The manga is slightly different if i remember correctly. Goku wanted vegeta to be spared so that he can fight him again. Watching this brings so many memories

I think after this fight you should definitely watch the first 4 movies because they are all supposed to be before Namek. If you only wanted to do one of them do number 3 the tree of might its terrific. They all are though blows any anime movies now out of the water. AND AGAIN THANKS FOR THIS WATCH

I watch the dub for nostalgic purposes, but sometimes I gotta switch back between the japanese with subs to make sure the dialogue matches. A lot of times they alter it and I think thats why they made kai to match the manga more closer.

You right Brago, about the perspective for sure. Dragonball Super Hero I believe is the one that showed how quick these fights actually go with Trunks killing Freeza in mere seconds as opposed to a whole episode. Someone pointed this out here too but this ending moment is a great example of the changes between this ENG dub and OG. Here Goku is merciful and heroic in his reasonings but it really was just so he could fight Vegeta and test himself further again. He admits as much in th og too. Ultimately it did lead to the best choice though as we know.

Yeah I was annoyed by this portray of Goku and so was Toriyama. Goku made it clear his reasoning for wanting Vegeta to live was because of his own selfish desire to want to fight him again. Not because he’s a hero for justice and wanted to show mercy or anything

It is technically considered namek saga because it was released a week before something happens in the middle of that saga and like vegetas color reveal they animators guessed and were wrong on the look. We’ll discuss after the watch😎.

It's probably been said, but the dub writing changes Goku's character a fair amount like in this episode. In Toriyama's version of the story, Goku wanted Vegeta to live so that they could some day fight each other again. Goku as a character is more flawed in the original writing and puts his desire to fight above other things, which becomes a trait of other saiyan characters later on too. These writing changes are some of the main arguments against the dub.
