ARMY, WE ARE HERE FOR YOU! | Our Thoughts on BTS’ Plans to Enlist in the Military (Patreon)

Like many of you, we woke up this morning to the news that BTS is moving forward with plans to fulfill their military service.

Our initial reaction was one of surprise and sadness. To hear that Jin will be initiating the process as soon as his schedule for his solo release is concluded at the end of October, left us feeling downtrodden and a deep sense of empathy for him. However, as we have learned, throughout their entire lives and careers, the members have faced obstacles and challenges that very few in this world will ever face. They have confronted their fears and critics HEAD ON, with grace and perseverance. And despite all of this, they have NEVER let ARMY down!

They have an uncanny ability to turn obstacles into opportunities. Sadness into hope. Hardship into growth. Pain into healing. 

We reacted to their full Busan concert last night (before we learned of this news about their military service plans), and as we reflect on it now…the entire concert and their speeches at the end HIT DIFFERENT. When Hobi and RM were talking about “TRUST,” and asking ARMY to trust them… it appears that they were alluding to their confidence in their abilities to weather this temporary storm and reunite for what will surely be a magical reconvening.

ARMY, LET’S SUPPORT THEM THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE EXPERIENCE AND WISH FOR THEIR CONTINUED SAFETY. As the members have reiterated time and time again…there is much more YET TO COME in the years ahead!!! 

We realize that each of you may be feeling a range of different emotions right now. 

PLEASE GIVE YOURSELF THE TIME, SPACE AND FREEDOM TO FEEL WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU ARE FEELING.

We are here for you, and will be here for you until the very end (if such an end even exists)! If you need someone to talk to, please do not hesitate to send us a message or communicate with other ARMYs in the comments section. We are all going to help each other get through this together.

I know this is quite awhile ago, but I still wanted to add my two cents - so to speak. I was not surprised when we got the news about the military because honestly I always thought the 2022 Festa dinner and the trajectory of the decision to pursue their solo endeavors was much more about the military requirement than anything else. Now do I think that the solo projects are and have been great experiences for them, absolutely and I'm so happy for them that they were able to all experience that, but I also think they could have found a way to do all of this without the military enlistment. But it was the strategy and I do applaud them for that actually. I also believe that Hybe/Big Hit and BTS are intelligent people, so every single public statement has been crafted well. This is my personal opinion and obviously full of my own speculation and many many conversations with other ARMYs. While I do absolutely believe that the members of BTS are proud to serve their country, I also absolutely believe that had they been offered an exemption they would have taken. They deserved one and so why would they not. There are and will forever be people who have things to complain about them for, so the notion that had they taken an exemption it would have made so many SKoreans angry and therefor that would frame their decision, well I just don't believe that. They know better than anyone that people will always find reasons to be mad at them. I think they would have also proudly accepted an exemption .. what more reason than to be proud that their country is willing to acknowledge the incredible contribution they have give to their country in so many different ways by offering an exemption. I think it would have made them proud, for the same reasons that the olympians and the musicians that are already exempted probably feel proud, because it is their country acknowledging that their work for their country matters more than their ability or requirement to serve in the military, because BTS serves the country in ways that NO OTHER people can, even other idols. They are different and everyone knows it. So, I truly believe their government dropped the ball on this. I also believe that BTS handled this with the grace that we of course expect them to, and I can't imagine any other announcement or comments by them that would have been better. There is no way they can ever say they don't want to serve, they never played a part in the asking for the exemption and I applaud them for that. However, there's no way that I don't believe that behind the scenes, things were probably different. In fact, I'm not the only one who believes that the Grammy loss was their last hope at that exemption. I think they were hoping to use that win as the last push for an exemption - and when I say they I don't mean BTS personally, but those people who I'm sure were working behind the scenes. So, after that loss and also the fact that the government also changed political parties around this time, I believe they were told that there was little hope and they put into action the already plan that had been in place for them serving. I'm sure there have been detailed plans for either decision. This company works years in advance and after the pandemic and so many adjustments in their plans I'm sure they'd been adjusting things and planning for either thing for a long time. I've even been told by someone who works in their industry and with people who work in Hybe USA that the Dynamite and Butter songs were part of the strategy to win the grammy and hopefully ensure an exemption. I also believe that things may have been different had those other 3 big companies in SK wouldn't have gotten involved and tried to use BTS and their absolutely unique position to garner their own idols exemptions in the future and that's where I think a lot fell through, because for whatever dumb reason the government didn't know how to handle that difference. Obviously they couldn't exempt all idols, even I realize how ridiculous that would be, so I think they weren't sure how to separate BTS from the other idols in a way to warrant an exemption -- that's where the Grammy win would have possibly made a difference. Now obviously in my eyes I think the government was stupid and really made a mistake, they could have literally said anything, the guys had already been given the Cultural Merit Award something men of their age never receive, they had spoken at the UN twice and the White House, there's no way the government couldn't have come up with some legitimate reason. But, whatever, they didn't. But when I hear that Olympians, and classical musicians, and politicians kids, and even some politicians themselves, and some engineers and others have all been exempted and they wouldn't exempt the group of men that I guarantee has brought more interest and money to SK than even the Olympians, it really angers me. I'm very proud of how the guys have handled what may have been a rather disappointing realization that once again, their government didn't mind using them, but wouldn't stand up for them and acknowledge their great contributions to SK. But as they've done with all of their disappointments these past 10 years, I am very confident that they will make the best lemonade from this. Yes they will make their military service make them stronger, they will serve with honor and grace and they will come out having found a way to learn from it. This does not mean I'm not worried about them as well, because while I think they are such strong people mentally and physically, the future is not set and they will be met with challenges they are probably not used to. I've heard plenty of the bullying and not great stories about how other idols are treated in the military. They won't have anyone there to protect them. Their bodyguards are gone. So, while I'm sure they won't all have bad experiences, there is always a chance that one of them will end up in a unit that has someone who may not like them, or allows others to harrass them, so that does worry me. I HOPE with everything that none of that happens. But the truth is there are many idols who come out of the military and are never the same, and come out with trauma. So, the chance is always there. But I'm going to believe that our guys have trained for 10 years to withstand any kind of bullying, so hopefully even if that happens they will be able to come out at the other end just fine. And I don't even want to think about anything worse like them actually having to fight if that crazy NK leader does something crazy. So there is my two cents, I'm proud of the guys, and I'm extremely optimistic that everything will work out and in 2025 or there abouts we will witness a comeback that will be so epic that the world is not even ready for it. But I cannot lie. This entire mess did make me think more negatively about their government, which shouldn't be surprising, most governments aren't really too much to write home about, but I really did think that what I'd learned about their culture and how amazing BTS were, that it was possible that their country was different from what I've begun to expect from government and sadly they showed me differently. But, I'll survive. I just won't be spending my money on SK products and I won't be planning my visit to SK until BTS are all back and past this part.

I just found your YouTube channel and came to join your Patreon. Thank you for sharing your journey, although I am not a new army it feels nice rewatching these moments with genuine men as yourself. I found a bts video at a time when I didn’t want to be in this cruel world. It was hobi and jk , jungkook was hugging hobi and i don’t know why it brought tears to my eyes seeing that genuine love they had. Made me think what kind of person would I be if I got love like that growing up. So after that I went down the rabbit hole of bts and never looked back. They taught me so much and how I needed to face my traumas head on and beat them. They also taught me to love myself and that I am worthy of life even if I think I am not.

Their government has been dragging them along for long enough and I’m glad that BTS got the last laugh. Im so glad this was done on THEIR terms. The politicians and other invested companies trying to get exemptions for their own benefit are left scrambling now. We waited during the pandemic. JJ i hope you 2 come to find out the absolute power move BTS made in deciding to enlist on their own, their government has been hanging exemption in their faces for the last 4 years and still have not made a decision. Became an army when I was 19 and I’ll be 27 when they return 💜 I felt this coming and I’m happy that they were able to make the decision themselves instead of the government to decide finally. I have a little over two year to learn Korean😂 time to get my life together before they return. I want to be the best version of myself for them and me. Thank you, but we’ve passed the denial stage and jumped straight to humor at this point, my whole Twitter timeline’s filled with hilarious shit. Everyone claiming they’re military wives😂 But all jokes aside, I think its such a boss move. SK government wanted to see BTS’ impact after the Busan concert before making a decision, but the boys were one step ahead. From the way no news/media outlet released articles on time, its obvious that none knew of their decision beforehand. They went ahead and enlist themselves, that was such a power move. They also made it CLEAR that they didn’t do the Busan concert for exemption (unlike what all the medias were trying to portray), they did it for ARMY.

The truth is that after being an Army for so long, it is news that we knew would come sooner or later, and although I feel very sad and empty, I also feel very calm because I trust them a lot. Honestly, I’m just glad they were able to make this decision for themselves. The government kept on stringing them along and were FINALLY going to announce their decision on exemption/alternate service (or lack thereof) in December. At least this way, BTS have full control over their career and don’t owe anyone ANYTHING. Now nobody can say they’re being given special treatment. Their service will be under THEIR TERMS and they won’t have to work/perform under the government’s circumstances. You can’t have it both ways!!

Honestly hearing the news was a lot easier than I thought it would be. My theory is hearing them constantly reassure us that this isn’t the end and that they want to be bts for 20 or 30 more years if they can truly washed all worries away for me. I know them and they know us we have a bond that cannot be broken by time, distance, or circumstance. So I’m not worried just excited for the future. By the time they reconvene I’ll be a college graduate starting my careeer as a wildlife biologist and I’ll be proud to say “Hey look at what I achieved while you were away”. I am sad that we won't get tours and such in the next 2 years. However I am so very proud of them for making the decision for themselves and not waiting for the Korean government to make the decision for them. Well its nothing we didn't expect. But the Korean military service has 2 level a civil and regular. While basic is required he will still be able to perform and stuff with approval. The statement says they prepared a lot in advance like Run bts, etc. RM said recently they are protecting what's theirs. As with this hiatus we saw how much content came out. Jin 1st then jhope and sugar. The rest will be in 2023. Then they all will done at the end of 2024.

It's bittersweet, but I was honestly hoping that they would be allowed to do their military service. I wonder how much of the hesitation was because of what the company wanted rather than the members themselves. Considering the pride they take in their country and people, I can't see this as a bad thing, even if it means it'll be some time before we see OT7 again. None of this changes how I feel or my status as ARMY. We'll be here when they're done.

Honestly i trust BTS and i know they will come back one day. I can’t imagine how hard it was for them to finalize this decision, but they know themselves better. We still have 6 more solo albums and photo books so I’m excited for that. I’ll keep supporting them and when they come back i’ll be almost done with university so that’s exciting. Time honestly flies so before we know it they’ll be back, hopefully well rested. As they say, the best is yet to come.

After a few minutes of shock this morning, it's actually been okay. I was expecting it, kind of. The government discussed an exemption option since 2018 even though BTS and Bighit never asked, they were only dragged into this because other labels used them as prime examples to get their own idols out of enlistment. BTS took the heat for it even though, right from the start, they said they will enlist when the time comes. I am more than proud of them that they do this on their terms, not waiting out on a decision from the government any longer. And they already told us when they'd come back together, so they definitely have a plan mapped out to some extend. I trust them with my life, and no matter what, I'll be here when they come back united. And for all their solo works in between of course. Luckily a lot of ARMYs took it in a good way, especially on twitter there are so many memes going around...we cope with humour :D And there will probably be streaming partys for anniversaries of songs or albums, we can keep ourselves busy as well while showing BTS through events and numbers that we're still here for them, always. <3

Well...right now I'm literally crying. I read the news in school and I didn't have time to digest the information that we won't see all of the guys together until 2025. I am home right now and I've realized that I will be 20 at the time, Jin will be 33 and my baby JK is going to be 28...i broke down crying. They've been a HUGE part of my life for 3 years now, they give an unexplainable peace and comfort, I have no words to explain. I know they're strong but just seeing how idols are treated in the military makes my heart break and it fills my mind with worries. I trust them with all my heart but I can't help but be sad with all of this. This sucks but thank u so much for your support!!

