Lyricist. Leader. Legend. ¡LOCO!

These are all adjectives to describe the one and only, RM. Formerly Runch Randa. Formerly Rap Monster. Currently REAL ME.

Today's video is a continuation of a reaction video that we posted on our YouTube channel in celebration of RM’s birthday! If you haven't already seen that video, where we listen to “JOKE” for the first time, check it out now and then come back. We'll be waiting for you! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOEPyXbj-fI

Hearing RM go COMPLETELY NUTS on this song makes us both wish we were fluent in Korean. The wordplay, slant-rhyming, end-rhyming, multi-lingual rhyming, JIBBER JABBERING…this song had it all!!! One of our favorite lines:

“bibidi babidi bubidi babidi

nimini namini jigimi chakami”

🤯🤯

Stay tuned for our dive into RM’s leadership qualities! We are entirely convinced that this man is one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen. He inspires us both to be better human beings.

Thank you RM, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! 🎉🥳🎂🎊🎁  ARMY, as always, we truly appreciate your love and support (WE’LL CONTINUE SAYING THIS UNTIL THE END OF TIME). I'll look tomorrow... because now I'll fall asleep and drop the phone on my face... I'll be like Namjoon and I won't even have time to turn away...

Kiki

Came here immediately after the Live Stream. Let‘s goo :)

Loredana de Caro

Hi! do you also plan to react to some other compilation videos about RM? Like a Birthday marathon

fox

I'm so glad you are checking out some of Joon's solo work! From this mixtape I also hope you can listen to "Do You" there is a music video for that one too :) Then when you check out the next mixtape "mono" it's going to be so different :) though for "mono" you really need to listen to it all at once if possible. It is a masterpiece. Thanks so much for spending your time getting to know Joon. He deserves so much love.

Vrishti Chetty

It's totally 1AM right now, but my priorities are very clear. My happiness is definitely my priority right now ;) I'll go to sleep soon...

Roxy Foxy

I thought i can watch this today but i caught myself napping 😅 I'll watch tomorrow..

Keylee

Can I just thank you guys for not just breaking this down, but explaining hip hop and rap and that this song does have meaning. I think alot of Armys don’t know anything about rap music or hip hop as a culture and can be dismissive based on only knowing the negative aspects they hear on the radio. There’s not alot of reactors who are willing or able to really explain it. You acknowledge the misogyny but you also understand the origins and why, even without condoning it. (i really hope you guys will watch American Hustle Life where BtS is sent to LA to learn about hip hop. The day they spend with Warren G in particular is really great)

Vrishti Chetty

Oh and thank you so much for continuously being so awesome. As a person who loves Namjoon so much, it's so great to see you appreciate him the way he deserves. Borahae Also, one of my favourite Namjoon songs is Trivia: Love. He is so admirable and honestly just so cute. Anyway, thanks <3

JPz⁷

Our leader! Mr. President!! RM is so impressive. It's amazing seeing him give eloquent speeches and make us feel so connected to him and BTS to the point that we do. His music though, shows how raw he can be through his lyrics and killer rap ability when he is not speaking for the group. Such an amazing rapper and lyricist (I'll never get over his ability to make such an incredible lyrics that rhyme in both Korean and English). I love that you are able to learn more about the members through their solo work and (possibly, if you watch more) compilations during their birthdays - because they truly are such amazing and genuine individuals on their own that come together to join as one impressively talented group of brothers.

leat

i didn´t dissect the lyrics so deep so i would guess you got it all hehe. RM use double wordplay a lot in rap unit songs as well. he said he wanted to keep it easy to understand when he makes songs for BTS because all people should also be able to understand it. in BTS songs his lyrics are often poetic and symbolic. with BTS you get all you ever wanted and more.

Eli Min

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BEST LEADER!

Liz Torres

I'm here right after the live, can't get enough of my lil' bros. I'm not a fan of hip hop or ever even listened to rap until BTS. Something about the Korean language that sounds so beautiful and sweet to the ears. A bit less harsh I guess. Either way RMs talent is incredible as well as his intellect. I'm only half way through so I will go back and continue the video now. I wanted to say hello really quick. Love you guys 💜💜. Jordan that rap was amazing. My birthday is on the 18th. I'm hoping to hear some singing from both of you that day. I'll be waiting right here 🤣🤣🥰🥰💜💜

LIBBY WILSON

You two did an exceptionally awesome reaction to RM's Joke. Jordan, your tribute rap was fantastic! The first time I heard Joke it blew me away...and it still does. All the members of BTS amaze me with their skills, abilities and talents. I want to upgrade to your Gold status but you guys are sold out. You two are worth every penny! I love and adore you two. Thanks once again for responding to our requests. OT7 💜x7

Amanda Vicente

If you were impressed with the world play here imagine when you react to “Ddaeng” 😂. Loved the reaction as always can’t wait for more!

