David, appreciate the big news this week is going top but do you know what Cantwells contract situ is? It's not published anywhere.

Russ

What a lineup!

Graham McCallum

The next two games are absolutely huge at this stage of the season. I think no matter what the gaffer says he’s been ticking these players over for occasions like this

David Kelly

Really good listen and totally agree regarding the manager. I remember listening to the ex Southampton CEO on a radio show a few weeks back and he was referencing the first couple of months when they hired Hasenhüttl. Apparently he was very concise and assertive in delivering his training and always referred back to the term “prove points” and how players relate to this. As in, if you do x, y and z then you will achieve the desired outcomes, thus proving the theory. I feel this is quite relevant here as Clement seems very assured prior to games, such as away in Betis for example, when he really got the team believing if they carry out the instructions given, they will succeed. This subsequently builds trust and therefore momentum with the players as they can clearly see the instructions are resulting in positive outcomes. And totally agree about the enthusiasm for Saturday. I live down in Bristol and don’t get to as many games as I would like but travelling up on the Friday evening and can’t wait!

David Gardner

Good pod guys and some really good discussion - I have to be honest, I’m surprised at the level of happiness around Dessers. I want the guy to do well but he is not good enough for us. If we can win the league and all is rosey in the garden we should and need to try and recoup the money spent on him in the summer - far better players available than him. Shankland and Miovski are ahead of him in the SPL.

Graeme Brown

Although VAR’s not perfect (…well, the people using it aren’t anyway), would we have gotten either penalty we were awarded on Sunday without it? It’s purely hypothetical, but I’m fairly confident the answer would be “no”. The idea of doing away with it - and relying on officials who are terrified of the consequences of making the correct decision - doesn’t bear thinking about.

Ryan Jardine

McGowan on the flagship. Superb.

Gary Brown

Thanks for the Flagship David and only fair Andy & Martyn get to talk about good stuff for a change. Plenty of great opinions and analysis guys. Totally agree the fanbase are as, if not more, guilty of the poor mindset. The anxiety, panic and most importantly squealing at them has put them off far too often. Most notably at Ibrox. Even at 2-0. Last 15-20 mins when without fail, the opponents decide to have a go. They KNOW the Ibrox crowd will panic and turn on our players. The big guy is realistic, calm and assured. (Not something we're used to in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿). Gives the media nothing to spin, no soundbites to exaggerate. It's been clear since his first presser the man has presence. He exudes control. Passion & desire undoubtely but controlled. Has the experience to back himself, took a 'small' club Bruges to be regular champions and be competitive in UCL, plus operate the player trading model - exactly what Rangers, need. He's clever, adapatable, manages and plays the game in a very modern way. So far we have only seen him steadying the ship, lots more.to come. Has been a quantum leap since the break because he has them fitter (& where possible selectable). He points out the ridiculous nature of the 'Jockanese' decisions, without drama. Like a Barrister - What is any reasonable person supposed to think about this? The facts speak for themselves! Dessers is offside far less often now he's fitter. I'll say it Andy - Super Ally missed loads of chances, admits it too. 21/22 is maybe the closest reverse comparison, dreadful start by them, us comfortable at Xmas. Post break, just too much football to play for us. The UEL run covered up, but ultimately caused, our downfall and the league season 'mis-remembered' as "a disaster, a catastrophe" (in a Tommy Sheridan stylie!) but it was not. Only 4 pts, (& re-examine games on 20/2/22 and that's wiped out!) but a Euro Final! And then recovering for a Scottish Cup win! The Betis OR Aberdeen Lge Cup Final week shows everything we need to know about the manager's ethos. 'Oh that's gonna be tough, we'd rather save ourselves for the cup' What? We win! We win em both! He always says one game at a time but is always also considering the 3 game block he is in. Starters, subs & tactics tailored to opponents, taking into account game just played and game to be played next. Now the team are more than a team, they are a squad. Rotation and minutes managed to have balance & optimum performance across the board. Fitness is being managed and improved constantly. Keep Calm & Follow On!

Rod

It's actually amazing how little the Europa league draw is being spoken about.

Graham Jones

Don’t have an issue with Dessers not scoring yesterday. He scored twice midweek, he didn’t yesterday. No big deal. People have locked jaws in a gnashed teeth position with some players from earlier this season. That was poor management at the time, and hence why we were forced into a catch-up position. We can sit forever and criticise the signings forever, or we can look at what good management has rescued from the summer which some people think was worse than it was. Only Dessers and Lammers were the ones which puzzled people. The board must avoid mixed signals over the summer budget, because we can’t risk pissing off this manager,. If we don’t respect what wee have we will see him walk, and we need to keep him for as long as possible. Tell him the money for wages and the money for fees, and don’t deviate from that unless you can give more to the budget. VAR is going through the same teething troubles as everywhere else. It’s just that we have more maniacs in Scotland than the average European country. It’s frustrating that our referees seem to have regressed compared to other countries, because I’m not sure I can remember them being so inconsistent as this. There always used to be two or three who were a cut above others, but I’m struggling to see that right now. Maybe we need to look at costing for full time referees in the top division. We have to talk to the referees and discover if it’s possible, because there’s a better chance of improvement if these guys are working all week to improve at their job.

Mo Young

Love the fact the manager is not afraid to make subs at HT, or before when needed

Alastair McGeoch

It’s exciting, nothings won yet but we have to keep putting scoreboard pressure on them. Beat Hearts on Saturday and it piles pressure on them again. They haven’t timploded yet, but it’s close.

Scott Cameron

The dream team pod, hope we have more of these happy episodes between now and the end of May🏆🏆🏆

Graham Roy

Dropped the kids off at school yesterday and you could spot the bears with the wee smile and nod of head! The couple of that lot were strangely quiet and no club colours on display! Normality finally returning!

Martin Boyd

Re Dessers , he isn’t getting caught offside as often as he was when he wasn’t fit. As for his misses did anyone see Solanke’s misses against Newcastle and he is a lauded epl striker. He had one real miss when he was 1 on 1 the others were 50/50 chances and every striker misses their fair share of those. Will he be the main striker next season? I don’t think so but as a 2nd or 3rd option he is more than adequate.

Rod

I didn't mean on the pod, I was meaning amongst the fan base in general.

Jock Paterson

Maybe an out of step question considering we’re top of the world, but I’ve been meaning to ask for ages - what do Mike Lee and Paul Myres bring to the party, exactly? I’ve be hearing their names for years 😄

Ewan Christie

Not sure about that one myself, I imagine he’ll be one of the top earners and not sure we can justify that sort of wage for someone who might be good enough to be 2nd/3rd choice? Just a thought!

Martin Boyd

Fair comment. But if, as I hope we win the league this season we will have to buy another striker call him first choice, Danilo and Dessers as back up. I don’t think we could go into a CL campaign with only two strikers and having two already in the building who don’t need to “ get up to speed” would be optional. We would be sitting with another Euro trophy if we had the finances two seasons ago to carry another decent forward.

Stuart McWilliams

From the outside its hard to see that Celtic dressing room pulling it together quickly. Rodgers has come in, changed the way they play so it doesn't suit their strengths and spent months talking about the need for better quality. Talking your players down rarely goes well (but that could be wishful thinking of my part)