Thank you for posting this. I personally feel fine, I think we were waiting for it, if you don't know, it has been looming over them for years now, and I think the worst moment was on June 14 earlier this year, now I think ARMY is handling it much better than expected. Twitter ARMYs are such a comfort, they are hilarious and supportive, so it's easier to cope. Now, I don't know if you are aware but BTS while planning on releasing solo projects before going to the military also will release units works, and HYBE has prepared a lot of content to keep the fans happy. Also, apparently they will enlist all before mid-2023. I plan to keep supporting them, no matter what, I will wait patiently, 2 years isn't much, and as you said, it gives you and many the time to catch up on their content. Let's keep having fun ! Hey you two! I'm feeling relieved we finally have clarity! Having followed this debate of military exemption, postponement and enlistment being a political ploy in South Korea, this news comes like a big, long overdue FU to the politicians and other entertainment sectors who wanted to piggyback off of BTSs success. They always said they'll serve when called upon and as soon as I saw that they are releasing an anthology album, and the tracklist (yet to come as the last song of the group songs and then the solo songs as their 'future') I knew that this is the decision they would make. It makes total sense and it's what other kpop artists have done before them. I just hope they'll be ok during their time serving, I know it is not easy for most men, being so uprooted out of their lives against their will. Honestly, they will still keep us busy in some way, for sure! Really looking forward to their solo activities! And of course, to you two having some time to catch up with their group content hahahaha Lots of love to ARMY. You all are the only reason why I am not feeling distressed or upset. Because I know ARMYs are strong and honestly the most amazing and supportive fandom ever! Let's wait for them and keep our side of the promise 💜

I sent you guys a long message this morning, but I'll reiterate the key point: I'm so proud of them for doing this on their terms. They've been telling us to trust them and we absolutely will. We will be there in 2025 (or whenever) ready to give them the biggest comeback in history. As for "catching up," HAHAHAHA! BTS has had this planned for months (at least before the Festa dinner in June). They have so much backlogged content for us that everyone thinking they're going to catch up is fooling themselves. They will keep us well fed (Jin's single is going to be released this week or next!). However, I'm going to try to watch things that I've missed like V Lives and Bangtan Bombs! Someone said that if we watch one episode of Run BTS a week starting from the beginning, that will take us to October 2025. And that's just one show! Army also has reactors like the two of you to go on a journey with over the next few years. As long as you keep doing what you're doing, it'll be like the were never gone. Love this message! You're are correct - if we trust BTS, there is no limit to what they can overcome. 1. I was expecting the news. The announcement came a little sooner than I thought, and it still hurt. Just because you know you're about to rip off a bandaid, doesn't mean it doesn't hurt when you! My heart ached... but I had a good chat with my fellow army, and we all agreed that we're all so proud of the boys for steering their career on their OWN TERMS. We'll all be eagerly awaiting 2025, and also seeing what they have planned for all the time between now and then. 2. What can you do to help? Just keep doing what you're doing - reliving the discovery of BTS through you is a great joy, and makes it feel like I'm seeing old stuff for the first time again. 3. While I am sad and quite frankly have no clue what the fuck I’m gonna do without a BTS comeback for the next 3 years, I’m so proud of the members. I’m glad that they didn’t wait on South Korea’s government to make their decision. I’ve always had the feeling that they were going to go through with it whether or not they were excused from the requirement because they’re just so dutiful that way and want to make their country and their fans proud, too. I wish them the best and I can’t wait for them to come back in 2025 better and bigger than ever. I was 14 when I became an army, I'll be 20 when they come back in 2025, I spent my teenage years with them💜. That year I will be facing life through the eyes of an adult, I will be busy with university and hopefully a job, I don't think I will have time to be an active army, but with the heart I will always remain with them and with the fandom, i laughed and cried in these 5 years, there wasn't a day without them, that's why i decided to get a tattoo during this time, i don't want to let myself forget the happiness they gave me

I think most of us were sad at first but I think most of us turned to humour to save ourselves. Army twitter is honestly so funny right now. The memes and videos being shared are cheering us up bit by bit. We fully trust and believe the boys will do right by themselves and we will support them no matter what they decide. We will wait no matter how long we need to. Most of us are also excited for them to make new experiences but scared because we know how idols can be treated in the army (exploited because of fame or blackmailed by other soldiers) and how other idols spoke about the trauma that has caused to them. But I think at the end of the day true ARMY will support BTS no matter what.

My heart dropped and I shed a small tear when I saw the notification. But at the same time, it was no surprise as they too have spoken publicly about their enlistment. Should they have gotten a waiver? Yes, but tbh, I’m not Korean nor I have the right to speak about their laws and such. I am very much thankful to find them in 2013, went back to them in their Dark and Wild era after some personal issues and was able to experience my first BTS concert in Los Angeles before my birthday. (Yes, it took me that long to see them because life happens and throws so many surprises). Even as an old ARMY, I have yet to watch all their content! I have time to listen to other artist, find a new hobby (not that I wasn’t before), spend more learning the Korean language and more. 2025 seems long, but the day will come soon. ☺️💕

Personally of course I am sad that we won't get to see our 7 forever artists for a period of time but I am also actually really happy. Because at the end of the day it was their choice. The South Korean government was discussing about their exemption since 2018 and they always went from one opinion to another so now they finally said "Fuck it. We just go - we don't care what the government wants us to do." The news were also released at a timing that is very unusual so yeah they wanted army to know first (as usual) and wanted to make one last special memory before their service. I'm glad they had that busan concert and felt all the love from army. Also I'm sure they'll keep us entertained in the mean time :D. We are a big purple family who support each other and as Joonie and Hobi said: as long as we trust each other everything will be allright. Als 2 years??? that's not a long time. We still have a schedule for bts in 2039 don't forget! ;)

To be honest, I'm sad and happy, and I am annoyed. For 1, I am sad because I will miss them, although they most definitely have enough content to keep up entertained for a while, plus they won't join all together so the solo activities will help ease the wait. Second, I am happy that they are doing it on their own terms. They are defying the gov that's only looking at their own benefit. BTS has been taking heat because the gov has made it seem like they didn't want to fulfill their duty which is not true because, by their values army knows that even if they are exempt, every member would want to go and do what they're supposed to do as SK citizens, and I am glad they made the decision and announced it themselves. Lastly, I am annoyed at how the antis are reacting and spitting negativity against BTS and ARMY. We can only wait and hope they make the best of the time they spend away. In BTS I trust!!

But still I feel sad after the news came out. And although I personally do not agree I respect their decision and will patiently wait when BTS return back in 2025. It was bittersweet to be honest, the selfish part of me is sad because we won’t be able to see them together for the next two years but the other part of e was relieved as I know and as most ARMY know this matter was a huge pressure, one of the biggest things they were going through, and the fact that they can finally share this with us is a relief for them and for us. Joon’s tears and attitude these last few weeks were the biggest proof that something related to this was coming and the fact that they announced the solo work initiated. I find myself mixed in emotions this morning. I’m a pandemic era ARMY, so this military discussion has been going in longer than my fandom. I came into it knowing that this was likely the outcome. I’m still sad, but I know this removes one more “thing” their critics held against them. All I can say now is that I’m going to focus on saving a large sum of funds to be ready for their comeback — because, like hell I won’t be there, wherever it is. I also know that South Korea has a different viewpoint on military enlistment than we do in America and it is viewed as an honor to be able to serve in the military. It was a sad news but at the same time I feel relief that finally the decision was made. For more than 2 years army and BTS were so worried what’s going to happen,. A lot of debate from the S Korea government and politicians used BTS for their own agenda. I hope the decision was made from the boys but 2 years is short and I’m here waiting for them to come back.

On Twitter I saw a lot of Armies planning on becoming the best version of themselves until 2025 (Graduating, getting fit, looking out for their own health, learning Korean and so on). I think that's beautiful. Like many international fans, I would have prefered for them to continue making music, but as I understand it, many Koreans would have forever looked down on them for not serving. I just really hope they can spend at least some time together and they are treated fairly in the military (some idols seem to have had problems with invasion of privacy) 💜

Honestly for guys who have recently got into BTS this genuine post and reaction and consideration for how ARMY must be feeling makes it absolutely worth it to pay and support your patreon. Your character has been nothing short of humbleness and willingness to genuinely get to know the boys and I understand the fandom and for that you are appreciated 💜. In terms of enlistment I am SO PROUD of the boys that they have taken this matter into their own hands and made the decision themselves without waiting for the government (who has been stringing them along and using then quite frankly) to make a decision. Armys aren’t going anywhere. In Twitter, many of us are getting ready to be in the “military wife era” 🫡 as a way to lighten up the mood and move forward as we TRUST in the boys decisions. Many of us in the fandom knew this might happen and the boys had already set us up for preparation throughout the year with their words and actions starting with their Festa dinner and ending with Busan concert ending speeches. I am a little worried for their safety and privacy as they head into service as there are stories of other idols being exploited by the military for their own profits and needs but I will remain hopeful and supportive of the boys regardless. Honestly, I was kinda not surprised at the announcement. June 14th was worse because of the miscommunication with media outlets spreading misinformation about BTS disbanding. Twitter is a mix of the stages of grief with a lot of “this is what bts would be like in the military” videos that are funny. I’m just proud because instead of following along with the government, they actually decided this on their own to do it on their own terms. When BTS found me, I was in my third year of studying for a bachelor's degree, and now I am in my last year of my master's studies, and moreover, it is my last year , I feel that my energy for studying has disappeared. Honestly, I have not stopped watching the concert in its entirety. It felt different from the start, I have never seen them go so HARD! Then the speeches. It kept me up, I have had little sleep. I was awake when the news hit. I teared up but I did not cry, I closed my laptop and went to sleep. I feel like a best friend is moving away. And all I will have are memories until we meet again. As a military brat and former wife I have felt this often. We will be ok, we knew this was coming and they will return or we will go and visit. Thank you for posting this. To be honest, I felt sort of relieved that they took matter into their own hands now and just decided to move forward with the enlistment. This decision has been dragging for so long from the government. At least now they can make concrete plans for each member. I’m sad that I haven’t seen them live yet before this happened. And i’m gonna miss the hell out of them. But just like they taught us, I’ve learned to find the positive in every situation. This just means that the first time I see them live once they come back will be much sweeter. For now, i’ll look forward to all the solo projects that are coming our way until 2023 and keep watching/re-watching all their contents, and just continue to listen to their music. For me Festa dinner for this year was way more emotional then this news. I am absolutely proud of them for not letting fear hold them back. Think about it.. we are going to miss 7 of them and we are so scared and sad. Yes, the whole concert hits very differently after hearing the news this morning. Even though the news made me little sad this doesn't mean the end. We all will be here waiting for their reunion. I even saw some Armys joked about being a military wife now for BTS that made me laugh. What gives me so much comfort is all the words the members used on their ending ment for Busan concert and time really goes by quickly. I’m prouder than ever. Not because they’re serving the country, I personally think they are DESERVING of an exemption. They have served their country for 9 years bringing great economic value and spreading Korean culture to the rest of the world like no other. None in their history. If classical musicians and Olympians get an exemption, there is no reason they can’t. So I’d like to say, fck the government. But the reason why I’m proud, is that they took matters in their own hands. They decided on their paths, and they faced it head on, they have so much confidence and trust in ARMYs and themselves. Thank you for posting this and creating this space for us 💜I read the news right before going to bed last night and I felt sad and devastated even though it was something foreseeable. However, I'm glad that we know now. I know they hate to keep things from us and knowing they had made this decision and weren't able to tell us until now must've been extremely hard and stressful for all of them. I'm also glad that THEY chose THEY'RE own terms. It was painful to watch how other kept dragging the situation and figuring out ways to milk them and I can imagine it must have been a thousand times more painful for them. I'm relieved that there's no more uncertainty hanging over their heads now. Still, this doesn't take away from the fact that I'm sad, nervous, stressed... There's a lot of things we have no control over, and neither will they, but I do know that we love them and they love us. This is soo sweet and got me tearing up 😭! Upon hearing the news felt my heart drop but soon after got overtaken by emotions of relief. I am incredibly proud of the boys taking matters into their own hands and coming to the decision on their own accords finally ending years of uncertainty and being dragged around. I also impressively took the news much better than what I had expected, better than June 14th (the festa dinner) for sure hahaha but I think that's cause of the boys constant reassurance that there is more to come and the best is truly yet to come. I wholeheartedly trust and believe them, so that's making it a bit easier. But the emotions are now slowly catching up to me and I am easily getting teary just thinking of them (could also all the pent up stress, frustrations and fear of school stuff), but alas I have decided to let my self feel all these emotions and not be restricted to only feeling one thing. I will be graduating uni next year after studying 3 years which I still can’t believe but also shows that these 2-3 years to come will pass by quickly. Thank you for writing this Jared and Jordan, I gotta be honest, I wasn’t surprised hearing this news but was still sad. I am actually glad they took this decision instead of agreeing to whatever deals the government was proposing (such as letting them do performances oversees and rehearsals together WHILE they were serving, like no let them breath!) which wouldn’t have benefited BTS but it was just them using the boys to earn money. Im glad they took their own decision taking off guard their government who has been talking about exempting them for 4 years now making them live in the uncertainty. Yet again sk government wanted to see bts' impact with the busan concert to make a decision but BTS did the concert, cancelled the military postponement and made a decision themselves instead. I have so much respect for these men. Anyways ARMYS dont worry too much, we still have so much content to look forward to. Remember that we still have 6 solo albums/projects. Similar to how some others have expressed, I knew this coming and am glad that on some level it is being done on THEIR terms. I know their country is important to them and I respect that fully. I am beyond excited to enjoy the fruits of labor with their solo work. Hobi's Jack in the Box was a Masterpiece and I just know all the members will be masterpieces in their own unique ways that I am so ready for. I love them and their uniqueness so much. I am sooo ready to go along this journey with you, especially as I am also on this journey as I just found BTS August of this year. They came when I least expected and I am so thankful. Thank you for your message, I really did appreciate you both posting it. To be honest, I didn't know what to feel when I heard the news morning when I woke up. I am sad but not devastated like I thought I would be, it's probably because Army knew that this was already a possibility and this debate of them serving has been going on for years now. Once I did get the chance to catch up on my feeling, a small wave of sadness did come, but at the same time, I am proud of their choice. I count myself lucky that I've been able to grow with BTS for the past 7 to almost 8 years, but to know that this is just part of their journey and we as Army have so many years ahead. You asked if there was anything you both can do to help and I believe the best thing you can do is continue doing what you have been doing, reacting, and discovering BTS as a newer Army. I do find it comforting and joyous watching your content. Looking forward to what is next.

