Rangers 1-2 Motherwell Postmatch Reaction 2 Mar 2024

A very poor Rangers lose at home to Motherwell. David looks at what went wrong.

Comments

Gordon Watson

Gutted. And angry. 🤷‍♂️

Barry Drysdale

That was a dreadful performance. It started off badly and got progressively worse

Rona Bluebell

Saturday night blues. This team, eh. Putting a brave face on and trying to be philosophical.

David whyte

We had enough chances to win that. Onwards!

Alan Weir

We just don’t have enough creative players: partly injury, partly crap signings.

chris smith

Not clinical enough up front, not nearly cynical enough at the back. We were bullied again. Both centre halfs were really poor but they should each have halved Bair and Spittal at the first opportunity

David Hanlon

Red card challenge on Mccausland all day long

Angus Mackay

Perfect assessment, David. We had an off day and just didn't get a break of the ball when we needed it. Raskin was desperately poor in midfield, and you felt that kind of spread. He just hasn't looked at it all season. The injuries to creative players are also costing us badly right now. How VAR could possibly justify not calling the hapless Muir over to have a look at the McAusland incident I have no idea,

Max Power

I hoping this is a kind of Walter anomaly performance. Getting a surprising doing by a Hibs etc but then reacting well and getting on another run to a title.

Bryan Watson

Manager will have learnt loads today. Injuries playing their part; Sima, Danilo, Cortes, Matondo, Cantwell all out - Roofe only getting back to fitness was bound to catch up with us eventually. Midfield didn't work because it was too samey Raskin / Lunny trying to do the same job ala Kamara and Jack in previous seasons. Goldson been on the downward slope since the Liverpool injury and Souttar as good as he has been has a moment like that in him. Nothing won or lost today, its a bad day at the office and it can be that so long as we react accordingly.

Andy Gray

Spot on. Dreadful performance by whole team. And one of the worst displays of refereeing I’ve ever seen.

Mr J K Murray

was trying to articulate something but cannot,to many green tree performances from what are dry tree players, hic,day off on the nest figured us, hic,

Simon Lewandowski

as much as a kick in the stones that result is we need to move on quickly we were never going to go unbeaten until the end of the season unfortunately this defeat just makes the old firm game a must win because they wont drop points before then

Billy Forrester

Today was a very poor day where everyone was off it, you get days where a couple are off it and can get away with it however today there were no pass marks, defence and forwards especially bad. Time for calm as this team deserve to be backed and now is not the time for all the finger pointing, they were bad today but we are still in this and I believe we will win it

David Innes

The OF at Ibrox was always going to be a must win. If they’re going to drop anything before then it will be tomorrow but the boost we’ve given them today makes that a long shot imo

Allan

We started like a team who looked like they felt they could coast it today, with an eye on Thursday and were shown (not for the first time) that we were not good enough for that.

David Woods

Can I make one small point for fans of all clubs and Podcasts? Can we please stop talking about refs - how bad they are, how biased they are, the ref was this, the ref was that, he’s poor, he’s ok, he hasn’t a clue, he’s not fit………Every time I read a message or listen to a Podcast the one constant is how bad the ref was. Every club thinks the refs are poor if not biased against their club. Every club. Let’s talk about how good/poor our teams are, or how good/poor the opposition was, because that’s how results are decided ninety nine times out of a hundred. Disappointed today, but not discouraged. Onwards and upwards.

Heart and Hand

We don’t want to talk about referees but when they are abysmal we have to. So no, unfortunately, we can’t. I also think we’re refereed to a different standard.

chris smith

People talk about refs - win or lose - because it is clear we are being reffed to a different standard, witness today the foul on Ross M … compare that to the Sterling sending off … and the foul on Silva that led to the VAR penalty … Muir was 5 yards away looking straight at it. Then we have the Dickensen nonsense in midweek with the Pens, he couldnt get his card out quick enough for Lundstram but not interested at all in the Mayo incident. And that is only incidents from the last couple of games … but it is happening game after game now. Yes we we v poor today but still should have had enough to win but some days when your luck is out biased refereeing can make the difference.

Gregg

Compare today’s one to the cifuentes red - night and day as shown by the injury.

Liam Johnson

Can’t start games in a title race with better players on the bench than on the park. Simple as that, whether you’re “managing minutes” or not. Before you know it you have 18 fit players but are 5 points behind. Put it behind us and soldier on.

Roslyn Hutchison

Scottish refs are so poor, it’s time we had full time professionals. With so much at stake for clubs/players it’s a disgrace that the officials are basically people who treat refereeing as a hobby/side hustle. ( Albeit a well paid one )

Billy Forrester

Having watched it back with a calm head this morning, the 1st goal is a calamity from Souttar, not the first from him either and the 2nd goal is down to 1. Tav letting his man get away from him at back post and allowing him acres of space and 2. Butland was really poor at the goal and should have saved it. Bad day at office and hopefully it’s just a blip

Robert White

Ah well, weekend ended with us still 2 points clear and a better goal difference 😂

Heart and Hand

Strap yourselves in folks. Twists and turns aplenty 😀

Glyn Davies

We surely need a Kerryfail episode up tomorrow after those post match comments from Brenda.....Agent Shankland we salute you 🫡🫶

Glyn Davies

Starting to think the non signing of Shankland in January was a a tactical masterstroke from the BBBB (big baldy Belgian beauty)

Gregg

We should do one with the comments yesterday from our own fans - weak as piss

Billy Forrester

Maybe some of our fans will calm the feck down now, some of the comments yesterday were horrendous. Time for calm heads. There will be bumps on the way again, hopefully our fans think and wait before engaging said brain next time

Alan Ferguson

Tab had 3 men to pick up while Goldson was marking acres of fresh air….too easy to blame Tav again