Sabrina K

Yal my mind was getting blown the way yal were reading and analyzing LMAOOOO I was like OMG each time. These were the times where they (especially the rappers) had alot of hidden anger and that's why their old rap songs such as their cyphers as well, is just raw, rare, and just amazing and that's why we all treasure it so much. The anger in them fueled these fire ass songs. Also the last line "Hit me" could have been meant as anyone else to clap back at him...but no one did. LMAO

Amani ○°●•7

J&j WHEW 🔥 1.Thanks for today's reaction ... so much stimulus... from JOKE... from you two ... RM'S power and presence is undeniable. Its so telling of us in the west not even knowing about his king rapping style. He is elite. Can't wait for a deeper dive into his catalog. You both will be thrilled w his other rap songs and his vocal songs. (Get ready Jared) 2. JORDAN ... why ya gotta bia wreck with that HBD rap mmmm? 🔥🔥🤯 3. MERRIEST OF BORN DAYS TO RM ... wordsmith, leader, poet, philosopher, traveler, art collector, nature admirer, brother, my dble bias, rapper, bicyclist 🚴‍♂️, book hoarder, crab enthusiast and hater of mint chocolate icecream 🍦 Love to you always Kim Namjoon 🎆🎆🎆🖤

Jane Rogers

As usual, love your breakdown! Btw, unnie is pronounced as “un-knee”, what females call older sister; hyung “h-young” for males call older brother. Side note: 3 sisters in a family, youngest calls oldest one “big unnie”, middle sister “little unnie”. Same with hyung title. Just fyi: for Korean words that have “eo”, it’s “uh” sound; joekbal is j-uhk-bahl (pig’s foot)

Loredana de Caro

Also RM is fluent in english, Japanese and ofc Korean

Alishea

I loved everything about this reaction. RM's lyrics are just GENIUS 💜

Kath Choo⁷

Are you sure you're up for learning Korean? At 1:20:00 the lyrics explanation narrator was merely at his FIRST korean character 갑 and Jordan looked like he's having a headache 😂😂😂 and one minute into Korean class, Jared fainted on his microphone 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Gosh! Your facial expressions' so hilarious I repeated that part 5 times at least. Thanks for making my day my favourite twins 💜💜💜💜💜

Tk

To get an insight to the stream of consciousness of a 148 IQ RM back is truly mesmerizing. Just think about it this way if he don't consider this song to have a deep meaning, imagine the level of depth his other songs has 🤯🤯

Veronica⁷

Wow! Just wow! I learned something today...RM is a bad ass! 😂 Like always, you guys have a great reactions and breakdowns. You both had me laughing out loud.😂🤣 I was sitting on my laptop watching your reaction with my earphones on and my husband could hear me on the other side of the house. Thank you for your reaction guys! 💜💜

April Forgue

You need to check out Monster by RM. This is a pissed off RM went off on the haters and I would say is more explicit than joke.

ræ

Loved this so much! I was holding of sleeping just to finish the entire video 😂

ræ

Can't wait for you guys to listen to mono btw. That's a different RM though.

Zo

Ahh your content is my favorite and that’s why I subscribed here. I loved this video and I appreciate the time you take to examine the lyrics to each new song you hear (reminds me of RM💜). My favorite RM song is Moonchild and Forever Rain. For me, BTS is my happy place and RM is the human embodiment of comfort. I can’t wait for you to see his leadership qualities and why people in the kpop industry call him the best leader. There are so many funny videos of RM like ‘RM being done with BTS’. Again, thank you for checking out BTS and going through this journey. ARMY will be with you for this journey and we truly appreciate you🫶🏼

Bwana

Kim Namjoon, Runch Randa, Rrrrrrap Monsta, RM aka our guiding star is the epitome of “do your worst, because I will do mine”. You are correct Jordan, this was way more than just a clap back.

MistikButterfly

I cannot wait for you guys to. Do RM & MONO. Please take Time frame into consideration. Because it defines so eloquently the separation of Rap Monster & RM. I keep saying I am OT7 & I don't have a Bias but...... 💜👑💜 King Namjoon!!! 😍 THANKS GUYS. I Apreciate the content.

Nellie Z

Perfect demonstration of RM's 148 IQ. Play with your opponent so they can't say anything back. So like I read somewhere, no one has HIT him back.

