On tonight's show Adam & Ally talk about 'style over substance' and whether its possible to have one without the other.

We also look at Dujon Sterling's impact on the team in recent games. A lot of focus on how many different positions he can play, but is it actually the same role in different areas of the park?

We finish off with yet more Ridvan propaganda and whether his position as first-choice left back is now assured.

Cracking pod. Excellent analysis of as always, Brilliant explanation of why Killie are actually not that great.

On McCausland, I like him, he's neat and tidy, lacks a bit of end product but he clearly plays a part tactically when it comes to building play down the right. No issues with him. Couldn't agree more with the left backs. Bugs me when people bring up Barisic's delivery; if I just spammed crosses from 40 yards out I'd probably come up with one or two pearlers a game. He's such a one-dimensional footballer and Ridvan offers so much more at both ends. On Dessers, I've been on the train since December. I like him a lot; I think it's clear he came not fully fit and I don't think it's entirely fair to judge any player on the first two months of the season under a manager who was hopeless. Under Clement he's verged from being fine to being quite good; I think he suffers because a lot of fans just wrote him off in October and won't change their opinions, and also because despite scoring loads of crucial goals in games, he doesn't really have a big goal in a big game to his name.

That K Armstrong from the preview should be forced to listen to the part on Ridvan.

Does Sterling on right wing become a good option away in Europe then? Holding it up, chasing back and revert to 5 in midfield if needed? (Think about how ragged Betis ran us down our right side). It’s funny - as I always thought playing 2 right backs down the right was an option but with Tav further up.

Great pod as ever, thanks again Adam & Ally. This manager certainly seems a bit different in approach and implementation. Been listening intently to him in pressers, he is very open on how he wants to play. What we're seeing and his squad use shows he's implimenting what he says. He wants good attack but not just style. Substance but not just functionality. It IS just one game at a time. I've noticed it is but it isn't! It's a shifting 3 game block (which he confirmed y'day!) Based on last game, current game and game due. It's flexible but rigid. Our front 5, plus LB are all interchangeable positions filled by at least 2 players per postion. Their game time, over 3 games, will 50/50 (near as!). Similar concept to 'moneyball' looking for optimum results from optimum output from 'all' players engaged at their optimum level of performance. The set up, tactics and personnel are tailored specifically to the opposition, their style and even pitch. This has been noticiable since winter break where he's had the majority of players back from injury plus the boost of the 3 signings. The majority of fans understand football tactics as binary; one thing or the other, a certain formation produces a certain style or result. Black or white. But it's all infinite shades of grey, consistently changing. Modern football. Its not 1999 (or earlier), or Fantasy Football or Champ Manager (where too many get the notion they know better!). That's why there digs at McCausland & Ridvan, questioning of starting lineup etc. First XI, starting XI or 'the best team' aren't what this guy operates. Routinely uses all his subs, rarely for injuries. Are to add impetus or tweek the tactic or more often, one player has been used to do a specific job, it's predetermined. eg Silva drag the defence into areas they don't like, tire them out, settle into that style then Dessers on to change and exploit. So much is revealed from what he says, they're not just clichés or sound bytes. How and why he does it, what he's doing on any specific game is where the magic comes and what we won't know. But we can watch, gain understanding and learn.

Good stuff. Can we have a Tactics pod on corners? What are our stats? We must get 15/20 every home game?