I think that, while I’m very sad, I trust in every single member of BTS. I was secretly hoping they wouldn’t have to enlist, but I think I always knew that they would- even if they actually got the exemption. I believe in them enough to stay. And it’s not like I’m alone and to not like there will be nothing for me to consume- I’ll still have the other ARMYs and I’ll be able to watch you guys go through your journey- which will be like reliving it and getting to do it all over again. I’m also still figuring out ny own life- working after college graduation and navigating life as a preschool teacher, a life away from my family and supporting myself, new relationships. I am honestly proud of them and relieved that a decision has been made. I’m proud of them that they took control of the situation, will serve their time and owe nobody anything (owe politicians favors for giving them a dispensation for example). There was also talk of the government letting them ‘enlist and still do concerts’ which was basically a way for the government to profit and use the boys (because by law they can’t make money while in the military so all profit would go to the government). I heard Psy did this and they made him enlist again - I’m not 100 percent sure on all the details but am just glad the boys will just enlist and get it over with. Because the best is yet to come! I trust them and will be here waiting for them when they’re back - plus we have all their solo stuff to look forward to! Let’s be honest, we’ll have plenty to keep us busy! Plus all the content they’ve already given us! I saw a tweet on Twitter (Twitter Army is hilarious right now) that said the government had obviously never watched Run BTS because there are always plot twists! I found out on a news screen at work (live in Europe) and honestly I'm so god damn proud of them. It can't have been easy. They've probably known for months but couldn't talk about it until after Busan. They're doing this, like they've done everything before, for army and themselves. Since the beginning they've been putting up the fight for their generation, always down to earth and humble. This is just another example of that. AND with all the hate they already get from all sides, they had to do this. No matter what the politicians would decide in December. So making this decision now is the smartest move. You're so right. I woke up this morning to see that post. I am a little sad about the news, but more than anything I am so proud of them for standing up against the public who were trying to make this decision for them. This is something they want to do so as an ARMY, I am mostly happy that they are fulfilling the duties that they've always wanted to as citizens of South Korea. I will continue to support them no matter what and will always be here for them. In the meantime, I am going to make sure I prosper so that by the time they come back, I'll be ready to fully support them and maybe even go to a concert. As for me personally I think I've been preparing myself for this news for a while and even if yes, a little part of me feel sadness about not being able to see the seven of them together for a while, what I'm feeling the most is proudness for them, and the fact that it looks like they were able to make the decision themselves as well as so much love and trust its overwhelming. I think ever since they've announced the start of chapter 2 a lot of us had figured out that the enlistment talk would be coming quickly, but ever since the start of this new chapter the boys have done nothing except reassuring us, asking us to trust them and promising that the best is yet to come and all those words they've shared with us is a huge part of why I'm taking the new so well lmao. First I wanted to say thank you for this post! It was about 2:30 am right when I was about to set my phone down to sleep, that I got the notification. Like many other army's, I think I went through the five stages of grief all in under one hour this early morning. At first I was extremely saddened by the news, and my heart especially dropped reading the number "2025". The first thing I did was go on twitter, and I immediately saw that I wasn't alone in this feeling. It was comforting to know that I wasn't alone, and that there are many others that are feeling these feelings with me. After I started to calm down from the heavy dread I felt, I started to realize that this was something they NEEDED to do for themselves. They took their destiny into their own hands, and laid out paths for their futures themselves. I think above all, it is extremely admirable. It made me even more prouder to stan and support this amazing group. 2025 seems like a long way, however with how the months have been seeming to pass lately, I think it will go by in no time. We still have 6 of the members solo music to look forward to as well! I have only been an army for a little over a year now, and I still have so much content to catch up on myself! I think this will be the perfect opportunity to do so (for you both as well). I have also been learning Korean, so I am extremely excited to see how fluent I will be by the time they are all together again. I cannot wait to see how much they grow, and I do as well in this time. It will be exciting and the anticipation to see them together again will be like no other. I read the weverse statement at 9 am, after 10 minutes I woke up and I've been crying all day. Surely it cannot be a happy day because this is not only about the distance and the break, military service is an heavy experience for everyone, their exemption could have been a first step towards a choice for everyone, but this is it. We have been through a lot and it is once again time to prove that "bangtan" is not just a word. The only thing they deserve and need now is support and we are here, always have and always will. Overall, I am okay...this news has been floating around for sooo long, I knew it was going to happen eventually. Plus I feel like they eased us into this and have been preparing us for this news for a while now, just from words alone, you could kinda tell this was were we were headed. Honestly i felt things shift during the release of Proof, and Festa kinds solidified what I was feeling. I cried during festa so I didn't cry today. I just felt content (?), because I know, like BTS said 'the best moment is yet to come'. And I look forward to it. 2025 will come quick, who knows what I will be doing at that time, but I do know that when they reunite, I will be there. Just wishing for their safe return! i was actually just typing up an explanation for y’all to send in the dms just in case lmao. 1st, thank you so much for immediately listening to the tannies and no one else. it is all they’ve ever asked of us and it’s the least we can do. i loved you guys so much already but this has truly made me respect you even more! i woke up at 5am to the news on my phone and a bunch of friends (people i’ve met through twitter army and love dearly) checking up on me to make sure i was okay. i won’t lie to you, the initial response was sadness. it’s been hit after hit for us this year and this was a lot. however, i’ve listened and talked with may other army and we realized this is actually a good thing in the grand scheme of things. the sk government have been manipulating and using the tannies for YEARS at this point. i’ve seen it all from the beginning (army for 6 years) it has been nothing but stressful and demeaning for them and for us. especially considering the tannies had no problem with going. having them announce it the way they did means BTS decided on their own to go no matter what and no longer allow others to tell them what to do. it’s a huge statement to everyone and the ytc concert make a lot of sense now. especially raplines songs. at the end of the concert there was a strange energy all around, thought not a bad one. i couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was but now i have. it’s relief. they’re so relieved to have finally made this decision and know they’re sharing it with us and have control again. honestly, so am i. so while yes i’m going to miss them terribly, i’m also so beyond proud of them for doing what’s right for them. the rest of my response is not just for you, jared and jordan, but for anyone in the comments who might need it. i know 2 years seems like a very long time but let me put it into perspective for y’all. we waited almost as long between be and the ytc comeback and we were totally okay. we never got bored or ran out of content and it was all okay. this will be no different. we still also have 6 solos to love and support. besides for a few months, there will always be at least on tannie still around to be with us (army has taken to calling this the babysitter) and even once enlisted, after training, they can still have their phones, they can still post on social media, and they can still be with us whenever. plus i’m sure they have tons of vaulted entertainment just for this. did you know if you watch one run BTS ep a week you’ll have one for every week they’re all gone? I wasn't shocked, I expected it to happen, I was surprised only by the form in which they presented it - directly to the ARMY, without the participation of the media, on their own terms (I RESPECT that deeply). I, for one, will be here. 2-3 years is nothing to me, I’ve been here for the past 8 years and I’ll be here for the coming 10, 20, 30, 70 years. They really saved me when I was still a wandering teenager, they made me feel comforted and guided me through some of my toughest times. They are more than a musical group, more than a lifestyle, they are family to me. They raised my mentality and helped me get rid of lots of bad things in life. I love them to the fullest, and I mean every word when I say I’ll be here forever. It’s not a phase for me, its not a word I use lightly, but I’ll always use it on Bangtan. i learned about the news last night and cried on and off for the next two hours before i went to bed. and then i cried again this morning when i told my parents. i’m now in class and can’t cry anymore even tho i really want to but i can guarantee i’m gonna cry again later. i’ve been with bts since 2017 and i’ve been mentally preparing myself for this moment since 2020 and even tho time always goes by quicker than we think, it’s still gonna hurt like hell when they leave. but i trust them with my entire being and i’m not leaving. they’re my best friends and i’m truly praying for their health and safety.

I would say we've been watching this go back and forth for a few years now. It doesn't lessen the sadness, it was somewhat expected. I, like many in stories you’ve read, have been forever changed by the Bangtan boys. Before stumbling across them more than two years ago now, I never truly knew myself and had nearly lost myself after raising 5 wonderful kids. Honestly, I'm glad they got to make the decision themselves instead of waiting to hear what the goverment decided. The guys have always said they would service when it was time, so I think we should always take their word as the truth they want to share with us. I'm okay, but I know once I see them all together again I'll bawl my eyes out(Just like I did when I watched the YTC in BUsan concert). Bangtan Forever! ARMY Forever! There will be a great void without BTS. How they have impacted my life for the better and the absence of that will be felt. While I don’t agree with mandatory military service, I have to respect these young men and the country they live in and choose to honour by doing what is required of them. BTS never backs down from responsibility and difficult roads, and so this is a testimony to who they are. So I will strive to be as strong and unselfish, continue to trust and support them as I always have, and let’s face it…we will have a comeback party for the history books when they return!