Saphy

Hi Guys, this is the first time I'm reaching out to you. Thank you for your deep analytical work. I think you're both amazing reactors. I was literally belly laughing during this video as I listened to Jordan, trying to read the explicit lyrics. I nearly fell out of bed, it was so wonderfully hilarious. Yes, Genius RM has placed a 'JOKE' on all of us. As RM and JK are my biases and September is their birthday month. I was wondering whether you could find the time to look at a video which highlights the admirable view JK has for RM. After all, he was the sole reason that JK chose to join Big Hit rather than any of the other bigger more established companies which I'm sure you know. Here is the link https://youtu.be/TmKIQ1A9Kbs. It would wonderful if you could also react to one of their songs. My favourite cover of theirs from the past is called 'Fools' here is the link https://youtu.be/bVYRuQlmXts

Tiffany1013

Jared: "I don't know if we'll ever get another RM song like this one." Meanwhile, Do You, Monster, and the Cyphers are like, "Hold my beer..." while Agust D giggles in the background

Katherine Cordero

This makes me excited for the day you listen to Mr.Yoongi's other ego, Agust D. There's a reason why army call his rap savage. 😭

Katherine Cordero

Maybe all of us calling it meaningless rhymes made you even more shocked when trying to analyze the song lol

raeven b.

Omg you guys should watch rm’s VLIVE from a few years back, when all the boys came to sing to him and then Jimin accidentally got chocolate icing on rm’s hoodie 😂 it’s such a sweet and entertaining live. You two will love it and I’ll love rewatching with you ☺️In honor of his bday, ya know? ;) 💜

rowanthea

I laughed so hard at this reaction. You haven’t seen anything yet. Wait until you get to the Cyphers, Ddang, and Outro: Tear live at Wembley stadium. This is so much fun

Skyblue00

Guys, RM’s entire 1st mix tape is like this😂. And don’t rule out the rap line’s Ugh! Ddaeng. The Cyphers. As you travel on your journey, you will see RM grow and evolve. His 2nd mix tape, although not as explicit, is just as amazing as his first. You’ll see, RM has more up his sleeve!

Salena G

This is just the beginning of BTS rap for you. I suggest that you put on your harnesses (seatbelts are ineffective 🤭) RM's Do You and as Katherine Cordero said wait until you get a load of Agust D a play on Suga's name spelled backwards 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜.

Cherry Valens

Loved this reaction, my first time hearing this song by RM as well… he truly is so bada$$! Loved your guys insight, passion, enthusiasm, I love it all! Jordan thank you for taking one for the team and reading the explicits! 😉 Cannot wait for Thursday! Borahae! 💜💜

Maya001

Hi guys! Thanks for the deep dive I really appreciate it. To understand RM’s lyrics you have to always look deep. I have a few comments:✨ -Joke isn’t the only song RM is “Raw” in. his whole first mixtape is extremely raw and hip hop heavy dissing haters etc. I really think you will enjoy it especially MONSTER it’s a track from one of J cole’s songs ( Simba) and it’s amazing imo. About the controversy of this song it’s not the cussing that’s explicit but the derogatory terms he used. And as a big hip hop fan myself I completely understand and didn’t see it as a big deal but it’s very culturally different in Korea. Namjoon is an extremely intelligent individual and he grew Immensely from this and is now better than ever. He still doesn’t shy away from lighting ppls ass on fire, but does it in a less derogatory/misogynistic way. I think everyone should learn from him tbh. -Also please check out Mono too it’s a completely different vibe and it’s a masterpiece. His vocals will shock u. - OMG I can’t wait until you guys get into Agust D and D2 Suga is REALLY savage and it’s amazing how hard he will go. If you think RM is savage wait until u listen to Suga lol I suggest DAECHWITA and AGUSTD before getting into The Last as they will first introduce you to Suga’s alter ego. - Plus if you thing this song is very deep into cultural references daechwita is gonna blow ur mind! Btw they both swear extremely in their songs lol I personally love it but even others who don’t, have gotten used to it by now I assume. -I also can’t wait until u get into the cyphers! They go really hard on this one guy called BeFree and that MF deserves everything he got. I recommend you do at least 2 cyphers at a time if not all cuz they’re really short anyway. - one last thing! 😂 Please watch Ddaeng! And after that check out the vocal line rapping it! Those boys especially V are really big rap enthusiasts! 💜💜💜 If you actually reached this far thank you! And I love your videos! And as Jimin says “You nice👍 keep going” 😊

