankland at £3-£4 million. I don’t believe in the market for a proven striker on our own league with zero time to bed in needed it’s a huge outlay, we need to look at the Lammers / Dessers / Cortes money and stop trying to constantly low ball teams or under pay. I don’t like loans, I don’t get the hype around Silva and as it stands he might be great, average or gash. The idea that a guy who hasn’t played for a while, isn’t a recognised goal scorer and hasn’t set the world alight is a catch doesn’t scan for me. If we announce a long last day it doesn’t make the window any better at all for me it’s a loan the same way as Ramsey was. The boy could be spectacular and I hope he is but it’s blind faith and projected hope more than cold stats. The striker issue is in focus simply as we have done this before and fell foul of it. We just aren’t learning from our mistakes. Which seems criminal. The other two players we brought in could well be good as prospects, however our window, if your being harsh, was two youth players younger than McCausland and an expensive loan. The positives are that they are real talents and we can get mileage and money further down the line but I think it’s fair for people to be underwhelmed by the business and recognise we have gambled. Personally I am both really positive about our chances and how the boss has us set up but the transfer policy seems like another window we have t quite got it together and we focused outward when there’s a real need to get back to domestic products. Sounds like I’m having a go but it’s not a the new management team, I do however think the board have a hell of a lot to answer for yet again in this window. A quick last point, for me Roofe has been a waste of money and he did with us what he has done his whole career. He came in gave us a decent season and then spent the rest of his contract injured. He did it in England and Belgium, he just hasn’t contributed for what we paid. Never mind his wages his medical bills must be horrendous. Legendary status ? Not for me, played too few game and his injuries didn’t start here, part of that transfer mess this board have contributed to. You guys are spot on, the hope we go into the second half of the season with comes from the uptick in our damaged squad, a new clear mentality shift and the absolute trust the manager gives that he knows what he is doing. My only question is I wonder if he was told off table it was a stabilise this season and really go for it next season. They won’t vet say that to the fans and I am sure PC wants to win every game but he seems pragmatic and I wonder if next year is the big push. All the best gents, great chat👍🏻

Has a good portion of our summer transfer budget been spent already?

Angus Mackay

Thanks guys. I agree, Hoggy, there’s cause for optimism but no room for even an ounce of complacency. Another good day today; onwards and upwards.

Gregg

Had a different view of the game from lower down - thought silva was very impressive. I don’t like loans either - but he has something about him. Could be a big player for us.

Spoon

Let’s hope so mate, it’s not him personallyI don’t like it’s loans in general, they just don’t excite me. Silva showed some good touches and took his goal well, he does well we do well so by no means hoping he fails, just think there were better options and longer term solutions than a risky loan. Being positive I’m really hoping Lovelace comes back in and gets a chance think he could be a real player for us.

Blue Ninja

Great pod guys but still disagree about Shankland. I believe him scoring 15 goals by end of season will have guaranteed the title and CL money.

Rian Clark

Can’t wait hoggy 🇬🇧🇬🇧

Hoggy

Yeah I agree with this. Amazing a couple of results and we’re all thinking positively again!

Hoggy

I thought Silva was excellent. I’d say yes to Shankland but not at £4m. I liked yesterday. Threat and goals from all over the pitch. Let’s enjoy it. Until Tuesday!

Spoon

Problem is Hoggy it’s fine until it isn’t fine, then it’s a huge issue not having strikers….again. Silva did fine but let’s be honest he’s a punt, educated no doubt but a punt likeRamsey was signed on rep and ‘value’ more than his recorded output. I absolutely trust PC to get the best out of any players we get in but he can only work with what he has and my view is not giving him the options for the run in up front is a gamble we don’t need to take. Very much hope Zak can break in and come back from injury so it might well be a masterstroke. Hope it is, but is remains a gamble. I would have paid for Shankland as I believe that £4-£5 million for a proven goalscorer already acclimatised to your own league and scoring again the teams you play against isn’t OTT. I don’t subscribe to all the chat about his limitations and it’s as likely he improves playing in a better set up with better players. I can’t say that for certain any more than those who knock him but that’s the issue neither view is fact, the odds are that he continues his output though as the variables in terms of opposition and league etc don’t change. Sounds like negatives but I’m really not at all negative about the team or what Clement is getting from them, simply feel we need to move the sights closer to home and sign the guys right under our nose instead of ignoring them. The boy is the top scorer in our league for a reason, he is also just my type of player and think he would be excellent for us. I think the fact the orca would have taken him with all his known inclinations tells you everything about the boy. Totally agree on the performance yesterday and if PC can keep that energy and output up then I’m wrong and board were right. Certainly not suggesting it’s a disaster but would have liked to see someone at club complement our foreign scouting with some good old fashioned plucking of local top talent. In no way not enjoying it, chance missed to put down a huge marker of intent not a mistake made …. Unless we end up playing a midfielder up front again ! 👍🏻