To be completely honest, the first emotion I felt was RELIEVED. They have put up with so many sh*ts regarding the issue from every direction, and even put up with how the SK government used BTS for their own benefits (the Busan concert is one example). And now.. they take their only weakness, i.e. the military issue, to make a very bold statement by taking the final decision into their own hands instead of waiting for the government to decide for them. As a long-time Army, I'm glad for them.. although I'm still worrying over what the SK government and media's next move would be after this announcement.

I read the announcement right when it was released and my heart dropped. I know that this is a good thing for them and I can't help but be happy for them. I will support them no matter what, as long as they are happy with what they are doing. I also found myself sad about this because BTS literally has been the reason for my recent smiles and laughter. I have complete faith and trust in our Boys and I’m glad to finally have this issue settled once and for all! I just wished they all enlisted together so they can come back at the same time and the wait time would be less for us but it is what it is. Hi, I just joined your patreon. I'm from Indonesia and my English is bad. But I want to share my story about this news. When I read the notification from Big Hit this afternoon, I cried. I am a mother and have a 9 years old daughter. I got to know BTS in 2016. At that time I liked them because they were all cute. Only that. Then in 2020, I got some bad news. My husband suddenly divorced me. That time was my worst time. I remember that time I was at the train station waiting for the train to pass. I purposely put on earphones, playing songs loudly because at that time I was about to run and crashed myself when the train passed. Just then I heard the announcement that the train was going to pass, I started running and the song "Make It Right" played. As soon as I heard the song, I immediately stopped running and cried so hard. I felt at that time they gave me encouragement, they told me that I was worthy, they even tried to survive for me. From there, every day I always listen to BTS songs and regain my passion for life and dare to dream and organize life from scratch. Thank God I'm much better now. Back again about the BTS news, to be honest I'm sad not to be able to see the seven of them perform until 2025 but I'm also proud of their decision. I will faithfully wait for BTS. I'm sure BTS will not disappoint me and all ARMYs in the world.

There are 300-400+ songs, music videos, live performances, award shows, Vlives, dance practices, 100+ episodes of Run Bts, 2 seasons of In the Soop, 4 seasons of Bon Voyage, season packagings throughout the years, memories DVDs, 3 movies, multiple official documentary series, variety shows, all the Bangtan Bombs, Bangtan episodes, behind the scenes, past concerts, past festas, song covers. There are also so much fan made content such as compilation videos, try not to laugh videos, member chemistry videos (I’m talking about bonds not ships), over thousands of good ones. Thank you for creating this safe space and also validating our right to feel whatever we feel right now. I already read a few of the other comments here and will surely return to read some more, it helps to know I’m not alone with my feelings and thoughts. There is a range of feelings coursing through me right now. Like many others, I feel immensely proud of them for taking control of the situation and making a choice for themselves. This will also be a once in a lifetime experience for them! An adventure almost. It will surely help them grow as men and as artists, as all experiences do. At the same time I can’t deny feeling a sense of sadness and loss, of course I know they are not going anywhere and that during these years we will be given so much content and gorgeous music and we’ll get to witness their artistic growth as individuals, but there is still a difference there. Getting used to this new phase will take a moment and it doesn’t mean we don’t trust them. Feeling some melancholy due to this change is completely normal and okay. The BTS we’ll see in 2025 will at the same time be the very same BTS we love and adore and yet they’ll not be the same at all. That is what growth is. So to add to the range of feelings within me now, I’ll mention nostalgia. There will be songs and choreographies we’ll never witness live again… even the structure of their concerts might change - as it has done already - as the members become older. It is just what age does to us all. But sometimes we all yearn for the younger days and I think it is okay to do so as a fan also. Most importantly though, I feel love and gratitude towards my boys, they’ve given us so much already and they’ll keep giving us more. I will love them til the end, supporting them through every step of the way. And you guys, opening this conversation is already making us feel better so thank you again for that ❤️

I am so so so sooo proud of them that finally K media and government has nothing to do with their military enlisment anymore. Sk government wanted to see the bts' impact with busan concert to make a decision regarding their enlistment but the boys did the concert, cancelled the military postponement and made a decision themselves instead. Thanks guys, at first I was really sad but after a while I realized I'm actually proud of them, because they have mentioned a bunch of times when the receive their letter they would enlist.. but the SK government has been taking so long (since 2018) to decide if the boys will be exempted that Bangtan just decided to take matters into their own hands.. they do get ridiculed many times because of this matter. But right now I'm feeling proud and army Twitter cheered me up because while we started out with the five stages of grieve we skipped a whole bunch of those stages and went straight to joking, so we took the news exceptionally well.. besides this gives me time to focus on my studies (I'm a first year student at the university of South Africa) and I can rewatch content in my free time.. I can't wait for the day when we receive that weverse notification informing us of BTS comeback.. so I'll be here waiting for them💜Bangtan fighting!!💜

Hi, this is my first comment to you both and I thought sharing my thoughts about this topic is a good way to start. Some might be sad about this news, but in all honesty, being an army since 2016 this is the kind of news I wanted to hear. Before, I would have been sad hearing their enlistment, but after the whole drama about this topic, I’m glad BTS and Hybe took everything in their own hands. Maybe you’ve heard a little history about this matter, but BTS never wanted an exemption for their military enlistment. The media used BTS’ name to show that Kpop idols “deserved” to be exempted too like the Olympic athletes. Other entertainment companies also raised their voices to exempt their idols. The government then changed the law and decided that only those that contributed enough to SK (like BTS) and received the Cultural Merrit Medal (like BTS) could get a shortened/exempted military enlistment. Now when that law came, entertainment companies started to nag as that was impossible to achieve for their idols (mind you those same companies had been downgrading BTS’ achievements since the beginning). Then more years passed with a back and forth tugging whether BTS should be exempted or given a shorter enlistment period. Either way they wanted BTS to do one of the two. But, the boys had always been open about their enlistment and wanted to do their duty when they were called upon. (They never once mentioned wanting to be exempted, because they wanted to serve their country). Now recently (few months ago) the government had decided to give BTS a shorter enlistment and allowing them to still do their promotion while serving their country. Mind you that the law for enlisted soldiers is to not have any sort of income or promotion during their enlistment. Which means that the money BTS would earn during their enlistment will be all for the country and not a single money to our boys. The government wanted to apply this f*cked up system in december after deciding what kind of impact the Busan concert would give them. So, yes I feel more relieved than sadness in all honesty. Because all this mess started with rumours and tainted out boys’ name for not “serving” their country like everyone else. BTS and Hybe gave a big fat 🖕🏼 to everyone who messed with them and ARMY. They decided this for themselves and brought the news to army first before releasing it to the media. This is how much they love and respect us, because they know ARMY deserved to hear this first. Either way, Army will have enough content and BTS will feed us well during those two years they are not together as a group and when they are together again. Oh, I can’t wait how big of that bomb will be for all of us. Just like RM had said multiple times: Army should trust BTS. And that’s what I’m going to do and many more army too. We will trust and wait patiently for them to come back a whole again. I’m so sorry for the long comment and thank you so much for all the beautiful content you both had been releasing. Hi guys! Thank you for the message. I woke up very relieved with the news. Unfortunately, the SK government has been using BTS as a political scapegoat for the past 5 years, since 2017, with this issue since there have been talks of them being exempted from this law. They have been the face of Korean enlistment laws, especially within this past year, and I can only imagine how frustrated BTS were to know their future was essentially in the hands of politicians. This Busan concert was what the Korean government was most likely waiting for, to be able to calculate their economic impact and make a decision from that. It is incredibly significant that BTS decided to share this news almost immediately after the concert. It is a power move, to show that they didn't do this concert for exemption, but for ONLY the fans, and then took control of what they could with the situation. I am incredibly proud of their bravery in how they handled this highly polarizing topic that has been making headlines for years. To give you an idea of what BANGTAN (IMPORTANT NOTE: NOT KPOP) brings into the South Korean economy, in 2019 it was reported BTS had accounted for $4.65 Billion to the South Korean GP, which is enough to put them on the same economic level as SAMSUNG and HYUNDAI. This was 3 years ago and BTS has only grown bigger. It is also reported that between the years 2014 - 2023, BTS was projected to have contributed $29.1 TRILLION DOLLARS to the SK economy. When BTS' Hiatus news broke in June 2022, the South Korean National Pension Plan LOST 140 BILLION WON (roughly $98 Million USD) in just ONE WEEK. It is easy to assume SK will lose BILLIONS of dollars for not acting quickly when they had the chance, and for trying to keep BTS in the palm of their hand. Although I am saddened by the pressure they must have felt with this type of spotlight, I am proud that BTS is a historic figure with strong morals, and that ARMYs aren't going anywhere <3

I felt like they all would be enlisting when they released "The Best Is Yet To Come". Being 69 years young, it is my intentions on being alive to see them come back in 2025. I have you guys and ARMY!!! BTS is full of surprises and I just know we will be hearing from them during their military service. To tell you the truth, I honestly feel that when they all enlist and the government realizes the impact BTS has on this planet, they may get an early release. That's what I am hoping and praying for. I was up when the announcement was made and no matter how much I tried to go to sleep after I just couldn’t. Finally closed my eyes around 6 am. We all knew this was coming but actually seeing an official statement hit like a ton of bricks. The boys spoil us with so much content and love that we can’t help but be saddened by this news but at the same time are so so proud of each of them. They are always thinking of us and that’s why even the younger members will join within a few months of each other so they can complete their 18 month requirement and come back to us by 2025. I think they were preparing us for this since Festa. The Proof Anthology and “Yet To Come “ all makes more sense. I’m proud of them for taking control of this and ending the circus (shit show) about wether there would be exemptions or not. They will serve with pride as they have been doing especially through this past year, being used really to promote Busans Expo bid (which being JK &Jimins hometown) they would have done lovingly anyway. I’m not so sure this is over yet. I’m watching to see what kind of economic hit the markets take as they did with the Festa hiatus announcement. This was a totally 💯 BOSS move on their part to get back some control of their lives. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if an exemption doesn’t suddenly come out of nowhere because I don’t think the government expected them to make this move on their own. The news feeds are blowing up already. Either way ARMYS stand with them and for them. We can do 2 years standing on our heads. I’m not worried about them. Honestly, I felt so sad at first, my heart dropped to my stomach but we knew it was gonna happen and im so proud of them. They took the initiative to enlist instead of wait for the government and it's a power move. I know they will come back and I will definitely wait for them that's for sure. I know the general reaction is sadness, but honestly I'm happy and proud of their decision. They are taking charge of this military issue that has been dragged for years, and everyone knows they're deserving of that exemption with how much honor they brought to their country. They are just genuinely good people who strive to be role models regardless of their social status as The BTS. The details of how they'll specifically carry out their enlistment is not clear yet but if they're coming back as a group on 2025 that means all of them will have to enlist sometime next year or maybe early 2024 - the 3 youngest (Jimin, V and JK) will serve earlier than their due dates, JK still has until 2027 before he should go but if they're deciding to do this early, it only supports the fact that they're putting armys wishes in consideration. Most of us have been hoping they do it all together so they can come back sooner, and that's what they're doing. I'm happily waiting until 2025, and BigHit will definitely use their BTS vault and still feed us with content, plus you guys are here to give us awesome reactions. All is well 💜