Laurie Brennan⁷

I laughed so hard at you guys fighting over reading some of these lines. Who's going to tell them about "Expensive Girl"? lol. It always astounds me how RM can not only repeatedly switch up his flow over and over in one song, he can also rhyme back and forth between 2 languages. (RM also speaks fluent Japanese). I'm not gonna lie...the Korean language confuses the heck out of me...so many multiple meanings in the vocabulary. Thanks for such a deep dive. Fun fact..BTS are the only artists to ever have 3 songs on the charts at the same time in 3 different languages (English, Korean & Japanese). They are unparalleled. I promise I wouldn't lead you astray...lol. Now I can't wait for Thursday.

bee

Jordan that birthday rap was everything!!! The fact that you came up with a verse just for RMs birthday.. oh yeah he is DEFINITELY your bias haha! enjoyed it! :)

Dina S

Great reaction! RM's birthday was coming up and I had a feeling "Joke" will make an appearance and I had to re-joined your Patreon :) I think it is a bit of a misconception to assume the entire song is a joke and has no meaning... It is freaking modern poetry! I started learning Korean a few months ago because I feel I will have a great supply of modern Korean poetry haha (aka Korean rap) to truly enjoy the beauty of this language. Love your reaction! I am sure you will appreciate Ddaeng by rap line!!

Cheryl ⁷ Lambert

Hi guys! Oh my, my. I had to recharge my headphones after the YouTube and come back for this. I’m baby ARMY of just over a year but I had heard this song before. Considering how you love to do a “lyric “ breakdown, I thought 💭 “you’re not ready” for this one. I’m sorry but I nearly fell off the sofa seeing you trying to tap dance around the most explicit lyrics. You’re both very precious human beings and gentlemen at heart but remember their fan base is more adult than people think. Personally I think that this song is a master class for wannabe rappers! Our leader and president, RM is a genius in every way. When it’s said that there’s no deep meaning to the song, I feel that’s a reference to the fact that many BTS song lyrics have a backstory, often based on books , events or social concepts such as Blood, Sweat and Tears from the Wings album. That whole album is based on the Herman Hess book Damien , which you have been gifted. The meaning, symbolism and MV’s for that alone will take you a long time. I think there’s a lot of meaning in this song, pertaining only to his thoughts as he just unleashed it to the world. I love the video concept of being jailed, in a straight jacket while being totally unrestrained with every single bar. He really claps back to the underground rap community that he started with, who really dissed and dismissed him for becoming a makeup wearing Idol. As a woman, I’m not offended by the misogynistic lyrics in JOKE, War of Hormone and Boy In Luv. This is subjective art and with all art, the creator is being self expressive. RM really took the negative reaction that some their early work caused to heart and as you know often researches his lyrics to avoid what where considered offensive sentiments towards women. In return, their song “21st Century Girls” is one of the most female empowerment songs of our time. I wish there was a song like that when I was a young woman. I highly recommend it. I don’t think it would be a spoiler for your journey. There’s no official MV but a really great live performance with English subs and a dance practice on YouTube. As always this was a really fun experience. I loved every minute of both. I can’t wait for the rest of RM’s birthday week party 🎉🤗🙏💜💜

Yeontae

Like please if you want them to react to Tiny Desk. 😂 Jordan - Your rap is amazing. Great job!

Kecia ⁷

This is why I'm a Patron of your channel. I loved your analysis. Looking forward to more on Thursday.

bee

Can't wait for this song during the car test. This song is THE song to listen to in the car. Like seriously.. the beat is CRAZYY and then his flow switch ups and all of it just give you goosebumps.

эlลžý.вэllล Orr

Hey 👋. As for the 6 shots line both ASAP and RM used, I think for ASAP he means 6 shots of alcohol has him feeling on top like 2 Pac, and for RM he's literally taking shots at other rappers. They both used the line but had 2 different meanings. Just my 2 cents, loved the reaction guys 💜 edit: I'm commenting before the lyric video btw, going back ta watch the rest ✌

Erin

Thanks for another awesome reaction and taking the time to break this down! I can’t wait until you get into Suga’s songs as August D - especially his song called “August D” and Daechwita !

LizP⁷⁷⁷⁷⁷⁷⁷

Awesome videos guys!!!! My head hurts from all the thinking now lol 😆 Lyrical genius, rap monster, king of destruction, Mr. President and everything everyone else mentioned but also an innovator of his own genre . I love this man so much. He would be honored to watch your videos guys!!! 💜💜

Alix Drifty

I always took the title to have a double meaning - yes, the song is a 'Joke' compared to the thought that RM usually puts into a song, in that it's a stream of consciousness-style rap (freestyle in STYLE if not pure definition), but the song title is also meaning that the haters are the 'Joke' because RM's "meaningless stream of consciousness" is 100% better and more intelligent and meaningful than anything that they carefully compose.

