Toguro beliefs got them killed Toguro became the monster he couldn’t save his pupils from as penance Toguro didn’t necessarily kill Genkai because she didn’t join him but rather, she was a permanent reminder of the life he failed in, and if he didn’t kill her, it was proof he didn’t have the resolve to walk the path he chose again he hates demons and giving into demonic impulses WAS the punishment. In a sense Yusuke is the child of Toguro and Genkai after meeting him on a whim, he lightly grooms him to become the perfect opponent, but after realizing he was Genkai’s student, he becomes a pseudo father figure putting him on a similar path to see if he’ll become like him thus proving human existence is define by weakness or overcome with strength from understanding time is short and life is a gift. I love this show. The next arc inspired a lot anime excited for it

Koema revived Genkai like he did Yusuke. Toguro made sure the committee didn't corrupt Yusuke wish, and forced him to make a noble wish than the selfish wish.

Personally, I think the next villain’s character is almost as intricate as Toguro’s. YYH was just ahead of its time mann.

Toguru knew what Yusuke's wish would have been if the committee was still alive. It was to bring Genkai back.

Iconic King

Toguro was such an amazing antagonist, he was very self aware and self critical. He always spoke of destiny yet struggled with the things he couldn’t control. His life was a beautiful tragedy, he could’ve had a wonderful life with Genkai but gave it up because he couldn’t get past his fear, anger and all around self loathing. Toguro truly wanted to be proven wrong, deep down he wanted Yusuke to win so that he could finally put an end to his internal strife.