I honestly believed that I would've been distraught over hearing the confirmation of their military enlistment the day I first heard about the possibility of it. However, I was surprised to find that when I found out about it today that nothing but a sense of calmness ensued within me. Instead, I felt such a warmth in my heart that I find it difficult to describe. I am purely and immensely proud of them. They have always spoken about their unrelenting need to perform a duty to their country -- something that I find truly admirable. It's not that I had to prepare myself. It's more of, in a sense, the day I became an ARMY was the day I, in my love language, said, "I've got you." A saying I would often tell the people I loved the most in the world, which translates to, "Whatever your decision is, I will be there to back you up and support you 100% and some. I will be here whenever you need me, and when I can't, please know that you will always have me." Their decision to enlist in the military deserved nothing less than, if not, even more, acceptance and support. Throughout the entire year that BTS has been there for me, had my back, made me laugh louder, smile brighter, love harder and taught me to better myself with each day, I've got them this time around. It's my turn to send love and shower them with support and encouragement, knowing how these boys often feel guilty for the choices they make. They often feel the need to apologise for it, but I hope with each loving comment they read, they no longer feel the need to do so. I will be looking forward to the day BTS and ARMY reunite once again -- wait for them until they come home. 💜 Thank you to you both for allowing each ARMY to express themselves without feeling judged. They brought to life the importante of “values”. Those are immortal and there’s no end to BTS because there will always be a bit of what we have learned through them. When I heard the news I felt sadness of course but I was also immensely proud because, once again, I’ve learned something from them. Nothing comes easily and everything in life is earned. It seemed to me at the time of the release of the news that I had died inside... I was in scripting practice when the notification popped up. This is very painful. I know the guys will be back (I trust them as much as myself), but they have my mental health in their hands. I don't know how to stay in my mind now and feel lost. Their songs pulled me out of my anxious state during all 8 months of the war. The latest news is pouring in one by one and there is a feeling that the world is going crazy with me. Bts has been my life line for the past 5 years. I have been battling with depression and bad anxiety for 6 years now. They have been one of my only reasons to wake up in the morning. Yesterday, I went to sleep with my chest very heavy. Like something was wrong. I woke up in the middle of the night to text messages from my friends telling me what happened. I started sobbing uncontrollably and I am still crying till now cause its a lot of pain in my heart rn. It feels very heavy. Im happy the boys made this decision themselves. I am happy that they r happy. Thats all I want from them, happiness. I hope in the future I can handle this news better but for now, I am just sad. I love ur reactions and those always make me happy. Of course, I was shocked, then sad, then really REALLY sad but I am just so proud of them over everything else! Jin has stated "I am ready to serve when my country calls upon me" last year I believe. So I knew it was coming soon. I really respect them for serving their country like all the men there are expected to do, and not try to get out of it because they are superstars. They had plans in motion, they released Yet To Come to tell us the best moments are still yet to come. And as you stated RM told us to trust them. BTS is the group that introduced me to Kpop, first group I stanned and still stan. I will support them and hope them the best through their enlistment. 2025 isn't that far away! I have been army since beginning of 2017 right when BTS were starting to make waves in the US and making a name for themselves and Korean culture. So I have been here for the entire time there has been discussion about bts and military exemptions. Of course I wanted them to not go because I will miss them and was scared for what it could mean because usually it’s a decline in a group and they may disband. But as BTS got bigger and bigger and the discussion became more often happening I started learning and realizing that I’m not Korean so I’ll never fully grasp the culture behind military enlistment and what it means to the Korean people and how not going could affect them. Overall I am just relieved that the boys made the decision on their terms since the last year we have been dragged with waiting to hear the government’s decision and having to be scared if the Korean public would turn their backs on them if they did get exempted. I’ll be sad when each of them goes but I am a fan of some other Korean artists and trust me 18 months goes by really fast and next thing you know they’re back and better than ever. I’m so excited for their solo projects and I think this is the best time for newer armys to be able to take time and be able to consume the motherload of content there is. I’m used to my favs leaving for their enlistment especially Korean actors so I’ve been through my deal of sadness many times already. I just plan to keep myself distracted and in good spirits. I'm at peace and proud of their decision. I'm newer ARMY but have known of them for years but wasn't ready for them. It's been a year plus since I officially became ARMY and it has been such an amazing experience to get to know them and fall in love with them. I was fortunate enough to see them in Las Vegas and Hobi at Hobipalooza along with my teen daughters. I'm so ready to catch up with all their content and will be waiting for them! ARMY strong!! You guys have such a way with words. That was beautifully stated. I honestly felt relief to finally know what was happening. If i was anxious about the waiting and not knowing what was happening, i can only imagine how they all felt. To finally have an answer, even if it’s not the one i wanted, is good. The suggestion of exemption should never have been made if it couldn’t be promised, but that is another conversation. I think knowing that they have planned this well enough to have a set date to reunite makes this easier. Just over two years is not very long. Back in the day artists would take up to 5 years between projects. (It was 6 years between Lemonade and Renaissance for Beyonce, but so worth the wait!). The guys will have experienced so much, i’m sure they will come out of this experience with new lessons to share in their music. More mature, all them will be in their 30’s except JK. Trust me, things just hit different in your 30’s. So i’m ready for 30 something Bangtan and chapter 3 of what I hope is a Neverending Story. In the meantime, that gives you guys 2 years to catch up on all their content. And maybe i’ll take that time and learn Korean.

I’m very sad and very scared for them in all honesty. Army have done really well to react positively and with humour on twitter but I feel bad that I can’t contribute to that. I’m miserable about it and I think they’ve also been really let down by their country. I think everything they’ve contributed and done to support South Korea has been pushed aside because they’re idols. They’ve contributed over 20 trillion dollars to the economy and promoted their language, culture and food across the world. Well it only took 5 years to waiver around about this when Bighit should have had them do the service during Covid since they couldn’t perform or leave the Country 🤷🏼‍♀️so yeah I am pretty upset! They have been serving their Country (this is my opinion only my feelings) and the world in so many ways politically, tourism, economy, recognition of the culture, and have paved the way for kpop groups to be recognized. Of course BTS says they will happily serve if called on, but let’s have common sense they don’t want to! They lost 2 years from pandemic now they are gonna lose 2 more. They are afraid they will lose ARMY because they know the newer ARMY are basically Multi we have already seen the newer ARMYs not contribute to the streaming and voting which is how we took them to the top. So yes I personally do not believe this is what they actually want and they have doubts, and anything that stresses BTS upsets me. Bighit should have taken advantage of pandemic and had them do their service but Bighit got greedy and wanted to make money and made poor choices for our men! It's kinda 2 ways feeling i have...i knew this weekend that it was coming but i'm so proud and kinda happy they made the decision by themselfs and not by the government..i think it was a hugh load on their shoulder, they always said that they would do their military service..just what i DON'T BELIEVE IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM BIG HIT IS THAT THEY ARE HAPPY ABOUT TO SERVE THEIR COUNTRY! In their end ment they all said almost the same that they will keep performing and grow old like that..and if you read some articles about the military how idols are treated scares me..my father was a para commando and believe me the army broke him mentally..i know times have changed but the question is if BTS is strong enough for this I don't know..their hardships all the hate they ever received and still have to face has made them stronger as a group but we mustn't forget how they relay on each other and being each other comfort and support to continue..In the military they are not together..they are not 7 and won't be their if anyone has a difficult time.. I'm going to wait for them like all the real ARMYs out there..still i can not help it but i'm feeling very anxious..also a bit alone..and afraid, very afraid, to have to continue without all 7 until 2025..I hope I will succeed without my life support. 😞🥺

I was already in a very bad state (emotionally). One of my dogs died early in the morning. She was very empathetic. She always sensed when I wasn't well and she comforted me in her own way. So I cried a lot. A few hours later, I get a double notification (from twitter and weverse). I knew this would happen one day, but I felt completely overwhelmed. I felt abandoned. I felt empty. It took me several hours to realize that I shouldn't feel like this. The guys asked me to trust them so I'm goint to do just that. I also realized that they have been preparing these since last year (knowing that they have been preparing Proof since the last months of 2021). They made sure that we understood that they would come back and this news wouldn't be too shocking for us. And what especially put me back on my feet were the Armys. It's really a beautiful family that takes care of each other. Armys were present on all social networks to share heartwarming words. And that's when I thought to myself, I don't just have BTS, I also have ARMYs by my side. So everything will be fine. The best is yet to come. I will continue my life as an Army (means streaming, voting, showing my love for them on my social accounts and annoying everyone about how much BTS is amazing). We knew that it was going to happen. I hoped that the Korean Gouvernement would do something to exonerate them. I think that BTS did far more than anyone else for the country and should be recognized for that. But It's a though question and I think that the guys would not accept it anyway. They always said that, when the time comes, they would enlist. They would not take any favor for it. They want to honor their country and do like anybody else. And I'm so proud of them for that. Of course it's sad and a little scary but I trust them and like all the others ARMY, I will be there. I'm not going anywhere. I think that some of them will go together. I can't see V and Jimin going without another. Maybe with JK too. It's not the end and I can't wait to follow them on this journey. The best are yet to come ! <3

When the news were released last night I felt an overwhelming rush of emotions, and yes ofc I felt sad, worried and anxious. Now after some reflection I’m feeling more at peace and definitely very proud of my boys for taking this decision themselves way ahead of the supposedly December deadline showing that they have control of their decisions. I 1000% will forever trust the tannies since they have never given me a reason not to, so I’m not worried one bit that they have control of this situation. In the meantime they said they still have content pre-recorded that will be releasing aside from individual members projects as well before they leave, so I’m not so worried about that. Above all I just know they chose this themselves because they really wanted to serve their country as they said it themselves, so I just pray for their safety and happiness since it’s all I care about. I will forever wait for them. 💜

Hello Jared and Jordan! I started this journey around the same time you guys did. I had already listened to BTS songs since 2017 (Spring Day was my first song, which you have to react to!) but I became an ARMY around the start of this year, when I was dealing with a lot of change in my life and could hardly find comfort or happiness in anything. I feel like as soon as I entered this universe I realized how empty I was feeling before. I found you guys while binge watching content, and I’ve enjoyed every video from you guys. I’ve even been waiting to watch all of The Rise of Bangtan episodes with you guys (please go back to those soon). I feel sad that they will leave us for a while, but at the same time (and maybe you guys feel the same way) I regret that I haven’t been an ARMY for as long as many others have. I feel like just as I found them (and they found me, in a way) they will leave me. In the end I just hope for their happiness and safety, and I’ll trust that more things are yet to come :)

I became their fan in October 2016 which makes it 7 yrs now. I just turned 20; they literally been part of my whole teenage phase. When i was a baby army, i saw other band members going and honestly i have been preparing myself since then 😅. But it was not easy. When they announced abt the chp 2 during festa, lord i cried my eyes out. I am happy for them, they needed this break but i think it okay to be bit sad. I would literally graduate by the time they comeback and i would in med school. That sound crazy to me. It just mixture of sadness, happiness and confusion i am feeling rn. I guess i will survive this drought by watching In the soop, Bon voyage, run bts etc again. I will wait for them for as long as they want. Hoping best for them💜💜💜

Thank you very much for your words of encouragement, you are 100% correct in saying that BTS have always pushed through difficult times and have never let ARMY down. They have always held onto their promise. I was of course sad when I heard the news, but the great thing about BTS is they have always been thoughtful of ARMY's feelings, that is why they have been slowly hinting on this since the FESTA dinner. I'm sure that we all saw this coming, but we just held on to that little hope that maybe they'll get exempted. To be honest, BTS was always ready to serve for their country and that's very admirable of them. I'm even more impress that Jin actually had the approval to delay his enlistment 'til 31st of December but decided not to, it just goes to show how he respects the rules of his country. I also feel a bit sad for Jungkook since he is the youngest, BTS declaring that they will all be back by 2025 means that all of them will eventually enlist by 2023. This means JK at the age of 26 would also have to go, from what I know the latest age allowed for Korean males to enlist is at 28....so JK actually have an option to continue his solo work, expand his popularity, explore his talents and do a lot of awesome things 'til the age of 28 but he also chose not to....he chose to enlist early so that they can all be back together by 2025, he exchanged 2 years of his young age in order to not ruin the perfect comeback of the group. This is a prime example of selflessness. Nevertheless, we ARMY will always be here waiting in our purple ocean inside our galaxy with the key to the Magic Shop inside our hearts. It will be hard and sad, but we will never falter because WE ARE BULLETPROOF 💜

I specially love your way of diving into their contents because it gives me a different perspective which even adds to whatever I thought I knew about the boys before, watching you get into BTS feels like I'm re-living my own experience when I first fell into the rabbit hole. so my two cents of the enlistment... i knew they were going to go through with it. they're too proud to back down from the responsibility. but i do think we have more to see from them individually and as a group! may it be music wise, mentoring wise, or more of as a producer shoud something happen to them that prevents them from full on performing like they do perminantely.