Tajbabydoll

I am so glad that Jordan noticed there was no hook! That eludes many people that listen to this song the first time around because there's so much coming at them! I'm excited for you to react to the all of the guys' solo songs, but also, RM's "Do You".

Bwana

Ok Jared I get what your getting at so don’t stress too hard trying to make sense of ‘Joke’. For years I’ve bumped this song in my car and even on family trips where I was the driver for many hours. Hey, if I’m driving I’m bumpin what is going to get me through. But to your point specifically Jared I’ve always seen RMs answers to the interview about his mix tape and in particular the single Joke as carefully put together answers. You have to keep in mind that 2015 was still a hard and very vulnerable time for them so soon after a 2013 debut that started out rocky from day one. Looking back in it from this army’s point of view 2015-2017 were some of the groups most trying times. With this in mind consider this 20yr olds definite intentions to be the best representative possible for his 6 brothers seeing as how he was the first of them to test the solo mixtape waters. But still committed to himself and his art in a real way. That is tricky. Soooo, when asked to give his thoughts on one of the most explicit tracks on the album what else do you say but, Sorry..not sorry. Just joking but not really joking. Meaning, for all of you who take offense or you’re not familiar with this form of real CLAP BACK between rappers, no no..I’m just joking. But to others, and you know who I’m talking to..this here, ant no joke bro. It’s past my bedtime and 5am comes quickly so I may not be saying it clearly but I hope you reread this comment and it makes more sense the second time around :) Night and BANGTAN Hard 🙌🏽💜

Hai N

It’s a bit of a leap but I recommend listening to 땡 ‘DDAENG’ It’s a track that was released by BTS rap line (RM, SUGA, & J-HOPE). Your minds will be blown away! The wordplay is no joke, no pun intended lol. P.S This track was released on SoundCloud for free. In my opinion this song shouldn’t mess with your timeline of discovering BTS in chronological order considering it’s not on any official albums similar to ‘JOKE’ it’s almost a mixtape. Here are the links to the videos! Again, I cannot thank you guys enough for sharing your journey with ARMYs. I love and appreciate every single video and as always, BORAHAE! 💜 Original Soundtrack: https://soundcloud.com/bangtan/ddceremony?utm_source=mobi&utm_campaign=social_sharing&utm_terms=reco_roster_override.curated_rosters Explained By DKDKTV: https://youtu.be/fdJl1SL03Ac Bangtan Bomb [Behind the Scenes]: https://youtu.be/SEiT2mO97fA Stage Performance [Prom Party]: https://youtu.be/JuZwvYDQ92E And for fun, lol Live Performance [Vocal Line Ver.]: https://youtu.be/tQRrc3PEITc

Rae Avilez

Namjoon-ah has said that he would like to erase his first mixtape completely, but most armys love it. As an artist I get it that he has grown past this first mixtape but it is still an amazing piece of work, as far as I am concerned. I think there is a place for every kind of music, including this kind of diss track. Army always "joke" that no one ever hit him up in response to this challenge lol! Or at least not to my knowledge. Like many have said, compared to what we get in the American music this is nothing. Okay and the arguing about who is going to read the line had me cackling!

crystine dills

So glad you guys checked this one out finally. seeing your reactions though is making my anticipation for Sugas solo works as Agust D. *rubbing hands together with the evil smile* you have only scratched the surface for this iceberg! Cant wait for the next video. By then I should have upgraded my membership!

ririッ

I think I'll cry a lot when you finally get to listen to RM's "Mono" 😭😭😭 A LIFE SAVER & A HUG FROM JOON IN A FORM OF AN ALBUM/MIXTAPE I'll wait for now, and enjoy the ride 💜

Madi

Namjoon is one of the most beautiful people there is and I do not speak only physically but his precious heart, he is an exceptional human being, intelligent, kind, educated, humble, and a great leader. That’s why and many other things we love our president Namjoonnie. Thank you Jared and Jordan for reacting to BTS. I’m a fan of your videos, I hope you follow this beautiful BTS path, greetings and stay healthy.

So true, very well said 💜😫🙏 Mono is a warm hug on a rainy day!

HershMarie✨?

