I spent a few days on making a framework for a system that combines Adventure Games and Visual Novels. I'd like to make smaller chapters of a story available between my bigger project releases. The idea is to make something like a playable comic or manga.

This system is built for fast development. Now that the framework is mostly finished, making little adventures in it is a matter of days. The main time investment will be drawing the art. This is why I'm opting for this black and white style to keep it efficient.

Story:

Soul Traveler Tian is sent to a planet on the brink of destruction, forced into the body of a recently deceased lizard man. His task is to save this world -- by any means necessary. He'll not have to do this alone. Various people and monsters will join his cause. Orcs, dragons, demons and more. And then there's the matter of his host's boyfriend...

You can play the pixel version no itch here: Orcs and Stars (VN System Test) by ragtorstone (runs in most browsers)

Alternatively, a high-res patreon version can be downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1aZCKUeWcIIXI9VFgWo1Dqv3TNBxBU16b?usp=sharing

Please let me know if this is something you'd find interesting.

Ragtor's Games & Art

Thanks for the feedback! It's basically a tech demo showing off my VN framework's capabilities, that's why it's so short. Glad to hear you liked it so far. I made the UI based on feedback (including yours) I got for Demon's Soulbound. Wanted to keep it very simple. Shadowgate for the NES was also an influence. The black and white art style makes it possible for me to draw art quickly and easily. I have an obsession with art like this ever since reading the comic Bone.

Oooo shame I saw this late in the day, I'd have tried it if I was still on my pc. I'll play it tomorrow!

Well I now have played it and I loved it! Love the lore, specially how you can expand from it. Like, this first story might be from this world, but you can keep of wrapping them up and bring Tian to a new world whenever, see all kinds of settings you'd like to add to it, a lot of potential. I would say, making it black and while made it so that I took a bit of time to notice one of the 3 planks, even with the little wavy effects it has. I might be inattentive and this might be only a me problem, but how about a "hint" button that makes a water dripple effect appear on interactables of the scene or something like that?