Firstly, you guys’ words are beautiful and could not be more true. As for how I’m feeling…honestly, I woke up this morning to a message from my friend and my cousin and at first I was confused because I hadn’t seen or read the announcement yet. But when I did, I surprisingly wasn’t sad. It’s mostly likely just that it hasn’t hit me yet. I just took the news in and accepted it. I knew it was coming but ofc nothing can prepare anyone for when something you knew was coming actually comes. It hits differently. I think it’s because for one, I’m just proud of them and I truly think they deserve whatever it is they want. They took this decision into their own hands and for that I’m just proud of them and happy for them. They said before that serving is what they wanted to do for their country so I was okay with it. ALL OF THAT BEING SAID, when I actually sit down and process it, it’s going to hurt. When the day comes for Jin to leave, I’ll be a mess. And I think the main thing that makes me a little sad is thinking about how they feel. They’ve been together for ten years and to think that they’ll be going separately and being away from each other is the most heartbreaking of the whole thing for me. I know sometime later down the line, it’ll hit me and I’ll be sad about it but rn just as it was for the Festa, I’m just grateful that I found BTS and Army (or rather they found me) when I did. This is truly a family and community I never knew I needed to be a part of but will cherish for the rest of my life. 💜

Actually, I feel relief while seeing the announcement... Media and some others have used this topic for their own benefit for a long time, they don't care about authenticity and harm to the boys. BTS always chooses to confront problems directly to prove themselves. They never ask for any exceptions both when they were nobodies in the past and when they have such achievements today. Their sense of responsibility made me think from the beginning that they would never accept the military service exemption and here they were just saying, "Hey, we're still the people that you have always known and loved." to show me I was right. It's the declaration for them to stop the rumor and prove themselves to the world again. I have the very confidence I'll be there to the end, they will be my friends throughout my life. Life is long and 3 years are short. The past 6 years spent with them made me become a new person and learn to fight for my own life. Now I'm pursuing my Ph.D. degree in another country away from my comfort zone and looking forward to meeting with BTS as a group again as a new me.

Hi guys, I don't speak English well, but I needed to come here to talk to you. It's so important to share with people who can understand how I feel. Nobody understands that it's a deep connection with bts. They literally saved my life you know? I lost my mother and I lost everything, I was in so much pain I just wanted to die... but one day YouTube recommended Namjoon's song "Always" and there was a line that said One morning, I opened my eyes And wished I was dead and it brought me comfort because there was someone who felt the same as me and I kept that. And there was the moment when I was in so much pain that I actually grabbed a knife and that was the moment, but then out of nowhere spring day rang for me and hugged me and bts hugged me in a way I've never been hugged in my life. And I find healing in them everyday, and I'm so grateful that they exist and I love them so much. I always had the feeling that BTS were the first people to love all versions of me, before myself. Just as we love all of their versions and history. The most precious love. Our love is bulletproof. All my life I will be with them, for real. All those precious memories, pains, tears and joys. They are the most beautiful moment of my life and made me realize that I've really had BTS by my side for years and years. I woke up early today and read the news but the busyness of life did not allow me a moment to pause and even think about it..until I saw your post just now. You're right that all of the boys are known to be resilient in the face of challenges. They never chose an easy way out (you will come to see as you continue this journey). Through all the challenges, they always come out stronger and better, and I think I can speak to all Army that we will continue to stand to support them through it all. I think I saw a comment from another patron that they're not just "another band" or artist we follow for the time being, but for me, I find that they've become a distant comfort, someone I can turn to when needed. I had a mix of emotions but mostly relieved that FINALLY it's been resolved. I'm proud of them. I could only imagine the backlash and bad press that would've been written had they received an exemption. I'm sure they made this decision months ago but was waiting for the right time to announce it. In true Bangtan style, they controlled the narrative and did things in their own way, in their own time, always thinking of ARMY first. I am not South Korean so I cannot comment on the process and military. I understand their motivations and the duty that the members feel that they must fulfil and completely support them. I will be waiting for them and enjoying their vast catalog of music and other content in the meantime - not to mention solo stuff. Look, in the grand scheme of things, it's not really that long to wait - and not atypical for artists. we've just been spoiled with their rate of production. - I'm very sad to be honest... I've only been an ARMY for close to three years and now it feels like I'm already losing them... I know it isn't so, but it feels that way. I do realize that this was the only right decision. They would have gotten a lot of backlash if they had been excempted. But at the same time, I feel like their government used them. For the Busan thing. And that makes me frustrated. In the end though, I'm not a Korean, so I can't really judge any of it. I'm also scared that they might face misstreatment in the military... I've heard what some Idols have been through. Being stalked in the showers and all that : / I honestly hoped that they would go all together so they'd be able to protect each other. Hopefully they'll be protected in some way. - It's really nice of you guys to have posted this, so that helps. I'm also really looking forward to your concert reaction! Mann, when I think about it it’s like their transition was just so smooth, the planning and everything. Remember RM once said “I’ll prove it” and their last album ending chapter 1 was Proof. Like they really did that, they proved everything in the first chapter. As an army from 2016, finding BTS and going through with their journey was the best experience of my life ngl. They gave me so much happiness, laughter, and just endless joy and love it’s crazy. I legit just feel this emotional attachment with them. When I think about them coming back in 2025 as a group it’s going to hit so bad like the nostalgia because by that time we will all be a little older and in different phases of our life like it makes me wanna cry just thinking about it right now. I've only known them for 2,5 years (3 in January) but they've helped me a lot too. I've been battling depression and anxiety since I was 18 and I'm now 31. Sometimes it feels like it'll never end... but then I think of Yoongi and his past struggles and how he managed to get through it all and it does give me a bit of hope. That it is possible to overcome it. BTS' music has gotten me through a really suicidal period as well. Especially with the song 'Not Today'. I listened to it every single morning during that time and then I had enough strength to get through the day. I'm really sad too. I didn't cry this time, but I did at the Festa dinner. I know what you mean with hoping you can handle the news better in the future. It's the same for me. I feel bad that all I can really feel at the moment is sadness. Hey guys😁 thanks for such a considerate and beautiful message.🤗 We Army really appreciate it.💜 I saw this coming.😶 I had a very big and loooong conversation with my mom about this specific topic back in June after the Festa and then 2 days before the concert again.😐 We were talking and I told my mom how disgusting it was that all these people in power are not thinking about the guys at all.😖 They are just concerned about their "investments", as seen by the massive impact the Festa had on their stocks. 😠 I said how ridiculous it was that the SK government and these people in power wanted them to still perform while they were in the military, like their regular schedule was already so grueling to begin with.😦 Now you want them to juggle their usual schedule with military added as well?😧 My mom (who isn't an Army yet😉) said and this in her own words, "I think you can trust them to never let you down. They have never let you down before now. So I'm sure they will make the best decision for them and you. They always think about you(Army) when making these big decisions." So yes I am sad☹️ that we won't see all 7 of them perform together again until 2025, but at the same time I am so proud.😁 I am so proud to be a fan of them.💜😄💜 They have shown everyone their incredible character by making this decision themselves. I was sad at the beginning; however, I am proud of what they're doing for their country. It was a similar feeling like the time my older brother joined the Marines 2 years ago. As this was happening, I couldn't help but go down memory lane and the flashbacks of the past as I was laying in my bed, from the moment I met them 6 years ago until now. I also thought about the future, I will be 22 years old in 2025, and I would have graduated from college at that time as well. What me and my family did when my brother went to boot camp was send him letters every other day. I intend to write them letters as well, even though they may not receive them, I will write down my feeling and concerns on a sheet of paper to comfort myself and to fill the void that I may feel in the future.

What I do know is that now more than ever I am ready to take this journey with you guys. Step by step frame by frame reaction by reaction. I could be very wrong because I've been at work all day, but I don't think I've seen any news on the country making the decision. I haven't seen anything that South Korea has said on a decision. We were informed by Big Hit on this morning through weavers and then all of the articles flooded out. But nothing giving concrete confirmation that the government of South Korea had actually made a decision after all this time. So I'm glad that the guys have stepped out, made the decision, and made us aware that this is what's coming. For me, it makes sense now that we got an anthology album and no world tour. (This coming from an army that is used to at least two albums a year and a world tour) These were decisions they made and put in place because they did not want to start something that they were not going to be able to complete in its entirety or have to say goodbye to us in the middle of any plans. Like always, they are thinking ahead, and thinking of us. As I said in the beginning, being with you guys, every step of the way on your journey is more so important to me now than ever before. I’m looking at this positively. As a fandom we have time to work on ourselves and to take on those projects that we may have been putting aside. To be honest, my feelings when I first heard the news?? HAPPY AND RELIEVED. Relieved because finally there's a certainty about this, and the unnecessary drama, debate, and hate about BTS military is eventually coming to an end. Plus, the fact that this is not even the government's announcement but the boys' own decision, after finishing the most epic free concert in Busan, makes it even more iconic, brave and graceful of them (especially Jin). And I'm happy because it's LEGIT just two years till they come back together?!?!?! I almost couldn't believe my eyes when I read it. I've been a kpop fan since 2009 and I've witnessed a lot of older kpop boybands passing through their military phase. And lemme tell you, other groups usuall get on hiatus for a very long time (5-7 years) because the members serve at completely different time, based on when they're called by the government (usually age 28), OR they will still have group comebacks regularly every year BUT never with complete members since some are serving. I really didn't want this to happen with BTS. I just HATE the idea of comebacks that is not ot7. I would either choose solo projects than an ot6 / ot5 comebacks. That's why when I first heard that our boys are initiating to enlist around the same time with each other (or some members overlapping) so that they will be coming back together so much quicker in 2025 (only 2 years), this is like a dream come true and a blessing for me!! Really!! 2 years is like the time other fandoms would spend to wait for just ONE MEMBER of their fav group serving in military, while we're waiting for A WHOLE GROUP to reunite in just 2 years. BTS consider about us sooo much in every decision they made. They've never broken a single promise. I'm so blessed to be in this family. When I read the news this morning I was at work. All I could do was to keep working with moist eyes trying not to burst into tears. I almost made it through the day, but then I read your message and the tears finally flowed. Thank you so much for immediately thinking of us and letting us know we can count on you. It means so much to all of us. I have read all the comments written so far and I think we can say that we are all feeling the same things, some sadness but also a lot of pride. And I want to tell you what just happened to me. While I was reading the comments I thought I would console myself a little bit by listening to some BTS songs so I opened YT Music and the first song that came up was "Run BTS" and I said "okay let's start with this." Then I was so focused on reading the messages that I didn't check the next song but just let whatever song came next play. And guess what song it was? "NOT TODAY"!!!! As soon as I realized which song it was I stopped reading and the lyrics started running through my head....and then all I could do was smile and feel better. I don't want to give spoilers to Jared and Jordan but I think every Army knows what I'm talking about. They want us to be strong. In my mind I thought "...guys.... will you let me be sad for a while...I don't know maybe 24 hours...???" No, they probably just can't fail to step in when one of us needs.... This is to recognize once again that the BTS are by our side not only in our most dramatic moments but also in our small daily challenges. Maraming salamat! I read a lot on Twitter and many armys expected this already, including me. The fact that they make decisions after considering us is so heartwarming for me. They started in this year's Festa, saying they will do their solo stuff then this Busan's concert, when they talked about trust. I think we are more than ready to hear the announcement, because deep inside all of us, we already knew. And to be honest, it doesn't hurt the way I imagined it to be. If anything, I am beyond proud of the boys who make the initiative to serve their country without waiting for the government's official decision. I'm just a little sad as we won't see them whole for more than two years. I just know that I will miss them, but knowing you will react to their contents gave me some comfort. I'm planning to rewatch all their content, maybe I will rewatch it with you guys. I'm very sad because BTS is the only reason I wake up the next day, Big Hit said they they will spoil us with content like before but I'm still feeling kinda empty . And I'm afraid because S-Korea is still on the edge of war with N-Korea, it's maybe a stupid thought but I'm afraid of what N-Korea could do if BTS goes to the millitary (because BTS is important for their economy). May I brutally speak my mind? There was a bit of news I heard from SK coverage, a government official conclusion that was supposed to determine a new law or fate of BTS before the end of the year. Whether they were alluding to making the choice in November or early December or something else, the SK government was supposed to make a new law regarding their enlistment before Jin’s birthday in December. However, Hybe made the announcement that the MEMBERS made the decision to go through enlistment first. Media coverage was dragging BTS’s name through the mud for months, possibly to force them to make the decision politicians couldn’t. (As no one wanted to touch exemption of a “sacred duty” by any means.) In doing so, the SK government has the collectivism of the military law rebalanced again…but at the cost of 15 billion+ US dollars lost in the coming three years. And so, with this, I do believe BTS got the last laugh out of this situation bc the government isn’t making the decision for them. They are making this decision for themselves. Though the circumstances of this decision feel forced on the guys part, it is their choice in the end. And that’s all I, personally as an ARMY, want for them. If the government makes them back petal bc of the loss of money or face of the country, what’s to stop BTS from continuing their service? I mean, it’s what SK officials pushed so ”silently” for, right? The SK government has played with this issue long enough and, though I’m still a little sad, I’m glad the discussion is finally over. Here’s to the solo works of the members and to the day they reunite as one. I know I will be with them, as all of you will be when that time comes. 💜