You guys, I enjoyed both your YT and the reaction here on Patreon. I may be.. just maybe one of the secretly giggling ones while watching this just because I was really enjoying your guys' reactions. Lol!! RM have always stated that this song has literally no deep meaning whatsoever. 😉😉 But knowing that he's a lyrical genius and so good with wordplay we know that there's more to that but mainly JOKE is for all the haters who have looked down on him and said some hateful and hurtful words just for being a rapper/idol. RM mentioned in the past that he normally enjoys Run The Jewels. There were a few songs that he had recorded on the beat for Run The Jewels, among the songs that weren’t placed on the mixtape. When he said "hit me" on the last part of the song, he's challenging his haters to answer back or "hit back" to this diss track because JOKE is indeed a diss track but nobody is brave enough to answer and that also all these haters are a JOKE. 🤷‍♀️ BTW Jordan, that was some dope verse! 🤭 I love it! I really enjoyed today's videos. It made my day. Belated happy birthday to our supreme leader Kim Namjoon. 💜🫶🏻🤭 Borahae 💜✨

Members of QHC

*TW for anyone photosensitive!! The video shown by Run The Jewels has a lot of flashing light sequences! also TW for two Defibulator audios towards the last 8 minutes Because the video for Joke is triggering for me Imma watch this first then the previous two videos (to clarify my possibly odd comments on all three) **It’s unfortunate the translater of the lyrics didn’t have anything to say on the offensive term “cripples” I think the joke actually might be that if this song is what he considers meaningless, then what does that say about the rest of his work where he does intend meaning?

Members of QHC

(imma start a new comment for this specifically) I’ve found personally (as you may remember from my comment about Korean before) that Duolingo (app) is best for learning the characters/alphabet and their sounds/pronunciation. I use Drops (app), social media, and Youtube for various vocabulary.

Glaseon_711

Have you watched Lillo & Stitch?! Let's watch the stream together, shall we?💜😉

^^^^^ was just about to be like “I mean…. id still pay for this patreon if they happened to make it BTS and Disney” fjjdkdjd seriously I would love to and im sure we arent the only ones

bts

Hi from Sweden! Love the reactions! You guys seem to be enjoying the hip-hop and R&B stuff so here are some songs of BTS I recommend you react to: - HipHop Phile - Daechwita by Agust D (Yoongi’s Alter Ego/his rap persona) - Agust D by Agust D (Yes the song’s name is Agust D) - What do you think by Agust D - Cypher 2 (It will literally BLOW YOUR MINDS!!! I know that you have to react to the cyphers from the first to the last (1-4) but I’m just telling you so you can get existed - cypher 2 is insane) The more “R&B like” songs are: - Serendipity (It’s Jimin’s solo song on the Album “Love Yourself ‘Her’”) - Like - Just One Day - Stigma (This is Taehyung’s solo song on the Album “Wings” and his vocals are to die for in this one! There’s a whole storyline going on with the song and it’s also connected to other songs - and MV’s - so maybe react to it when you get to the Wings album. But just so you know - it’s awesome!) Anyway that was it, keep up the good work!

Les

Hey guys, im glad y'all checked this out. I love revisiting Namjoon's older works because you can see how much hes developed and evolved over the years. Joke is always a great song to introduce a different side to BTS. But i do find myself always gravitating to his more slower songs on Mono, his 2nd mixtape. Mono is a masterpiece, he does a fantastic job expressing his inner struggle with loneliness and identity.

SilvrArmy

Hi guys - This was indeed a proper birthday tribute to a brilliant man!! Thank you (once again!) for taking the time to delve deep. And, of course, it’s not entirely “meaningless” simply because RM isn’t capable of completely shutting his brain off. Threaded meaning and double/triple entendres are what naturally spill out of him. My take on Joke is his message to the haters - your idea of what makes a good/successful rapper is a joke and I’m going to show you it’s not about what you call yourself - it’s who and what you are as an actual skilled artist. Call him an Idol rapper - it doesn’t change the fact that he is more successful and skilled than all those critics we’ve never heard of. Can’t wait for the next episode! BTW - I think all the mixtapes are masterpieces!! 💜💜💜

mettemirella

This was lovely deep dive into Joke and I love this as always. I try to make this short but I have things to tell😊 - First of all Jordan you really should rap more often and write lyrics. The rap was really amazing. I can't wait the next time you will rap for us and it was really lovely appreciation to RM. - about Joke there is lot of meaning in the song, word plays and dissing the haters. I think what RM ment by it being a "meaningless joke" is that lot of thought goes into BTS other songs and there is most of the times themes in songs and albums that you have to sometimes look behind the lyrics to notice everything. Joke in the other hand, there isn't anything hidden and it there as it is. Some of it came out without thinking and the distrack was made to show of the haters that RM can have meaning in the song while not thinking hard. The only thing is that it's hard for people who doesn't speak korean to understand everything. - I was laughing when you Jared said that you guys will never get another song like this. At the same time I was thinking the songs in RM first mixtape, Suga's alterego Agust D and the Cyphers. You have lot to come specially on the savage side of BTS. You have seen nothing yet😅 Thank you once again for going through Joke even though it's a little triggy song with all the douple meanings. Borahae💜

Jared & Jordan how do we get access to the other videos you posted on here of RM? I believe y’all mentioned we’re able to watch if we are under Gold Tier…but there’s no more spots available 😕

Kiki

I know, that this is the Lyric Reaction and you did the MV reaction on YT but CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT JORDAN‘S RAP here too???? Like hello??? The Lyrics, the flow, the seriousness!! That was fire!!!🔥 As always loved both reaction videos! Thank you for giving the members so much room on their Birthdays 💜

I would love for you guys to do a Mixtape review for RMs first Mixtape like you did for jhopes newest album. RMs mixtape "RM" came out in 2015 and is sadly very underrated. I believe the 2015 mixtape really showcases his initial thoughts and feelings going forward as a new idol of BTS before they got famous. He also experiments with sound in his first mixtape, not unlike JHope did in his own mixtape. But RM was the first to release solo work and helped open the doors for the others to move forward with their own solo mixtapes. ***RM has done a solo concert for this first mixtape (minus Joke, he didn't do that song live, sadly) but he his concert is hype as F***

Da Lantis

https://youtu.be/ZzQ9Z0RAQ8Q this is the link for RMs solo concert for his first mixtape if you ever decide to do a review of his mixtape. No English subs unfortunately, but thats why a review of the songs before watching the concert would be best! Thanks for all you guys do! Your reactions are truly amazing.

Hannah

they day this comment gets on your YouTube is the day I’ve made it haha but you guys should react to blood swear and tears, that’s the song what made me an army and I’m more than sure you will love it

Da Lantis

If you continue with Rise of Bangtan, it explains more about their past and the attacks against them. Also if you haven't, you should watch the BTS hardships video mentioned in the This is BTS video you reviewed on you tube, it also explains it better what they suffered and how they overcame and are continuing to fight. https://youtu.be/EdY6wnLsetQ link to the hardships video.

Da Lantis

Just to note. RM is also fluent in Japanese. He also knows limited amounts of Chinese, and knows some words from a couple other languages. (That he's shown). Nobody is aware of what he actually knows and just doesn't let be known. Also,, just an fyi,, Jhope is fluent in Chinese. And all of BTS can speak near fluent Japanese.

Namjoon's Wisdom

A couple of things that always strike me with this song: RM was barely 20 years old when he created this song. Also, in regards to his use of more explicit language and imagery, I think that 1) the genre called for it; 2) he was and is deeply influenced by the genre which uses that language; and 3) he had not fully developed his style yet. As he matured, he became more himself, he found out how to express himself, he played on his biggest strengths. He also grew in awareness of issues like misogyny. He became conscious of the impact of his words, not on the intended target (he always knew that) but the others, the listeners. You mentioned his naivete, and I would specify youth. I think at that time, he still had to go through a lot of anger and resentment about what a community he admired was throwing at him. One last point, I am always surprised at the depth of his lyrics for something that is supposedly stream of consciousness. But we have learned that this man does think that way. He does not just sit down and decide to think deep, he just sees the world that way. His knowledge of the language, his sensitivity to sounds and hidden layers of meaning all contribute to poetry in motion. The result is songs that can be listened to so many times and you will always discover something new.

You should definitely react to Agust D (Suga) - Daechwita 👌🏽

Jen Roe⁷

I genuinely think the joke is that RM doesn't do anything halfheartedly. Including writing 'joking' lyrics.

Jen Roe⁷

This is making me very excited for you to react to some Agust D because let's just say Yoongi definitely embodies the same spirit as this song sometimes and has similar skills as RM here. They bounce off each other and share musical influences so they kind of match very well. If you love this style then you will love Agust D. Especially the self-titled song Agust D and Give It To Me. (My personal favourites are Saram (People), The Last, So Far Away and Daechwita).