I knew this news was eventually coming, just wasn't sure exactly when it will be. There were hints here and there for awhile now but I am glad that the news came from Big Hit and members directly. I'm not going to sugar coat it , I did feel the physical reaction like a pressure on my chest and sadness when I read the news, but I am supporting the members no matter what. I know I will be waiting for them as long as it is necessary and needed. simple as that. There is so much content out there to revisit , rewatch and discover some new I bet, that the time will pass by fast. I can see JK becoming a general and RM resolving the situation with North Korea and all over the world. I will really miss seeing all 7 together. That’s the worst part. I am grateful I got to see them in concert. I am anxious and pessimistic about the future (my personal future and the world, not BTS) so thinking years ahead makes me feel too much. That’s a personal hang up though. I’m proud of them for doing what they think is best and I’ll be ready for them when they come back. 💜 Their music is woven throughout my life and I will continue rewatching old shows for comfort too. I have no doubt they have thoughtfully planned and recorded a lot of content ahead as well. Overall I am still processing but I feel a sense of relief for them that they aren’t keeping this to themselves any longer. Wanted to break down a phrase you might see a lot: 아포방포 apobangpo. -아 (ah as in saw) from 아미 which is ARMY -포 (po as in po’boy) from FOREVER. In Korean, there isn’t an f sound so when English words with f get adopted into Korean the f is pronounced with a p sound ㅍ. -방 (bahng rhymes with long) from 방탄 which BANGTAN -포 again from FOREVER so it’s shorthand for army forever, bangtan forever 💜

The thing is I had a feeling that whenever they announced the break as a group that it would be a while before they come back together. I already had an idea that they would probably return 2024 but still after hearing the news all the emotions came down at once. The main thing is that I will miss them being together so often and making music as seven. But I think this is a good time for everyone (bts and army) to work/focus on things that they've been wanting to work on. Good thing is twitter knows how to keep the mood up and while feeling sad you can't help but laugh at some of the tweets lol. It's been 10 years (more or less) for all of us and it's only the beginning. All in all, we will wait for them and keep supporting them until then and even after that. Just hoping that everyone remains/finds happiness.

Honestly, I feel so proud to be ARMY. I also feel selfishly heartbroken. These young men have so positively impacted my, my mother's, my siblings', my children's and my grandchildren's lives. They truly found me when I was hurting. I know that this decision was their decision (not HYBE's). I feel comfort knowing they are exerting their power of 7. I had the privilege of seeing them perform their first live Permission To Dance concert in LA. They are absolutely the best performers I have seen in my lifetime. I have to say i am yet to be disappointed in BTS .Through the years and especially at Festa and with this enlistment issue they have stayed true to themselves.We all know they are wonderfull, intelligent ,beautifull , loyal and courageous people who spread hope,strength and love to us all.How could they let someone else dictate their lives? How could they shrink from their duty? But at the same time how could they ignore the great influence they have on Army and their country? So they found the best solution as they often do. They have only ever needed us to Trust, Support, Respect and Apreciate them .To be walking together with them and thats what I will be doing no matter what. APOBANGPO 💜 I will miss chapter 1 (they will obviously grow and change during solo work and military service) but thats life/growing up .I will get used to it just like i sometimes miss debut Bangtan or HYYH Bangtan and Wings era Bangtan but love and apreciate the current them.So I guess its bittersweet yet very hopefull.

I feel proud of BTS for taking this decision honestly. For the past years they have gone through so much unnecessary hate for this topic. When in actuality, they kept saying that they will go when duty calls. They never said they don't want to serve but people were just hating them and trolling them for the sake of it. Honestly, the only thing I'm worried about right now is how they're going to cope in the military. The experience in it self can be very taxing and it's even worse for idols. They're not always treated well and there's been so many privacy and harassment issues in the past. I hope their experience can be a positive one. That's the only thing weighing heavy on my mind. The fact that they announced this before the government's final decision on the exemption is a very big statement about how they feel about the whole thing and how they want to be able to move forward on their own terms. It's a power move, very true to who they are and how they have conducted themselves at all times in their careers. They are, once again, writing their own narrative and I couldn't be prouder of them for that. Three years is a life time in K-pop land and many groups have lost relevance due to members enlisting so I can understand where all the anxiety is coming from but I'm not one bit worried about that. This community BTS have built for the past 10 years is one of the strongest, most passionate, determined, powerful things I've ever come across and it transcends K-pop in every measure so my heart is very much at ease. Plus, even though they will definitely all overlap at some point in time (in order for everybody to be out by 2025), they are not all going to enlist at the same time so there will be room for those solo projects they've been working on. It also gives time for all of you, new armies, to catch up on 10 years worth of content and, with that, create new content for ARMY to watch and engage and keep the engine running. Finally, I just want to say that BTS are one of the big loves of my life. Watching Run BTS episodes every night after work got me out of the biggest funk of my life and I will forever be thankful to them for that. There's no scenario that would make me not want to be here for them so I'll be patiently waiting. I would also like to share a goal I want to achieve by the time they're done serving and hopefully inspire others to do the same. As a way of committing to something the same way they're committing their time to the military, I want to learn Korean. I'm a professional translator and if had discovered BTS sooner maybe I could just have chosen Korean in college but I didn't, so the time is now. By the next comeback I won't need subtitles anymore!!!

I really believe that South Korea's economy is going to suffer and the government should have exempted BTS as they have exempted athletes and classical singers and Olympic participants; BTS has contributed more to their Country than all of those others combined. I know that Armys will wait for BTS and never forget them, but all things must change and it's the end of an era that we will not see again. BTS were teenagers when they started and are men now; I would love to see them venture into acting in movies and K-dramas, that would be a wonderful thing.

I am especially worried about Jin; he remarked a few months ago that he's having trouble gaining weight, he is underweight for his height and has not been able to put on weight in spite of trying to eat more calories ! I don't know if his military experience will help that problem or add to it ! If you notice in their last concert, Jin is terribly thin through his legs and hips, he's still WWH though !

I've been a fan since the early days and as much as this "announcement" was a surprise foe others, it wasn't for me. I had a feeling it was coming this year so I welcomed 2022 with a sense of foreboding and told myself to be ready at anytime. It's true that it still surprised me but at the same time, there was a HUGE sigh of relief. I'm so proud that this was a decision made by the boys and the boys alone. They've been getting beaten by the sk gov't since 2018 and they do not deserve that. They do not deserve the proposed alternative service nor the exploitation the sk gov't is offering. Like what Yoongi wrote in his song What Do You Think (from his 2nd AGUST D mixtape), “We'll go serve in the military when the time comes. I hope all those bastards who tried to get a free ride by selling our names shut their mouths up.” Jared and Jordan, I want you to know how UNPRECEDENTED for a group to enlist TOGETHER. I've been a kpop fan for a looooong time and no one has ever done THAT. It's always one member at a time and it takes about 5-7 years for a group to be complete again, if they do not disband during the whole process too. The fact that BTS chose to serve together is something new. But I'm so happy because it's a wish come true for me! It's what I've always wanted for them because even though we won't be seeing them for at least 18 months, at least all of them are together and they'll be back sooner than we think! Apobangpo 💜💜💜 The military enlistment to me is not really a surprise since I feel like they have been hinting at this since late last year, to me, I caught the in between looks they had, they way they spoken from around November on seems like the indicate that they are going to miss us. I don’t know… the feeling I got… so I’ve been dreading hearing this news and been sad for a little while. When the festa dinner came on, it solidified my guess about them going to enlist “anyday”, so when this came on this morning, it does feel a bit relieved… moreover, I thk that they are so honorable that I don’t thk they won’t not serve you know….. we should all be proud of them boys, that they handled this so maturely, calculated and with pride. I’m sure the military is not something that any K men wanted to do voluntarily as I heard even the boot camp is super hard, nonetheless… it is so like them to face this head on, and face the challenge ahead. Just keeping this very short, but I'm a KPOP fan since 2009 and I know for A FACT, that honey, we don't worry about this at all. 🥰 This happens to every idol group, but it must be hard to accept for ARMYs, knowing how much BTS have contributed to the country (29.1 TRILLION won, COME ON!!) and the whole world. For those who don't understand how the military works in Korea, they still have off days to rest, visit their families, message and call them up. I think it’s great. And the sooner they get it over with, the sooner they can get back to continuing their activities with their music. I think also since they can make music about anything, this could create another opportunity for them to get ideas and inspiration from serving to add to their music and artistry. We may never know, they could be a voice to bring more awareness to how it is to serve in the military.

I'm feeling mostly relieved, to be honest. I feel like this has been weighing on them for a long time. The government has been stringing them along and people have been trying to use them on every side. I'm glad they decided to take hold of the narrative and their fate themselves. I do worry a little bit for what the military has in store for them. I've heard ugly stories about what life can be like for idols doing service. I woke to the news around 4:30am. My initial reaction was relief. This topic has been around since 2018. The government has left them on limbo and has taken all the opportunity to milk them for money. I amm beyonddd HAPPY. They said fck that and taking things on there own hands. Busan wanted this concert but they didn't want to even pay for it. Hybe had to put money into this concert without getting anything in return. Even BTS doesnt have any gains, all they wanted was to see ARMYs. I trust them with all of my being, Ive been an ARMY since 2017. They have never let me down and i don't think they ever will. Ill be here waiting, catching up on BTS content ive missed over the years. Saving all my money to see them where ever when they come back to us on 2025. It will definitely be challenging and I am sure they heard from Crush and other family and friends in what to expect. Military life is a challenge and I have no doubt they will all do their best as they always do. Our 7 will be back. I was shocked for a minute when I saw the notice,. I was working. I immediately shutdown everything and went over somewhere quiet to read the article completely. I was heartbroken learning that this was happening….after all they have done for Korea and STILL having to fight for everything…A final decision was to be made around December however I think the guys saw this as a never ending saga they have been dangling exemption in front of them for years and I think the guys said just decided “ it won’t rest until it’s done” so we will clear this obstacle like all the others…on our terms….I know there’s an honor thing to it in their culture but what they have done NOONE else has done to their magnitude and that is honorable as well. This news was an absolute blessing. Seven small boys from Seoul, South Korea just wanted to sing. They had a voice and set out a mission to be that voice of reason for those who couldn’t speak out. They became a bulletproof vest for those who were in pain. The world doubted every single member. Nobody wanted to hear what they had to say but BTS didn’t care. They stood there taking every single bullet to protect millions of people across the world. Seven small boys became the seven strong talented men as we know today. But at the same time i feel more at ease than before because of the amount of assurance that army got from bts that they will be back stringer and better after this. To be honest, I felt a sense of relief when I saw the announcement on Weverse. I had this gut feeling since Festa dinner that Jin will fulfill his military enlistment this year, followed by the others. And I'm proud of the boys for being able to make this decision by themselves and cancel the military postponement. We will still have individual projects to support and tons of unreleased content. Thank you for this post 💜 I was initially saddened by the news but felt very much relieved as I'm sure like me many of us knew this was coming. Knowing them, being true and beautiful humans, want to serve their country. I feel like the Festa dinner and the individual projects were very much planned specifically this way to lighten the hit for us...preparing us for this news. As always, they think about Army and I'm sure this was and is very hard for them. But we trust in their promise to us 😊 They've helped me through many struggles and continue to do so by setting an example of what life and love should be. Love yourself and love others. tbh ive been okay since the anouncement i cried a lot of june 14th i think that helped me prepare more for this. from 2018 when i became a army it was like the unspoken rule "be aware bts will have to do their military service but also dont talk about it cause its a sensitive topic" in a way i kinda wish the fandom wouldve spoken about it more maybe we wouldve been more prepared than now. but from what ive seen majority of armys are doing better than june 14th and are ready to wait for bts. 2019 feels like yesterday and yet it was longer away than bts service would be. im so grateful they stayed with us during the pandemic cause they really helped our mental health but i also kinda wish they wouldve gone during that time cause they wouldve been back by now. but like they said in the festa they shouldnt regret their choices. im sure bts and army will be even stronger by the time they return. i just hope they stay safe and people dont bully them while theyre in there cause ive heard horror stories of other celebrities especially idols who were bullied. i just pray for their safety, their mental and physical well being and that theyre able to get through whatever theyre put through in there.

Hey Jared & Jordan, first of all thank you for being so considerate. I was there, at the Yet To Come in Busan concert. I never saw them live before. For PTD Las Vegas I had tickets but couldn't go, so I didn't wanted to have regrets anymore and I did everything I could to be there this time. Because I knew this was coming, we all kinda saw it coming. I had the time of my life, I will never forget this entire experience. The concert was incredible, it's like I left my soul there. I still can't believe I got to witness songs like Run BTS, Ugh, Cypher pt3, Ma City... I'm still recovering. When I came back home after my 14-hour flight I saw the BTS announcement. It did hurt, and it was a rollercoaster of emotions for me, along with the post concert/travel depression I guess. But I feel very blessed and part of the lucky ARMYs that got to see them. It's mixed feelings since then, I'm feeling down but I'm not sad, I don't know how to explain it. And there's this feeling of emptiness sometimes that comes and go when I think about them enlisting soon. But I honestly feel so proud of them, even until the end they make their own decisions regardless of the government and chose to follow their schedule in their own terms. We do stan really authentic and good artists who stay true to themselves. We all saw it coming but to me it felt a bit abrupt since it was not even 2 days after the concert, but it's also a boss move because the government kinda were waiting for the Busan concert to make a decision (and see BTS' impact, as if they had to prove it) so them announcing it right away means in a way that they are tired of just being toyed with. I respect their choice and it makes me love them even more. They kept reassuring us during Festa dinner and then during the Busan concert that we have to trust them so I felt like they knew something was coming soon. Even if you could feel some melancholy, they kept it together during the whole concert.. they left on a positive note to reassure us ARMYs when they must have felt emotional deep down inside knowing this... but they didn't want it to be a negative or sad moment for us and wanted to enjoy memories together as much a possible. Jin kept it light hearted and positive this whole time, also announcing his new song to us. It has always been between BTS & ARMY at the end of the day. It's totally valid to feel sad and a bit down even if we're proud of them and we know they're not disbanding and will only come back stronger as ever. 2025 is not that far so time will fly, and I'm sure they have so much content and solo projects they will release during that time for us. I trust them. Them and Hybe always plan and think ahead. I'm gonna miss Jin, each one of them and I'm worried about them getting hurt or their mental health being affected during the service... I hope and pray that they will be fine. The future is scary but it'll be a new chapter for us to overcome this together, have new experiences and keep supporting them until the end. I'm not going anywhere. Let's support all of them together and show them the love they showed to us, they kept reassuring us since Festa dinner so now we need to do the same thing for them because they must be scared of the future too. And let's make their comeback in 2025 epic and memorable. I'm still very excited and happy to see your BTS journey too 💜💜

I am just so proud of them. I look back at all the comments they’ve ever said when asked about the military and they have never wavered. They have always said they will serve. Suga had his surgery on his shoulder and he said I needed it done so that I can serve my country. Jin said I will go when my country calls. When the politicians did countrywide polls on the members future - it was so maddening. Can you imagine having people you don’t know being polled to see if they agreed with you getting an exemption that you didn’t ask for? I don’t want to speak for how their home country feels about this, but I will just say as someone admires of their talent and character. I am very proud of them. HYBE is the definition of organizational planning. They have everything planned and know just how to release the individual projects for group. I hope they now look out for themselves equally and do what they need to do to make this military time valuable to SK and provide as much growth for themselves. #TrustBTS Thank you so much for your reactions. I’ve been saddened by the announcement of military service (for totally selfish reasons!), but not entirely surprised. I’m an American child of the 50s and 60s…a time when the military meant fear for me and so many others. Watching these young men talk about their intentions to serve their country has been inspiring to me. I truly wish them well…I have so much respect for them…they have given me a faith that I had lost after the death of my only child at his age 27. At first I wondered if that fact was the reason I was so drawn to them…but I soon began to believe (and I still do believe) that their examples of getting through to the other side of the most difficult times of young people…was not exclusive to young ones at all. They apply for the Silver Army’s who are in our 70’s. I love that the two of you will continue to unfold the BTS ride! Your comments, your care and your respect mean the world to me! Borahae 💜

posting on this late but still wanted to voice my thoughts and feelings. at first i felt a very heavy pit in my stomach and was very very sad. however, after giving it time to sit i realized that they made a boss bitch move and took their futures into their own hands instead of continuing to play games with their government like they have been for years. i’m extremely proud of them for coming to that decision collectively and realizing their worth. there’s still and underlying feeling of sadness, which i don’t think is going to go away until they’re back in 2025, but i’m not overwhelmed with sadness like i was before. twitter is a great place for army right now because the tweets went from being surprised and sad straight to humor and it’s fun to have a laugh and see the bright side of these situations. there’s also MOUNDS of content. i heard that if i start watching 1 run bts episode a week, i’ll be caught up by 2025. and tbh i have only seen a couple run episodes because i’ve been busy and stuff with nursing school and work the last few years (i’ve only been an army since march 2020) that i haven’t been able to watch. there’s also 4 seasons of bon voyage, 2 seasons of in the soop, and 4 documentaries/docu-series that have commentary episodes of the bts members watching them and commenting on them. there’s so much content. plus all the army made videos and things out there. i’m going to miss them immensely, no doubt, but i’m going to look at the bright side that they ARE coming back and we are going to be stronger when they do. army is STILL GROWING. they’ll be back before we know it. hats off to the boys for being strong and pulling the biggest 🖕🏻 moment to the government and all their haters. i love them even more for it. 💜

Hi Jared and Jordan - I just wanted to thank you for giving us all a forum to express our feelings about the mandatory service. You two are truly wonderful human beings and I am so very glad that I am getting travel down the rabbit hole together with you! As a baby ARMY (just a few months older than you two), I am constantly amazed by the sheer talent these seven men possess. But, I am more enthralled by their humility and collective moral compass. We all can now see, in hindsight, that BTS has been preparing ARMY for months about their plans. The Permission to Dance Concerts in LA, Seoul and LV, dropping the Proof Anthology album, the Festa dinner, the Busan Concert and enlistment news were all one long message of both (1) "Trust Us", and (2) let us go "Back to One" (meaning they are going back to the root of who they are). They are men of principle and true scrappers. No one but ARMY has ever given them anything and all ARMY could do was to love them, support them and lift their spirits. Throughout their 10 year career they have been used abused by the Korean music industry for clout and mocked by the western music industry because they would not pay to play. Despite all this, these men are LEGENDS.

Hi guys, wanted to take a few days before commenting about this. Yes, I'm proud of BTS and for them wanting to defend their country. No doubt about that. However my concerns are WHAT happens to them in the military. We know haters and bullies exist, especially in their case, so you want to tell me they are going to be left alone by these characters? Where Hybe and Big Hit cannot protect them? What about the other way round, if there were Army there (the crazier ones) and just curiosity seekers. Will they come out of it the same happy, positive and loving human beings we know? Anything can happen, and of course agendas exist. What if the other K-Pop companies have people in the military at the same time??? I could go on and on and on. Suffice to say, Army's are only looking at it from the perspective of 'we only have to wait 2 years' and then they're back as if nothing had changed. Well I certainly hope that is the case, but WILL that be the case? It seems no one else is taking this into consideration. Looking at the bigger picture here, at 54 I'm not inclined to just shrug things off or just accept things, I know how crazy things can get. Even though I am sad about this, I have hope as J-hope and RM talked about trust between Army and BTS. Two years will fly by and it gives you a chance to make a small dent in all things BTS. The amount of content they have put out since their debut is phenomenal and you have just begun your journey. Surprisingly guys, I’m okay. I went through the sadness and the feeling of being anxious because I didn’t know what was coming when BTS announced their “break.” After JK cleared it up on Vlive and RM on Weverse. I understood that their meaning. Which is why by the time they come back in 2025, I will be fluent in Korean. No more subtitles for me. BTS has been taping together and separately. There is so much content that we have not seen 5hat I don’t think we will miss them. Those years will fly by. I admit that I will miss seeing them together, which is why I will watch the Busan concert over and over again. BTS put together that cue of songs themselves because they felt those are songs that Army wanted to hear. They’ve led me out of one of the darkest periods of my life. When the people around me every day couldn’t or wouldn’t understand me. They were my light in that time of darkness so I have complete trust in them. This period marks extreme growth for them. Let us all grow together.

Thank y'all for such a heartfelt and honest opinion on the "news that rocked ARMY." Immediately upon reading the HYBE statement, I was devastated. That's mainly because of my age - 63 in 2 weeks - and missing my chance to see them live in 2020 due to the pandemic. I'm at the stage in my life where I do worry about how much time I have left (Dad died at 52, Mom at 58). So 3 years for this senior goes by in an instant, but so too do my life years. BTS and Korea are the only items on my bucket list. I don't want to exit this life without getting to realize that list. Now having said that, I have accepted the inevitable and am more proud of our boys than ever. And then the wisdom y'all dispensed made me feel even better. I was expecting this and tbh I felt even during the concert that something was weighing on them. Looking back over the interactions since even last year you can tell this has been in the works for quite some time. I just hope they serve safely and without any invasions to their privacy or any harassment. I've heard so many horror stories that I admit I'm concerned. I'm proud of them for making their own announcement about enlistment vs the gov't deciding for them. My concern is keeping him safe within the Army. There have been stories of other Kpop idols who suffered after enlisting (G-Dragon). All of BTS have been protected for 10 years. Yes, they have been verbally attacked and physically threatened. But they have always had other members and support people with them. Each member will be on his own.