Noll⁷

Loooved your reaction on this and I really cant wait for more about RM. And then I'm soo curious to see, how you react to Suga's verses .... I already see you speechless again (I hope) ;-) Thank you 💜💜💜

Hello Jared and Jordan, I’ve been watching your reactions for a long time and as many other Army’s I really really appreciate them and we really appreciate u🙏🏻 Since u are doing an RM week I wanted to ask if U would be willing to react to the Video (https://youtu.be/eLoPcYKebf8) it’s called „Kim Namjoon; the true definition of the ultimate leader“ by the channel (BORAHAE SARANGHAE) it’s around 42 minutes but includes a lot of stuff about Namjoons leadership abilities as well as some insight on what the members think and the trust and bond these 7 incredible man share! I think army would really appreciate it☺️ thank u and lots of love from Germany

For bilingual rappers the first that comes to my mind is Snow Tha Product she is amazing and blends Spanish and English so effortlessly. But RM isn’t just clever in his rhymes it’s his metaphors and deeper meaning that he really shines. Top tier word smith.

J-Lee

I've been reading the comments and seeing what everyone has said, I can't say no more! 😩 Except for... Jordan!! Your verse is amazing!! 😍 The things you'll do for your bias, yeahhh 🙌 And Jared's 50 cent greeting is also epic!! 🥳 Thanks for this reaction my fave brothers!! See you in the next 💜💜💜

Kia

Thank you for this reaction!!! I loved your verse for Joon, Jordan. As J-Lee said, I think it's amazing the things we'll do for BTS of their bdays. It's so funny because we don't even know them and the fact that we'll celebrate their day for/with them is amazing. I wrote a poem for Namjoon's bday last year lol (it wasn't that great, but I wanted to do something for him). Anyways, now that you've both heard Joke, I just can't wait for you both to hear his other solo work as well as the solo work from the other members. If I may, I would like to recommend a few. RM's "Awakening" from his first mixtape is one of my absolute favorites from him! I think you both would love it. As well as his songs 'Monster' and 'Something'. OMGG 'Something' is... well, something lol. You'll hear his vocal skills in this one. I loveeeeee it so much and it's criminally underrated (I just don't understand why!!). I used to listen to it to go to sleep almost every night. I even wrote about it in my creative nonfiction course in college last semester and even emailed a link to the song to my professor (may be weird because of what it's about but she wanted to hear the song I wrote so much about...she loved it btw and thanked me for sending it to her). Anyway, thank you for the reactions. I always, always look forward to watching you guys' videos. I had fallen a little behind with the videos and I was dyinggg without them, but now I'M BACK. Much love to you both, always. Borahea

Oh! “Ddaeng” A gem. Great suggestion Amanda. You know how they’ve mentioned once or twice how interested they are in seeing if the roles are ever reversed, where the rappers sing and the vocal line rap? I think this will surely be epic for them. Both versions really. I can’t wait.

He’s definitely and inspiration. I totally get why Jin called it “sexy brain.” I need to start learning Korean. I’m falling behind. I’m fluent in Spanish and English and took 3 years of French in HS but never used it so I only can recognize a few words.

joke isn't meaningless as some might say. it's actually filled with wordplay. i bet many armys already explained this too. when rm said it's "meaningless," he probably meant that joke is not profound nor is it deeply trying to communicate a philosophical idea which is what we're more familiar with when it comes to his lyricism. but to say "joke" is merely gibberish is a fat lie. rm's brain simply can't afford to be dumb. hahaha he'll always always think. to him, it's "meh" but well his brain is above most of us. ;)

I can't wait for them to realize Yoongi is one of the fastest rapper alive. Agust D by Agust D is so good, Daechwita and its mv is god tier and I don't want to talk about The Last (I was on the floor sobbing)

VancityGal

I love how you guys are diving deep into BTS. Was so fun to watch your heads explode 🤯 while listening to and watching Joke. One reference that I see was not mentioned but I believe RM meant to make was in the choice of bibidi bobidi. It’s a reference to the song Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo from Disney’s Cinderella. It’s a completely nonsensical song and refers to how childlike the other rapper’s skills are as if they never got past elementary schoolyard rimes. Love your stuff, my friends. Borahae 💜💜💜💜💜💜

Jd ✨

If they feel like this about joke who’s gonna tell them about August D by the man himself, August D, Suga, Min Yoongi? Cause in terms of explicit lyrics and word play yoongi does that all day. Constantly without getting tired.

Tiana

Yes. Meaningless lyrics for the genius RM, but complex for his haters. Thus, his Joke is not to them. NAM JOON Nimini Nomini Jikimu Jakimi

Ellie

Joke proves that namjoon CAN rap fast & bilingually - embedding it with so much wordplay and frequent changes in cadence. And he does so without sacrificing the message he sends to his haters and critics. Just because RM doesn't do this style frequently - opting for deep, poetic lyrics - doesn't mean he can't. And there lies the 'joke.'

Amiii

Joke shows how multifaceted, intellectual, talented and humorous RM is at once.
